way absorption the finest essential oils are extracted, intolerant of even that slight heating that is necessary during maceration. This method is based on the volatility of essential oils and on the ability of fats to absorb vapors of essential oils at ordinary temperatures. The so-called frame method or pneumatic air method is used.

According to the first method, fat (purified lard) is applied in a layer of about 3-5 mm thick on glass, 1 m long and 60 cm wide. Glass is inserted into frames and sprinkled with flowers. Frames are placed one above the other and left for 1-3 days. The wilted flowers are then replaced with new ones. Repeat this for a month until the lipstick acquires the scent of the desired intensity.

If it is necessary to impregnate with essential oil not fat, but some kind of oil, then not glass sheets are inserted into the frames, but metal sieves. A piece of cotton soaked in oil is placed on this sieve and covered with a layer of flowers. In this case, the so-called perfume or fragrant oil is obtained.

In general, this method is troublesome and time consuming. The air enclosed between the frames is almost motionless, and therefore the transfer of essential oil from flowers to fat, despite the close distance, is slow. In addition, the product is clogged with small flower particles, watery juice and other impurities. A cleaner product is obtained by the pneumatic method.

A number of glass plates are inserted into a hermetically sealed box, covered with lard, turned into thin threads by extrusion. This box is connected to a second box filled with fresh flowers and provided with holes at the bottom. The upper parts of the box are connected to a fan that draws air through both boxes and is driven by an electric motor or clockwork. The air, passing through the boxes, is first enriched with the aroma of flowers, and then gives it to fat.

Absorption is fast, requires little labor, flowers do not come into contact with fat at all, which absorbs only fragrant substances from the air.

This method can be carried out in a slightly modified form in the Pivert apparatus. This device has the form of a cabinet, divided into two compartments, which communicate only from below. Both compartments are fitted with glass or tinned copper plates. On these plates are placed alternately on some flowers, and fat on others.

With the help of bellows mounted on top of the cabinet, a light flow of air from one compartment to another and back is constantly maintained.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Toshiba water cooled laptop 21.07.2000

Toshiba recently introduced the new Portege 3440CT laptop, which is just 1,9 cm thick and weighs 1,54 kg.

For the first time, the PC is equipped with a processor water cooling system and comes with an additional lithium-ion battery, which allows you to increase the operating time without recharging up to 9 hours (the main battery life is 2,5 hours). The system is a "super-cooling heat pipe" that connects directly to the processor. This cooling system uses low-pressure water vapor to remove heat from the processor.

The notebook has a low-voltage Pentium 111/500 MHz mobile processor, 11,3-inch TFT LCD, 100 MB PC64 SDRAM and S3 Savage IX graphics accelerator.
