A worldwide ban on the extermination of whales was introduced in 1986, after baleen hunters brought an already small population of these mammals to the brink of extinction. But Norway and Japan, simply put, ignored this ban, and, for example, last year the number of whales killed by fishermen in these countries reached 1. NETCITY

Depending on the vintage, wines are divided into different categories: simple, average, good, great and exceptional.

A rare astronomical phenomenon - the Parade of Planets - can be observed these days in the western hemisphere of the Earth. Until mid-May, earthlings are able to see with the naked eye in one part of the sky at once five planets lined up in one line - Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn and Venus. The last time the Parade of the Planets was seen without special instruments was in 1940. According to astronomers, the next time a similar phenomenon will be observed only in 2040.

Parades of the planets traditionally cause the revival of astrologers. Foretellers love to prophesy some kind of upheaval or even the next end of the world. As the radio station Ekho Moskvy notes, the Parade of the Planets, which was observed in 1954 BC, frightened the rulers of the Chinese empire so much that they reset their calendar to zero and began to count again. Genocide - (from the Greek genos - clan, tribe and lat. caedo - I kill), the destruction (full or partial) of population groups for racial, national or religious reasons; one of the heaviest crimes against humanity. The term Genocide was first used by the Polish lawyer Rafael Lemkin in 1944 to denote the monstrous policy and practice of the total extermination of the Jewish people by the German Nazis. In 1945, the word Genocide was adopted by the Nuremberg Tribunal as a terminological designation for this criminal act of Nazism. Manifestations of the Genocide have taken place in the history of mankind before (for example, the massacres of Armenians in Turkey in 1895-1896 and 1915-1916), but none of them reached such proportions as the organized and systematic extermination of the Jewish population by the Nazis in the territories of the countries they occupied Europe. Cognac is a strong alcoholic drink made from cognac spirit, which is obtained by distillation of dry white wine and then aged in oak barrels or tanks loaded with oak staves. Cognac alcohol has a strength of 60-70% vol. In the manufacture of cognac, cognac alcohol is diluted with distilled or softened water, to a strength, most often, 40-45%, adding some small additives, depending on the brand of cognac. The resulting cognac, in turn, is subjected to aging (the so-called rest) in oak containers for a period of 3 to 12 months, after which it is bottled. Information taken from Lev Miroshnichenko's Encyclopedia of Alcohol.

Billiard tables are different, namely: 7-; 8-; 8,5-; 9-; 10- and 12-foot. If we talk about the American pool, then the factors that need to be considered are the length of the cue. Let's say if the table is 7 feet long and the cue is 145 cm long, the area of the room must be at least 19 m2. With the same table, but with a cue of 132 cm, the required area is 17 m2; if the length of the cue is 122 cm, then the billiard room will need 15 m2. Room dimensions required for billiard tables. In the case of the Russian pyramid, for one 7-foot table (with dimensions of 99x198 cm) it will be necessary to allocate a place of 19 m2, for an 8-foot (112x224 cm) - 21m2. Further, of course, in ascending order: for a table model of 8,5 feet (117x234 cm) - 22 m2, for a 9-foot (127x254 cm) -28 m2, for a 10-foot (142x284 cm) - 30 m2 and for 12 -foot (173x346 cm) - 30 m2. At the same time, it is important to remember that it is necessary to correctly calculate the distance between the tables: at least 50 cm must be added to the length of the cue and the field area

Chapaev

In the film of the Vasiliev brothers, by which we mainly judge Chapaev, very little is true.

Let's start with the fact that the film was created with the direct participation of Stalin. At first, the Vasilievs filmed parts of the film, where Chapaev's commanders were played by real people who fought along with Chapaev. But Stalin did not like it. On his instructions, to awaken upbringing and patriotism, four main characters were introduced into the script: Commissar Furmanov, commander Chapaev, one ordinary soldier Petka and the heroine Anka to show the role of a woman in the civil war.

Of course, the image of Furmanov in the film is idealized, but it could not be otherwise - after all, the commissioner. But the real Furmanov's quarrels with Chapaev were not because of ideology, but because of more prosaic things. For example, Furmanov brought his wife to the front with him. Chapaev demanded that she be sent away so as not to set an example for the wives of other commanders. Furmanov refused. Then they both sent telegrams to Frunze that they would no longer work with each other. In the end, the women's issue was dealt with by a commission headed by Kuibyshev, which decided to recall Furmanov and punish her.

As for Petka, Pyotr Isaev was not Chapaev's orderly. He was a regimental commander, then a regimental commissar, and then an officer for special assignments.

Anka is a fictional character. True, Maria Andreevna Popova, who served as the prototype for Anka, was in the Chapaev division. But she was not a machine gunner, but a nurse and an ammunition carrier. Chapaev's daughter Claudia Vasilievna testified that she was called Anka because Anna Nikitichna Furmanov's wife was the film's consultant (the one who was the reason Furmanov was recalled from the division).

As for Vasily Ivanovich, although he was quick-tempered, but, according to the testimony of his daughter, he did not break stools, if only because when he was a carpenter he made them himself.

Also in one of her interviews, Claudia Vasilievna Chapaeva debunks the myth that Vasily Ivanovich drowned in the Ural River. In fact, several fighters ferried the seriously wounded Chapaev across the river on a raft and already on the other side they saw that the legendary commander was dead. In the same place, on the bank of the river, they dug a grave with their hands and buried Chapaev, after which this place was leveled and covered with branches so that the whites could not find him. Subsequently, the Urals changed course, and now Chapaev's grave is at the bottom of the river.

Few people know that Chapaev commanded not a cavalry division at all, but a rifle one.

In our view, Chapaev is always ahead on a dashing horse, brandishing a saber. In reality, everything was somewhat different. Having a good attitude towards horses, Chapaev nevertheless preferred iron horses. At first, he had a bright red Stever car, confiscated in favor of the revolution from some Russian capitalist, then a Packard abandoned by Kolchak, then a Ford, speeding up to 50 km / h, which at that time was not bad at all. Motorcycle communication was also used in his division.

Experts believe that in no case should mushrooms be cut with a sharp knife, leaving a piece of the leg in the ground. The part of the leg left in the ground and connected with the mycelium is open to all types of fungal enemies, and, above all, to bacteria. Therefore, it is best not to cut the mushrooms and not even pull them out, but carefully twist them out of the ground.

Seismosaurus claims to be the largest dinosaur - a monster that reached a length of 40 meters (it could put its head on the roof of a 5-story building). Seismosaurs - their remains were found in 1979 near the city of Albuquerque (New Mexico, USA) - lived in the Jurassic period, i.e. about 135 million years ago. It is not by chance that paleontologists gave them such a sonorous name - the earth-shaking lizard - from the Greek seismos - an earthquake. Indeed, when the 80-ton reptile walked about its business, the soil shook.

When marriage through kidnapping was fashionable, the newlyweds had to hide until the bride's parents stopped looking. In the north of Europe, a young couple, hiding for the prescribed month, drank honey wine among other amusements. Hence the name honeymoon and the tradition to go somewhere for the honeymoon.

James Cook, the son of a farmhand, the only non-gentleman among the officers of Her Majesty's Navy, was elected a member of the Royal Society not for his geographical discoveries, but for an article on measures to preserve the health of sailors. Cook's secret was simple - instead of the traditional corned beef and biscuits, he tried to feed the sailors with fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, introduced sauerkraut into the mandatory diet.

World crime statistics say that the highest probability of falling at the hands of a killer exists in the Bahamas: an average of 500 people are killed there a year with a population of 270 thousand people. In second place in terms of murders are the Philippines, on the territory of which there are 300 murders per year per 1 million people. This is followed by Guatemala (280 murders per year per 1 million people). In the US, 100 people per year per 1 million people die.

The largest iceberg was seen in Antarctica in 1956 - 350 kilometers long and 40 kilometers wide. Considering that about 90% of the iceberg is under water, it is easy to calculate that this icy mountain had as much fresh water as the Volga gives to the Caspian Sea in 7 years.

A person who has read and understood the ABC Message masters not only the universal method of storing information, but also acquires the ability to transfer the accumulated knowledge - i.e. becomes a teacher. To transfer literacy, it is enough to choose a suitable set of signs that display the initial sounds of the words of the Message ... The totality of all the meanings of the letters of the ABC makes up the alphabetic Message:

University of Texas psychology professor James Pennebaker and University of Pennsylvania graduate student Shannon Whitsley Stirman compared 156 poems written by nine poets who committed suicide with 135 poems written by nine poets who did not commit suicide. It turned out that poets who committed suicide more often than others use forms of the first person pronoun, but the singular - I, me, me, and much less often than poets without suicidal tendencies, they use the first person plural pronouns - that is, the words we, us and so on. The sweet smell of vanillin is familiar to everyone. After all, vanillin is one of the most common aromatic additives. It is added not only to sweets, but also to some very fashionable perfumes. However, the smell is the common property of vanilla and vanillin, and therefore they are often confused. True, vanillin, unlike vanilla, is obtained artificially. For the first time, this white crystalline powder was synthesized in the 20th century, when the chemical composition of glucovanillin was established - this is how chemists called the odorous substance that creates the characteristic vanilla flavor. For a long time, the recipe for vanillin was kept secret, but now it is produced everywhere. For the synthesis of vanillin, clove oil, wood, and beech tar are also suitable. Vanillin is much cheaper than real vanilla, and you can get it much faster and easier than overseas spice. A whole kilogram of expensive vanilla is successfully replaced by only XNUMX grams of vanillin. Real vanilla is quite rare and is worth almost its weight in gold. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

As in any religion, Judaism has commandments that help achieve holiness. But if the commandment does not lead to holiness, then, apparently, being guided by common sense, it is necessary to overestimate it. For example, a person bearing the surname Kogan (priest) forbids marrying a divorced woman, so as not to defile the hands of priests - temple servants. But the Temple has already been gone for several centuries, and Kogan is not necessarily a descendant of its servants, and the function of marriage has undergone significant changes over the centuries. The most ancient of the Easter ritual dishes is Easter cake. In memory of the fact that Jesus Christ, coming to the disciples after the Resurrection, Himself ate food with them, the apostles did not sit down at the middle place at the table during the meal, leaving a piece of bread in front of him, as if the Lord Himself was invisibly present among them. Subsequently, a custom developed on the feast of the Resurrection of Christ to leave bread in the temple. In Greek, it is called artos.

About Easter with recipes for Easter dishes

The main dish of the Easter table is Easter - cottage cheese with cream or sour cream, pressed in the form of a truncated pyramid. In Church Slavonic it is called thickened milk. On the sides of it is a cross and the letters ХВ, which means Christ is Risen. Easter is a symbol of the Holy Sepulcher. It replaces the Old Testament Passover lamb on the festive table and reminds us that the time of the Old Testament sacrifices has passed.

In the old days, on Easter and other patronal holidays, women, like Easter cakes, were baked in almost every home. The manufacture of these products is quite laborious, but if all the instructions are followed, the baking turns out to be especially light, with an airy porous crumb and a delicate taste. Therefore, it is no coincidence that in the culinary world they have earned themselves well-deserved fame and affectionate names: tulle, lace, delicate, satin, muslin, downy.
