This article may be useful for those who want to experiment or those who cannot accommodate a full-sized antenna.

In my daily work on the air, I use a small-sized antenna. It is a frame with a perimeter of 4,7 m, made of copper wire (see picture).

Experience in operating a handheld small-sized antenna

At the voltage antinode point, the antenna is electrically extended using a variable capacitor (this method of electrically extending the antenna allows you to increase the efficiency more than other methods). Power was supplied to the antenna from the middle of the vertical side with a RK-50 cable (RK-75 was also tested, the antenna works no worse than with a 50 Ohm cable) through a simple balancing device. Several turns of the cable are wound on the ferrite ring of the magnetic core, near the place where the cable is connected to the antenna.

On my radio, this antenna is located on the inside of the window frame. It is attached to the frame with tape. The window frame with the antenna is located on the fourth floor of a five-story building, the window faces northeast, the house is reinforced concrete panel. I worked with this antenna with a power of 30 watts on the 14 MHz band, 10 watts on the 21 and 28 MHz bands. At the G36, in a short period of time, he had contacts with 50 countries: the CIS, Europe, Asia, Canada and the USA. QSOs were CW - 40%, SSB - 30% and some RTTY and SSTV contacts. Asia responded well in CW, about 1 contacts were made with JA From DX - R9MVI, 2M4, YB, XNUMXS.

It is desirable to use the KPI with a large gap between the plates, since it is located at the antinode point of the voltage (I used the KPI from a household tube radio with a capacity of 12/495 pF). To the full physical length of the frame web, the length of the conductors connecting the frame to the KPI is added. In my antenna, these conductors are half the length of the vertical side of the frame, and they are made of a two-wire "noodle" line. Antenna tuning is carried out by changing the capacitance of the KPI according to the minimum SWR, as well as by selecting the length of the conductors from the frame to the KPI.

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Controlling objects using air currents 04.05.2024

The development of robotics continues to open up new prospects for us in the field of automation and control of various objects. Recently, Finnish scientists presented an innovative approach to controlling humanoid robots using air currents. This method promises to revolutionize the way objects are manipulated and open new horizons in the field of robotics. The idea of controlling objects using air currents is not new, but until recently, implementing such concepts remained a challenge. Finnish researchers have developed an innovative method that allows robots to manipulate objects using special air jets as "air fingers". The air flow control algorithm, developed by a team of specialists, is based on a thorough study of the movement of objects in the air flow. The air jet control system, carried out using special motors, allows you to direct objects without resorting to physical ... >>

Purebred dogs get sick no more often than purebred dogs 03.05.2024

Caring for the health of our pets is an important aspect of the life of every dog owner. However, there is a common assumption that purebred dogs are more susceptible to diseases compared to mixed dogs. New research led by researchers at the Texas School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences brings new perspective to this question. A study conducted by the Dog Aging Project (DAP) of more than 27 companion dogs found that purebred and mixed dogs were generally equally likely to experience various diseases. Although some breeds may be more susceptible to certain diseases, the overall diagnosis rate is virtually the same between both groups. The Dog Aging Project's chief veterinarian, Dr. Keith Creevy, notes that there are several well-known diseases that are more common in certain breeds of dogs, which supports the notion that purebred dogs are more susceptible to disease. ... >>

Intel Core Skylake Processors 06.05.2014

At the end of this year, Intel is expected to launch a new generation of processors codenamed Broadwell, which will replace Haswell products. Broadwell will use 14nm technology and Tri-Gate 2015D transistor technology. In XNUMX, Broadwell chips will give way to Skylake generation solutions, information about which was available to network sources.

Like its predecessors, Core Skylake processors will be manufactured according to 14-nanometer standards. The new generation chips will receive a significantly improved graphics controller. The platform will also provide support for DDR4 RAM, which differs from previous implementations in higher frequency response and lower voltage. The bandwidth of DDR4 reaches 34,1 GB / s.

Skylake reportedly has four variants. SLK-S products in the form of LGA solutions will find application in desktop computers. For ultrabooks, Intel will release low-power SLK-U processors in BGA packages. For compact desktops and all-in-one computers, SLK-Y BGA solutions will be designed, and SLK-H for standard laptops.

The new processors will require motherboards based on Intel 100-Series chipsets. Four types of wireless connectivity are mentioned: Snowfield Peak with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, Douglas Peak with WiGig and Bluetooth support, Pine Peak for WiGig networks, and XMM726x for 4G LTE networks.

Earlier it was also reported that the Skylake platform will provide the ability to use the SATA Express interface with a bandwidth of up to 16 Gb / s versus 6 Gb / s for SATA 3.0.
