Clouds - a visible manifestation of the state of the atmosphere, therefore, earlier than anything else, they began to servesigns of future weather.

When the weather worsens, cirrus clouds almost always appear first, later merging into cirrostratus.

This may be accompanied by optical phenomena - a halo. To observe them, just stretch out your hand and cover the sun with your palm, then at your fingertips you can see part of the shiny circle that was formed by the sun's rays passing through the veil of cirrostratus clouds. This circle is usually faintly colored in the same colors as the rainbow, but in the opposite order. Its formation is associated with the refraction of sunlight in ice crystals located in the clouds.

The presence of cirrostratus clouds forming a halo indicates that there is tropical air at altitude carrying large amounts of moisture. Then (sometimes) distant ridges of altocumulus clouds appear and, finally, altostratus and nimbostratus clouds, which, condensing, bring rain.

The average speed of movement of atmospheric disturbances is 50 km/h. Therefore, at the sight of the first white claws (cirrus clouds) that cover the entire sky, there is every reason to expect rain within 12-24 hours, because... it is very likely (at least in temperate latitudes) that the front of the cloud system has approached and that its main part will appear in the near future. Although it is possible that the peripheral part of the cloud system will pass over you, which will not cause a sharp change in the weather. In any case, warm air at an altitude of 5-6 kilometers is already above you.

Often, especially in winter, nimbostratus clouds that produce rain or snow are followed by low, gray, uniform clouds that envelop hills and high-rise buildings. They resemble fog hanging over the earth. These are stratus clouds. Stratus clouds can produce precipitation, even for quite a long period, but only in the form of tiny droplets. It won't even be rain, but some kind of drizzle.

Stratus clouds do not always follow nimbostratus clouds. If a flow of relatively warm, moist air moves over the sea or over a colder continent, stratus clouds can spread over a large area.

People often try to predict the weather based on the color of the clouds at sunset. But brightly colored sun and sky or clouds indicate that the lower atmosphere is relatively dry. This is a rather unreliable sign to base any conclusions about the upcoming weather on. After all, the dryness or humidity of the surface layer of air depends on very variable local conditions. Only one thing can be said with confidence: the air is warm enough and is able to contain more vapors than it contains.

Signs about changing weather:

  • If the sun goes behind a cloud, then the next day - bad weather
  • When a cyclone approaches, the sun hides behind the clouds.
  • Moving at a speed of 30-35 km per hour. The cyclone usually reaches the place from which the observation was made the next day. But it should be remembered that not every cloud clearly means the approach of a cyclone. If long stripes are visible in the western part of the horizon (cirrus clouds, fan-shaped, emerging from one place), then this is the approach of a cyclone.
  • Clouds go low - to cold, against the wind - to snow, float high - to good weather.
  • Blue clouds - to heat and rain
  • The color of the sky becomes whitish - cirrus clouds appear - the weather will worsen.
  • Cumulus clouds are pulled up like towers - there will be a thunderstorm.
  • Cumulus clouds take on different shapes - this is a sign of good, clear and warm weather (they are formed by rising air currents and should not be confused with the vague ones that bring bad weather)
  • In the morning the sky is cloudless, then with sunrise small cumulus clouds appear, which after 3 o’clock in the afternoon begin to melt - good weather for 1-2 days
  • If the weather improves, then the clouds begin to melt after 3 pm.
  • In summer, clouds go down in groups - to the rain
  • The wind intensifies in the evening, a cyclone is approaching
  • The wind is getting stronger, changing direction clockwise - towards rain, a cyclone is approaching
  • The wind in winter blew from the north to great cold.
  • The night is quiet; at 8 am the wind appears; it intensifies by noon; after 16 pm it subsides - indicating good weather. If in bad weather the wind sharply changes direction from east to west, the weather will improve (the cyclone has already passed)
  • The wind blows during the day from the sea to the land, in the evening from land to the sea - to good weather.
  • The fog dissipates quickly after sunrise - good weather is coming soon.
  • Fog spreads across the water - good weather. Rise up disappears after sunrise without wind to good weather.
  • A foggy circle (ring) is visible around the sun in winter to a blizzard, in summer to rain.
  • The sun at sunrise seems larger than usual - to rain
  • If in summer when the sun sets from the north side the sky turns red - frost or cold dew.
  • A red evening dawn means wind, a pale one means rain, a clear sunset means the weather will be good.
  • The sun sets in the fog - to the rain.
  • The Milky Way is full of stars and bright - for good weather, dim for bad weather.
  • The stars twinkle strongly, and in the morning the sky is covered with clouds - at noon there will be a thunderstorm.
  • White or red circles near the stars - for good weather, black for rain
  • From where the rays of the star seem longer, the wind will be from there.
  • The stars are very red in winter to cold, in summer to clear weather,
  • In summer there are few stars in the sky, bad weather, in winter - cold.
  • Month horns down - to the heat.
  • The young month has blunt horns for rain, pointed horns for drought, and a red month for rain.
  • Ring around the moon - to the wind.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>
