The English word "tuning" means "tuning", "adjustment", and chip tuning is a good way to increase engine power and improve vehicle dynamics without any mechanical modifications to the engine, only by changing the parameters of the program that the electronic control unit works on ( ECU) engine.

The ECU has a memory chip that stores this program. It is individual for the power unit of each brand and model of a modern car. By adjusting it, you can adjust the amount of fuel supplied to the cylinders and the ignition timing, control the operation of exhaust gas control systems, and so on.

To perform reprogramming, it is enough to connect the ECU to a computer running a special program. Although full-featured versions of such programs are available only to professionals, their simplified, yet capable of performing all the necessary operations, options are posted for free use on many Internet sites. You can also find new versions of programs for the ECU there.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to directly connect the interface connectors of the ECU and the computer, since the voltage levels of the signals transmitted and received by them differ greatly. An adapter is required, one of the variants of which is the BM9213 set offered by MASTER KIT.

This year's novelty is the ready-made BM9213-USB block. It is produced as a ready-made device and does not require any installation and assembly work. This eliminates many of the problems that a person who buys only a set of parts usually faces.

BM9213-USB pleases with a minimum of connecting wires, it is connected directly to the USB connector of a computer or laptop with a standard USB cable. Convenient and reliable screw clamps are provided for connecting to the adapter the cable going to the ECU connector, to which the K-line (ISO-9141) and L-line (ALDL) interface lines are connected.

An important advantage of this adapter is that it does not need an additional power source. It receives all the necessary voltages from the same connectors through which information is transmitted. The current consumption in the Vbus circuit of the USB connector does not exceed 20 mA.

The adapter is protected from:

• any closure of external circuits (between themselves, on the car body or on the plus of the battery);
• errors made when connecting the ECU circuits to the adapter clamps;
• increased voltage on ECU interface lines;
• overheating.

The appearance of the adapter is shown in fig. 1. Its dimensions are 68x17x10 mm. To protect against accidental damage, a piece of heat-shrinkable tubing is put on the printed circuit board.

The board has two chips. The larger one (DD1 according to the adapter diagram in Fig. 2) is responsible for communicating with the computer via the USB bus. A small eight-pin chip (DA1) converts the K-line and L-line signal levels to those necessary for the operation of the DD1 chip.

The L-line was originally conceived as a unidirectional line. It was assumed that it would only be used to receive information transmitted by the ECU. Later, commands and other information began to be transmitted through it in the opposite direction - from the computer to the ECU. To realize this possibility, two logical inverters on transistors VT1 and VT2 are added to the adapter.

The HL1 LED lights up when the adapter is connected to the computer and receives a voltage of 5 V from it. The HL2 LED signals the transfer of information from the computer to the ECU, and HL3 - in the opposite direction.

Just like the previous model, VM9213-USB passed test tests in car repair shops in Obninsk and Kaluga and proved to be positive in working with VW-Golf, Opel-Vectra, Audi-A3, VAZ-2111 cars. Along with ease of connection, ease of use was also noted. Unlike the previous model, there are no mechanical switches or removable jumpers.

When you connect the adapter to a computer running Windows XP, the device driver is detected and installed automatically. For Windows-98, drivers may need to be found on the Internet. If you receive a "This device has not been tested for Windows" warning during installation, ignore it.

The adapter will be registered in the system as "USB Serial Port". You may need to enter the "LPT and COM Ports" subsection of the Device Manager and change the baud rate on the Port Settings-Bits per second tab for correct operation.

The official website of Future Technology Devices (the manufacturer of the FT232BL chip) contains drivers for other operating systems, including Linux and Mac OS.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Body Ultrasound Stickers 11.08.2022

MIT engineers have developed a tiny sticker that can continuously take ultrasound images of internal organs for 48 hours.

This technology will help create stickers and stickers that can wirelessly track any objects in the body. Typically, ultrasound procedures use a thick, cold gel applied to the skin before inserting the probe. This gel is necessary for a clear transmission of ultrasonic waves from the probe to the internal organs and back.

The authors of the new work came up with innovations, they placed the hydrogel in a thin elastomeric membrane. The result is an ideal elastic material that adheres to the skin and effectively transmits ultrasonic waves.

The elastomer prevents dehydration of the hydrogel, the authors explain. The other part of the device contains an array of hundreds of tiny ultrasonic transducers.

Study co-author Chonghye Wang explained that this combination of a dense array of sensors with an elastic hybrid of elastomer and hydrogel allows the device to work stably.

Using the sticker, the researchers were able to see how the stomach expands and contracts when the volunteer drank a glass of juice. Muscles can also be tracked when a person is lifting weights to inform them of potentially traumatic exercises.

The authors want to use their patches in tandem with a mobile app and AI to automatically track and analyze metrics.
