"Love affair at work"
"Love affair at work"

Phraseologism: There is no bad weather.

Meaning: 1. Life is beautiful in all its manifestations.2. Any weather, different manifestations of the elements have their own attractive sides, you just need to be able to see them and enjoy them.

Origin: Title and first line of a song written by composer Andrey Petrov (1930-2006) based on verses by director, playwright and screenwriter Eldar Ryazanov (1927-2015) for the movie "Office Romance" (1977): "Nature has no bad weather, // Every weather - grace. // Rain, snow at any time of the year // We must gratefully accept.

Random phraseology:

What the hell brought me to this galley!

Meaning:

Regret for his own indiscretion, which put the speaker in a difficult, unpleasant position.

Origin:

The primary source is the comedy Scapin's Tricks (1671) by the French playwright Jean Baptiste Molière (pseudonym of J. B. Poquelin, 1622-1673). In his play, Scapin is trying to lure money from the miser Geronte for his own son under the pretext that his son was allegedly taken hostage by the Turks when he went to their galley. The miser's father feels sorry for both his son and money, therefore, counting out the coins, he repeatedly repeats: "And why the hell did he bring him to this galley!" (act. 2, yavl. 11). These words of Geronte brought to life another popular expression of Moliere: "I take my good where I find it."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Ionistors increased the autonomous mileage of an electric motorcycle 25.12.2019

Nawa has unveiled an electric motorcycle with a hubless rear wheel that significantly outperforms most similar vehicles on a single charge.

The prototype called Racer owes this feature to the use of Nawa's main product - ionistors. The battery with a capacity of 9 kWh is supplemented with ionistors with a capacity of 0,1 kWh. Their addition made it possible to recover 80-90% of the braking energy - much more than can be obtained in the case of lithium-ion batteries. The following data allow us to evaluate the gain: the same motorcycle with ionistors can travel 300 km without recharging from the network, and 180 km with the same battery, but without ionistors.

In the silver block, which is visible in the photo, the upper part is reserved for the ionistors, and the lower part is for the batteries. Since supercapacitors are made of carbon, they are relatively inexpensive and weigh only 10 kg, but adding them is equivalent to increasing battery capacity by 65%. To get the same increase in the usual way, the battery would have to be made much larger and heavier.

For obvious reasons, the technology is most effective in urban environments where acceleration and deceleration are constantly alternating. As for acceleration, the Nawa Racer accelerates to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.

The prototype will be shown at CES 2020. It itself is not intended for commercialization, but the technology used in it is. Serial production of Nawa ionistors is planned to begin in 2020.
