Unlike traditional controllers that change the frequency response of the amplifying path at lower and higher frequencies, the parametric controller allows you to shift the frequency response of the frequency response in a fairly wide range. In terms of functionality, such a tone control approaches a multi-band one, but is much simpler than it.

Parametric tone control

The main parameters:

  • Rated input voltage, mV.......220
  • Output voltage, V rated ....... 1
  • maximum......7
  • Harmonic coefficient, %, no more.......0,07
  • Relative noise level, dB, no more.......-80
  • Tone control limits, dB.......±10
  • Frequency response bending frequency tuning range, Hz, in the frequency range: lower.......60...700
  • higher ....... 1 000 ... 8 000

The device consists of an AF amplifier made on two op amps of the A1 chip, an infra-low frequency filter R2C1 and two two-terminal devices with a frequency-dependent input impedance, each of which is made on a transistor (V1, V2) and one of the op amps of the A2 chip.

A high-pass filter (HPF) C5R11R12 is connected between the cascades of the first two-terminal network, and a low-pass filter (LPF) C8R17R19 is connected to the second. The cutoff frequencies of these filters can be smoothly changed by variable resistors R11 and R17.

The two-terminal inputs are connected to the engines of variable resistors R3 and R4, which perform the functions of the actual tone controls, respectively, at lower and higher frequencies. As a result, the amplification of the cascade at the op-amp A1.1, in the OOS circuit of which the resistors R3, R4 are included, depends not only on the position of the sliders of these resistors, but also on the frequency. When the sliders are set to the extreme left (according to the scheme), the frequency response at lower and higher frequencies has a maximum rise, to the extreme right - the maximum decline, in the middle position of the sliders the frequency response of the amplifier is horizontal. The frequencies from which the decline or rise in the frequency response begins are changed by variable resistors R11 and R17; a decrease in their resistances leads to a frequency shift to the higher frequency region, an increase to the lower frequency region.

To reduce interference with a frequency below 20 Hz, an infra-low frequency filter R1C2 is connected to the input of the bass amplifier (switch S1).

Any other op amp can be used in the device with appropriate frequency response correction circuits and supply voltage. Variable resistors R3, R4, R11, R17 - SPZ-ZZg or SPZ-ZZd.

Establishing the regulator comes down to setting the trimmer resistor R6 to the nominal output voltage (1 V) when a voltage of 220 mV with a frequency of 1 kHz is applied to the input (the sliders of the resistors R3, R4, R11, R17 should be in the middle position).

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor 15.11.2022

Qualcomm has introduced a new high-quality second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chip. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a commitment to image processing, high efficiency and maximum performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is manufactured on a 4nm process and is an octa-core processor with three clearly differentiated cluster groups (1+3+4).

The first consists of a main core running at a maximum frequency of 3,2 GHz. The second one is a cluster of three cores with a maximum frequency of 2,8 GHz, and finally we have a cluster of cores designed for efficiency, with four cores with a maximum frequency of 2,0 GHz.

Qualcomm promises that this processor is up to 60% more efficient than a watt, which is one of the main problems faced by the previous generation. The peak performance they achieved was great, but consumption was erratic over time and they had to lower performance to keep from overheating. With this 2nd generation, you can forget about problems, at least on paper. In addition to being more efficient, the company promises a 35% faster processor and 40% overall power savings compared to the previous generation.

As for the GPU, the new Adreno saves 45% power and is 25% faster. In this generation, compatible games will be able to enjoy real-time ray tracing, which promises to improve reflections, shadow detail, and overall realism.

In addition, it is the first Snapdragon to include the AV1 codec by even playing 8K HDR video at 60fps. Qualcomm is also proud of its first "cognitive ISP". This part of the processor is responsible for real-time image segmentation processing. It's similar to what Google did in 2017 with the Pixel 2: separating different parts of the scene using semantic categories to better process the final image.

Connectivity is enhanced with WiFi 7 compatibility and increased latency, promising greater efficiency with the new FastConnect 7800 modem, capable of speeds up to 5,8Gbps Wi-Fi. The first mobile phones with this processor are expected to appear in late 2022 and early 2023.
