PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Pneumatic sailboat. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air With all its advantages, an inflatable boat of any design has the same general disadvantages: short oar, turtle move and poor handling. We managed to get rid of all of them at once by adapting our boat "Dive-4" for sailing: with it, she became both faster and more obedient. And the actual retrofitting turned out to be quite simple and compact, that is, it fit into the amenities typical of inflatable boats. To equip the "Circus" a triangular sail from a windsurfer was used, along with a mast and a boom, but with some modifications. The sail area - about three square meters - is quite enough to ensure a good move, at the same time, the necessary stability of the boat on the water is maintained. The panel is cut out according to the drawings recommended for the windsurfer. The mast is made composite, from two duralumin pipes with a diameter of 30 mm and a wall thickness of 5 mm; mast length - 2,3 m. The windsurfer's boom undergoes the greatest transformations. It is assembled from curved bamboo sticks 1,5 m long or aluminum tubes Ø 25 mm fastened in pairs and wall thickness 3 mm. They form two halves of the boom, interconnected by two segments of a thick-walled rubber hose, bent in half and pulled simultaneously on both ends of the boom arcs. This design is simple and reliable in operation. The mast, as well as the boom, if it is made of duralumin tubes, have foam plugs at the ends for unsinkability. To stabilize the movement of the boat under sail, you will need two more side screws. They can be made from sheet duralumin of suitable thickness (or with stiffeners), as well as from thick plywood. The screws are installed on both sides of the boat directly on the blades of the oars, for which there are corresponding holes in the screws. And the oars themselves are joined by means of a wooden (or duralumin) step, which has special holes for the handles of the oars, as well as a vertical well floor mast: thus, it is the central assembly unit.
All assembly can be done directly in the boat. Bladed parts are taken from the oars; screws are hung on them like this. that the expanding parts of the blades of the oars enter their slots; the handles of the oars are inserted through the rubber oarlocks of the boat into the steps and secured with wing bolts. Then the mast and boom are assembled; the end of the mast is installed in steps. The whole structure turns out to be both rigid and flexible at the same time: the longitudinal displacement is neutralized by the emphasis of the screws on the sides of the boat, and the mast can only tilt forward or backward. At the same time, it is held with one hand, and the second one controls the sail by the boom-sheet: all this resembles “work” on a windsurfer, only instead of the “standing” position - “sitting”. When the mast is deflected, the scheerzbeam turns - steps with oars, then the ends of the shverts blades move forward or backward accordingly. By holding the boom sheet and deflecting the mast, we not only regulate the traction force, but also shift the center of sail relative to the center of lateral resistance - we turn the boat in the right direction. The decomposition of forces in this case occurs in such a way that the force required to hold the mast is negligible; in addition, you can manage and two, delimiting duties. All parts of the equipment must be made in such a way as to meet the requirements of unsinkability, since the assembly, as we have already said, can be carried out afloat, however, disassembly too. Steps and screws are placed in a bag included in the boat kit, and long boom and mast tubes are placed in a special narrow case. Of course, this design has its drawbacks. And above all, when driving, you must constantly keep the boom sheet and mast in your hands. True, this inconvenience is offset by a sporting interest in the management itself. What can not be said about the frontal wave overflowing into the boat. However, here, too, you can find a way out by reducing the speed or constructing a simple removable wavebreaker on the bow of the boat.
