When drilling, threading, assembly work, it often becomes necessary to clean blind holes from metal chips. For this purpose, various magnetic pencils, suction and other devices are used; we have already discussed some of them in this section of the magazine.

Another chip removal device was developed by the participants of the NTTM of the Kolomna Diesel Locomotive Plant. Its feature is the safety of the robot when blowing metal particles from blind holes and closed planes of parts. This is facilitated by the constructive solution of the instrument.

It consists of a quick-change end switch, which serves to connect to the pneumatic network, cylindrical bushings, a special cone divider and a nozzle. The built-in spool acts as a bypass valve, creates the necessary mode of air flow when working with a tool.

The main part of the device - the divider - serves to create the main and protective air jets.

The first through the central hole and the nozzle is directed into the part and blows the chips. A protective air screen is created by the conical surface of the divider - it protects the worker from flying chips and drops of cutting fluid or oil.

A similar safe device was created by the innovator V. Ilyushin at the Kuibyshev Machine Tool Production Association. This is a pistol connected through a fitting to a compressed air network. A short "barrel" Ø 25-35 mm has another one - a tube Ø 8 mm coming out from the inside, through which compressed air enters the hole to be cleaned. Capturing metal particles, he brings them out.

Both devices greatly increase labor productivity and hole cleaning efficiency and improve working conditions.

Mega BEAST Electric School Bus 07.11.2023

GreenPower Motor Company has introduced the new Mega BEAST electric school bus to the US market, featuring the largest battery pack and record-breaking range. The model is designed for use in rural school districts where long distances require long travel times, as well as for efficient use on busy routes.

Mega BEAST is an improved version of the Type D electric school bus, known as BEAST (battery electric automotive school transportation). The initial model, introduced in 2019, is being successfully piloted in various school districts.

The new product, also classified as Type D, features a larger LFP battery (with a capacity of 387 kWh), which increases the range to an impressive 483 km, more than doubling compared to the previous model. LFP batteries, with added safety features and high energy density, also offer a long service life despite a higher initial cost.

The company emphasizes that the Mega BEAST offers "the longest range and largest battery in a school bus." This is especially important for rural school districts that require significant distances between remote communities. The bus is also suitable for long-distance school trips and extra-curricular activities, and the high energy reserve is useful on busy routes where there is no opportunity for quick recharging during the day.

The Mega BEAST electric school bus is scheduled to be produced at GreenPower's California and South Charleston, West Virginia plants beginning in 2024.
