Radio amateurs often have to drill a large number of small diameter holes in circuit boards. It is not very convenient to do this with serial drills - the dimensions are too large. And a thin drill is not so easy to clamp in a large cartridge.

I got out of the situation as follows: I made myself a micro-electric drill out of ... the Kharkiv-15 electric razor that had fallen into disrepair (other modifications of this brand, as well as Agidel, will do). I installed a homemade removable drilling head instead of knives.

The head is a single-stage gearbox with two parallel shafts, on which gears with a number of teeth of 14 and 39 are mounted (from electric shavers of the first releases). The primary shaft is connected to the electric motor, and the secondary shaft is connected to factory-made cartridge No. 1.

The body of the head is machined from duralumin; it is attached to the electric razor with a M22X1 threaded mounting flange and a homemade lock nut and is closed with a lid on two M3 countersunk screws. The side mounting cutout in the housing (bearings and the output shaft gear are fed into it during assembly) is masked by a clip fixed on the housing with one M3 screw. The holder has a mesh knurling, which helps to screw the drill head into the M22x1 thread.

The primary shaft, machined from steel 45 (St40X can be used), rotates in two radial bearings No. 1000083, the secondary (made of the same material) - in three bearings, two of which are No. 24, one (thrust) self-made.

For those who wish to make themselves the same microelectric drill, I advise you to somewhat simplify the design. For example, a pair of output shaft bearings (No. 24 and self-made), if possible, replace with one angular contact of a suitable size; combine the clip and the cover into one part, then there will be no need for a seat for the cover, as well as for the side mounting screw.

The duration of continuous operation of "Kharkov-15" or "Agidel" (until strong heating) is about 12 minutes. During this time, I was able to drill 210 holes Ø 1 mm in a glass-textolite board 1,8 mm thick.

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. Household chemicals and intestines 05.11.2020

A team of researchers has found for the first time a correlation between the levels of bacteria and fungi in children's gastrointestinal tracts and the amount of common chemicals found in their home environment. The work could lead to a better understanding of how these semi-volatile organic compounds can affect human health.

The gut microbiome - the community of microbes that live in our intestinal tract - has attracted increasing interest from researchers in recent years. The microbes in our gut, which are rich in bacteria and fungi, are believed to influence everything from nutrient absorption to our immunity, and an unhealthy microbiome is implicated in diseases from obesity to asthma and dementia.

In the study, researchers measured the levels of ubiquitous semi-organic compounds in the blood and urine of 69 toddlers and preschool children, and then studied the children's gut microbiomes using fecal samples. The semi-volatile organic compounds they measured included phthalates, which are used in detergents, plastic fabrics (raincoats, shower curtains), personal care products: soap, shampoo, and hair spray; and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are used in stain- and water-repellent fabrics, carpet and furniture coverings, non-stick culinary products, polishes, paints, and cleaners. People are exposed to such chemicals in the air and dust in their homes on a daily basis, especially young children who can ingest them while crawling on carpet or frequently putting objects in their mouths.

When the researchers looked at levels of fungi and bacteria in the gut, they found that children who had higher levels of chemicals in their bloodstream had differences in their gut microbiome.

In children with higher blood levels of PFAS, there was a decrease in the number and diversity of bacteria, while increased levels of phthalates were associated with a decrease in fungal populations.

The scientists found that the correlation between chemicals and reduced bacterial diversity was particularly strong and potentially the most damaging.
