Krabi. Nature miracle

One of the amazing places in Southeast Asia where you can see "soaring rocks" is in Thailand. It is called Krabi - after the name of a small trading town at the mouth of the river of the same name. It is located 800 kilometers south of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. By plane, it's about an hour's flight.

Between Krabi and the large bay of Ao Nang, the elongated Railay Peninsula protrudes into the sea. It can only be reached by local boats. The Thais call them "longtails" - because of the propeller, which is far from the stern, which works like a steering oar. The peninsula is fenced off from the mainland by high impregnable limestone cliffs. On the right, it is washed by the waters of a muddy bay. Mangrove trees grow here. At low tide, the so-called alluring crabs run along the sticky gray mud, one of their claws is greatly enlarged compared to the other.

On the left bank of the peninsula there are three magnificent and very small beaches with the purest light yellow sand. Here, not far from the coast, in shallow water, several vertical cliffs rise high into the air. For millions of years, sea waves have literally gnawed their foundations, and at low tide, these majestic rocks resemble outlandish giant mushrooms on short legs. When at dawn and at sunset the color of the sea begins to merge with the color of the sky, it seems that these giants are floating in the air.

The rocks are made of limestone. These are the remains of shells of mollusks that lived on our planet tens of millions of years ago. Often limestone lies on a base of volcanic tuff and hardened lava. The chipped edges of the air bubbles that once filled the bubbling lava are as sharp as broken glass. Water flowing down the rocks during the rainy season slowly dissolves the lime. Dripping from ledges, it forms huge stone icicles, sometimes two or more human heights high. They hang from stone ledges, almost touching the water. Some have climbing hooks. For rock climbers, this is a paradise. They come here from all over the world. There are even several shops on the peninsula that rent out climbing equipment.

The Railay Peninsula is quite small, but its nature is so interesting and unusual that dozens of tourists come here every day. In addition to the "soaring rocks", they have something to admire. You can climb into the Diamond Cave or go down to the bottom of the so-called lagoon - a large failure in the center of one of the cliffs. In the depths of the peninsula are abandoned banana plantations. Under water - corals and sea urchins. At the end of the day, a gang of monkeys descends from the cliffs to beg bananas and other fruits from tourists.

When the water recedes at low tide, unicellular algae and larvae of all kinds of marine life settle on the surface of the sand. Tiny crabs crawl out of the sandy holes to collect this free treat. Feeding, they roll tiny balls out of the sand and leave them near the entrance to the mink. After a couple of hours, the entire surface of the beach, wet from the water, is covered with tiny necklaces made of sand beads. The sun sets in the sea, and against the background of orange skies, the stone cliffs of Krabi hang in dark, almost black masses over the golden waters.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Silent ion powered drone 18.05.2022

Undefined Technologies from Florida (USA) has introduced the next generation of its "silent" commercial UAV Ventus, which uses an ion engine instead of propellers.

Undefined Technologies started developing the prototype a year and a half ago. It is based on the patented Air Tantrum technology, the details of which are not disclosed. However, the company indicates that it is thanks to her that the device will be very quiet. The concept was first presented in 2021, since then it has been significantly improved.

Ion thrusters are used in rocket science. This type of electric motor is remarkable in that it does not require a lot of fuel and lasts more than 3 years, which is a high indicator. It works according to the following principle: ionized gas is accelerated to high speeds in an electric field, which provides jet thrust. Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology experimented with ion engines. They developed an aircraft with this type of engine, but during the tests they found out that the device required much more thrust and a more capacious energy storage device.

According to CEO Thomas Pibanik, the device emits noise at the level of 85 decibels. The ultimate goal set by the developers is about 70 decibels. The DJI Mavic demonstrates the same noise level, but given that the Ventus, as planned, should have a larger carrying capacity and larger dimensions, the indicated noise level is an achievement.
