Here are the recipes ornamental masses from casein.

1st recipe:

Place 300 g of cottage cheese in an enamel pan, add 8 cm3 of caustic soda with a strength of 40 ° Be and slightly heat it with stirring until the cottage cheese turns into a homogeneous sticky mass. Then add 30 g of sulfur color, 25 g of liquid glass and from 15 to 20 g of zinc white. Zinc white is first mixed in a small amount of water to avoid the formation of lumps. The thickened homogeneous mass is slightly cooled and poured into molds greased with some kind of fat.

2st recipe:

For the manufacture of moldable plastics, casein is used, freshly precipitated and freed from excess water, various impurities and fat. This is achieved by washing the casein in water heated to the boiling point. The washed casein is ground into a viscous sticky mass. The casein mass obtained in this way can be mixed with coloring agents or various fillers, such as: ground bone, porcelain powder, etc. In addition to fillers, 5% of lime should be taken by weight of casein. As cheaper fillers, chalk, magnesia, zinc oxide, etc. can be taken. The material obtained in this way can be pressed into molds.

3st recipe:

A horn-like elastic mass can be obtained by applying approximately:

Water 200 wt. hours;
Casein 100 wt. hours;
Caustic potash 5-10 wt. hours;
Sulfur 10-30 wt. h.

Dry casein is dissolved in diluted potash liquor and sulfur is added under moderate heating in an amount at least equal to the amount of alkali used.

Casein, caustic potash and sulfur dissolve into a clear liquid, which is first thickened by boiling to a thick syrup, and then cast into sheets or molds. You can also add various substances to the thick mass that promote drying and hardening. To give greater hardness, lead oxide hydrate, zinc oxide hydrate, potassium or sodium silicate (liquid glass), etc. are used.

Wood chips, cork, sand and emery are used to increase the drying capacity and as fillers. The elasticity increases with the increase in the amount of added sulfur.
