For bonding drive beltsused in factories, here are three tried-and-tested recipes:

1st recipe:

Take equal parts of fish and wood glue and soak them in water for 10 hours; then the swollen glue is transferred to clean water and boiled until a completely homogeneous thick mass is obtained. The glue prepared in this way is applied hot to the parts of the belts to be glued, the surfaces of which are first made slightly rough.

2st recipe:

Soak 10 parts of gelatin in water; when it swells, drain off excess water and heat it in hot water. Then add, stirring thoroughly, 1 part glycerin, 2 parts turpentine and 1 part boiled linseed oil and dilute with water as needed. Lightly heat the cut and cleaned ends of the belts, grease them with warm glue, connect them and leave them for a day under strong pressure. After this, the belt can be put back into use.

3st recipe:

The following composition is also considered very good: 10 parts of wood glue are dissolved in 15 parts of water with gentle heating, and low heat is maintained until the dissolved glue evaporates to a thick syrup; then 1 part of turpentine and 1/20 part of carbolic acid are added to the warm mass. The whole mixture is thoroughly stirred and poured into a flat tin vessel, where it is allowed to cool, after which it is cut into pieces and dried in air. Before use, the required amount of prepared solid glue is dissolved in vinegar to a syrupy consistency, applied to the surfaces of the belts to be glued and the parts to be glued are clamped with iron plates preheated to 30 °C.

These compounds are very good for gluing broken drive and other belts, as well as for fixing various leather products.

The drive belts used in machines must be lubricated from time to time so that they do not wear out so quickly. Of the various ointments recommended for this purpose, the best is considered to be an ointment made from 10 parts of lard, 5 parts of blubber and 2 parts of tree resin. These substances dissolve over low heat and mix into a homogeneous mass, which is used like any ointment. Its effect is so long-lasting that it is enough to lubricate the belts once every three months to keep them in good condition for a long time.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Foldable UV Sterilizer 30.11.2020

Electronics and accessories manufacturer Moshi has launched an original Kickstarter campaign in the spirit of our time. The company has developed a foldable UV sterilizer that can be carried around and used to disinfect small items.

The device is slightly smaller than an A4 sheet and, when folded, has a thickness of only 2 cm. To prepare the sterilizer for work, you need to unfold it and connect it to the network via USB-C. Any smartphone, glasses, pens and similar trifles will fit inside. Moreover, it is enough just to put objects in the "box" - the design is made in such a way that UV-C also falls on the lower surface. A complete disinfection cycle takes 4 minutes and does not require any user participation.

LEDs were used as a light source. They should be enough for at least 10 years of work. Inside the case there is a UV indicator that reacts to radiation - it can be used to judge what "portion" of light the objects inside received. In two weeks, the project has already collected a much larger amount than was necessary for the launch.
