Bone etching with aniline dyes easier than other methods, since it is carried out in a cold bath, which eliminates the possibility of cracking of objects. Etching is carried out as follows: objects are placed in a basin and so much water is poured in that they are completely covered with it. Then 2 teaspoons of vinegar and about 1 g of paint are added to the liquid, and it doesn’t matter whether the latter is soluble in alcohol or water.

For the desired shades, select suitable aniline dyes or combine them from several. Bone objects are left in the liquid for 4-8 hours and removed immediately when the desired tone density is achieved. Then they are washed with water, dried and polished with Vienna lime and soap. Alcohol varnishes and polishes should not be used here, as they can dissolve the paint on the surface of the bone.

If you need to paint an ivory billiard ball in two colors in parallel stripes, then, already polished, it is clamped between three thin sticks inserted vertically into a small board, the middle strip is covered with oil varnish and first one segment is painted, immersing the ball together with the board into the appropriate aniline mordant. Having finished painting, let it dry, and clean off the varnish with turpentine and paint this part in the required color, having previously covered the finished part of the ball with oil varnish.

Proceed in a similar way if the ball needs to be painted on three or four sides.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Efficient windmill-pipe 14.05.2013

SheerWind has developed an original wind farm that produces 600% more electricity than traditional ones.

The windmill called INVELOX has an unusual design and is a curved pipe of variable cross section, which efficiently utilizes wind energy. In fact, INVELOX is a set of bell-air intakes that capture the wind and, through a tapering pipe, bring the air flow to the blades of the electric generator. This design has many advantages: the design is safe because there are no huge open blades; easy to build and operate; at the outlet of the turbine, a useful (for example, for ventilation of car tunnels) air flow is obtained faster than the original wind.

Moreover, according to the developers, the INVELOX windmill will generate much more energy. This is achieved by compressing and accelerating the air flow, as well as a smaller mass of moving parts. So, if the wind speed is 16 km / h, then in the windmill pipe it grows to 64 km / h, and at the outlet of the turbine - 24 km / h. During the experiments, the efficiency of INVELOX was 81-660% higher than that of conventional windmills.

INVELOX is more environmentally friendly than conventional windmills. For example, it is smaller, makes less noise and poses less danger to birds. In addition, the INVELOX installation is cheaper - about 750 dollars per 1 kW of generated power, or only 1 cent per kWh.

So far, developers are testing INVELOX in various modes and improving its design. It is possible that the seemingly simple design of a windmill-turbine can change the face of modern energy. INVELOX windmills are scalable: they can be used both in the form of huge industrial wind farms and for energy supply of a separate house.
