Travelers of all times, especially on long-distance routes, have been given a lot of trouble not only by cooking in camping conditions, but also by transporting food. These problems still exist today, even for campers.

A big challenge for autotourists is the packaging and affordable placement of products needed for cooking on the road. This will help simple car container, shown in the photo, which is within the power to make with your own hands.

The history of the creation of a prototype of such a container dates back to 1866, during the period of automobile exploration of America, when a certain Charles Goodnight knocked together a box with several compartments for the trunk of his car. These compartments conveniently accommodated food, water containers, tools and various household items with which he set off on his journey. The box had a hinged lid, which, when opened, turned into a kitchen table for cooking.

You can, using illustrations (taken from the magazine "Popular Mekenix" (USA), successfully make such a container for yourself if you are traveling in a station wagon or combi car. For an ordinary sedan car, the dimensions of the container will be several change to fit the dimensions of the luggage compartment.

In any case, it is better to carefully measure the dimensions of the cargo compartment of your car before starting the manufacture of the container, so that the container can be installed without any problems. The volumes of the internal compartments should be adjusted to the dimensions of the available containers, cans and boxes in which the products will be placed. The design of such a camping galley is clearly visible in the photograph and drawings, but it is not necessary to strictly adhere to the given dimensions (they are indicative) and just such a scheme.

The pictured container consists of two main parts, and this should provide additional convenience in the parking lot, as well as when placing the cargo. The top section has a hinged lid and doors that open to the left and right, behind which are cavities for various small food containers. The lower section is designed for larger items, and also has drawers for all kinds of small things. All of it is covered with a lid that leans back, like a secretary, on furniture (or piano) hinges along its lower edge. In the parking lot, the lid drops down and turns into a convenient table, held in a horizontal position by two plate stops on the sides.

Both sections are made separately from plywood with a thickness of about 10 mm. Separate execution facilitates their loading into the luggage compartment and installation in two floors. In addition, the upper part removed in the parking lot can serve as a seat during a meal.

The names of the compartments in the sections are given conditionally: even for one owner, the use of container containers can be different on different trips, and the size and location of the compartments will be selected during manufacture depending on their purpose. For hygiene reasons, it is better to paint the internal surfaces of compartments, especially those intended for food, with enamel paints or paste over with a film, aluminum foil: it will be easier to keep them clean.
