What should be the workbench? Of course, durable and easy to use! However, many, besides this, will also note compactness and the possibility of quick disassembly, since not all lovers of carpentry have a workshop or utility room at their disposal; a city dweller sometimes has to be content with a balcony or loggia. I hope that my design of a collapsible workbench will be liked not only by its ease of use and storage, but also by its ease of manufacture.

The main building material is boards and beams made of hardwood (birch, oak).

We connect four identical boards with a size of 25x150x740 mm in pairs with screws, forming two "T-shaped" legs. We connect them with four bolts at the top with a long transverse board of the same section - the frame of the workbench is ready. The increased rigidity in the longitudinal direction is determined by the given width of the boards, and in the transverse direction - by the supports of the racks, made of beams with a section of 50x50 mm. Segments of beams of the same section serve as a support for the desktop of a workbench formed from two boards with a section of 50x150 mm.

The emphasis on the edge of the working board will help when working with a planer.

The crossbar of the frame can be used to store the tool: I have a shelf and a bar with cells for chisels.

Collapsible workbench (click to enlarge): 1 - desktop support (50x50x300 mm), 2 pcs., 2 - rack frame (25x150x740 mm), 2 pcs., 3 - pressure bar (30x40x100 mm), 2 pcs., 4 - frame cross member (25x150x1350 mm). 5 - tool holder, 6 - M8 connecting bolts (10 pcs.), 7 - leg stand (25x150x740 mm), 2 pcs., 8 - load (timber, blanks), 9 - screws 5x60 mm (in pcs.). 10 - leg support (50x50x450 mm). 11 - stop (25x50x100 mm), 12 - working board (50x150x1700 mm), 2 pcs., 13 - bottom of the shelf, plywood (5x105x800 mm), 14 - side of the shelf (25x50x800 mm)

For greater stability of the workbench, place an additional load on the protruding rear parts of the rack supports, preferably timber.

Almost all connections of load-bearing structural elements are bolted. This allows you to almost completely disassemble the structure, which is convenient for transportation and storage.

Incomplete disassembly is also possible: by unscrewing only 8 bolts, you can remove the working board and rack supports from the frame. In this form, the workbench will not take up much space, but if necessary, it will be brought into working position in a few minutes.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Window panes generate electricity 16.07.2014

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have come up with a new way to use ordinary windows. Thanks to the work of scientists, it is possible to use windows as a source for the production of electrical energy.

The basis of the new development is photocells that cover the window on both sides. They are created using organic molecules that need infrared radiation to produce energy. In this case, visible light passes through them. The electricity obtained in this way can be used to operate various devices.

Attempts to create transparent solar panels have been made before, but the resulting batteries either had a very low efficiency (less than 1%), or did not transmit light well enough, which is not the most suitable option for window glass.

MIT researchers have developed a unique cell chemistry that delivers high visible light transmission when partially interacting with a reflective coating, and is more efficient than previous versions.

Developers have achieved to date an efficiency of only 1,7% of the ability to absorb solar panels. In the future plans of the group - to achieve an efficiency indicator of 12%.
