This automaton (Fig. 1), which can be a useful demonstration tool for group study of the rules of the road, consists of a pulse generator on the elements DD1.1-DD1.3, an inverter DD1.4, a JK flip-flop DD2, a logical node on the elements DD3.1 .3.3-DD1, transistors VT3-VT1 operating in key mode, and incandescent signal lamps HL3-HLXNUMX.

traffic light model
Fig 1. Traffic light model

The color of the traffic light on is determined by the logical state of the elements DD3.1-DD3.3, which can be seen from the table in this figure.

Suppose that at the moment from which we begin to analyze the operation of the automaton, the element DD1.4 and the trigger DD2 are in a single state (the top line of the table). At this time, the state of the element DD3.3 is zero, the transistor VT3 is open and, therefore, the green lamp HL3 is on. The elements DD3.1 and DD3.2 are in a single state, the transistors VT1 and VT2 are closed and the lamps HL1 and HL2 do not light. On the decline of the pulse at the output of the element DD1.4, the trigger DD2 switches to the zero state (second row of the table).

At this moment, a low level voltage will appear at its direct output (pin 8), and a high level voltage will appear at the inverse (pin 6). In this case, the DD3.3 element is in a single state, the VT3 transistor closes and the HL3 lamp goes out, but the red HL1 lamp turns on, since now the DD3.1 element will be in the zero state, and the transistor VT1 will be open. The HL2 lamp does not shine at this time, because the DD3.2 element is in a single state. The front of the next pulse at the output of the element DD1.4 does not change the logical state of the trigger and the elements of the logical node.

On the decline of this pulse, the trigger and after it the element DD3.1 switch to the zero state, and the elements DD3.2 and DD3.3 switch to the single state (second row of the table). In this case, the green signal lamp HL3 goes out and the red lamp HL1 lights up. On the decline of the next pulse coming from the generator to the input C of the trigger through the inverter DD1.4, the trigger and the elements DD3.1, DD3.2 are in the zero state, and the element DD3.3 remains in the single state (third row of the table). Now the yellow signal lamp HL2 lights up and the red signal lamp HL1 continues to light.

The decline of the next pulse extinguishes the lamps HL1 and HL2 and re-lights the green lamp HL3. From the next pulse, the cycle of the traffic light model is repeated.

The power source of such an automaton can be a rectifier, a 3336 battery, or three or four 343 cells connected in series. Transistors in the device-series GT402 or GT403 with any letter index. The function of electronic keys can also be performed by low-power p-n-p transistors of the MP39-MP42, GT308 series, but then the signal lamps HL1-HL3 should be for a lower heating current, for example, MH2,5-0,06 lamps.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Improved efficiency of flexible CIGS solar cell 13.10.2022

Researchers at the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA) have achieved a world record efficiency of 22,2% for a flexible copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS) solar cell on polyimide plastic film.

The German Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) confirmed the results. As of September 2021, the cell efficiency was 21,4%.

The device was fabricated by low-temperature compatible evaporation to grow a light-absorbing CIGS semiconductor thin film.

"The current improvement in efficiency is due to doping the light-absorbing semiconductor layer to improve its electronic properties," the research team said.

The solar cell has been developed by a research group over the past 23 years. Their "record path" began in 1999 with an efficiency of 12,8%, which then increased to 14,1% (2005), 17,6% (2010), 18,7% (2011) and 20,4% (2013) and finally reached 20,8% (2019), 21,4% last year.

"The flexible and lightweight solar modules resulting from this technology are particularly suitable for applications on rooftops and facades of buildings, greenhouses, vehicles, airships and portable electronic devices," said Ayodhya Tiwari, head of the Thin Film and Photovoltaics Laboratory.

By the way, the Japanese company Solar Frontier has achieved by far the highest efficiency among CIGS solar cells - 23,35%. German manufacturer of thin-film modules Avancis achieved the highest solar panel efficiency of 19,64%.
