Casein polish base liquid is a solution of casein in ammonia. Such a solution is best prepared by dissolving 100-200% casein in 1 liter of ordinary strength ammonia. This solution, after several days of standing in a well stoppered bottle, which must be shaken frequently, yields a clear liquid which, when applied to wood, glass, etc., forms a colourless, lustrous, fairly weather-resistant lacquer layer.

By mixing the polishing liquid with finely divided colorants, a paint is obtained that can be applied to wood like glue paint. Polishing liquid when applied to wood very effectively reveals the veins of the treated wood. In addition, the resulting surface becomes smooth and clean. This polish is especially successfully used to harden the surface of soft wood species, such as: spruce, pine, linden, fir, etc.

To prepare a primer for polish, add to 6 wt. hours of casein 1 wt. hours of freshly slaked lime. The mixture is well triturated and kneaded with water into a liquid. A small amount of ether can be added to preserve this liquid.

The primer prepared in this way can be directly applied to light woods, like oak, etc. For dark woods, like walnut, mahogany, ebony, a small amount of mordant is added to the primer, which is used to give one color or another to the wood. The primer is applied as follows: the primer is rubbed with a woolen cloth into the surface of the wood prepared for polishing, after 10-15 minutes the surface is polished with thin glass paper, after which the wood is ready for polishing.

When applying the primer made according to the indicated recipe, it hardly takes a quarter of the time that is usually spent with the old methods of working with pumice and oils, since the pores and depressions in the wood are completely filled with the primer and only one polishing is required, while with the old methods two and triple polishing. In addition, the polished surface obtained with this method is much more beautiful and insensitive to water.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Cooling system Deepcool Gammaxx 400 EX 04.05.2020

The Deepcool range has been replenished with the Gammaxx 400 EX cooling system. This is the development of the Gammaxx 400 model, released in 2012. The new version is characterized by increased performance, provided, in particular, by the presence of two fans instead of one, and an increase in the total area and number of radiator fins.

The number of plates has been increased from 50 to 56. The plates are strung on four heat pipes with a diameter of 6 mm, which are designed for direct contact with the processor cover. The dimensions of the radiator are 127 x 50 x 155 mm.

The radiator is blown by two 120 mm TF120 fans, the rotation speed of which is adjustable between 500-1500 rpm. At the same time, the flow reaches 88,3 m3/h, and the noise level does not exceed 27,6 dBA. The fans use hydrodynamic bearings.

Dimensions of the cooling system assembly are 129 x 103 x 157,5 mm, weight - 930 g. The system is suitable for Intel processors LGA1151, 1150, 1155, 1366 and AMD processors AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, FM2+ , FM2 and FM1, and its estimated price is $39.
