Gorichnik nasturtium

Gorichnik nasturtium is a species of perennial herbaceous plants of the genus Gorichnik (Peicedanum) of the Umbrella family (Apiaceae).

The root is thick, fusiform, with numerous underground shoots.

The stem is straight, rounded, furrowed, glabrous, simple or branched at the top, 30-100 cm high.

Leaves glabrous or rough below. Basal leaves 30 cm long, 35 cm wide, almost doubly trifoliate, lobes of the first order petiolate, deeply tripartite, lobes elliptical or lanceolate, pointed, 5-10 cm long, 4-7 cm wide. The upper leaves are simply incised, sessile, vaginal.

Umbrellas 40-50-rayed, 10-15 cm in diameter, umbrellas about 1 cm in diameter. Calyx teeth inconspicuous; petals white or reddish, 1-1,5 mm long, 0,75-1 mm wide, broadly obovate.

The fruits are almost round, 4-5 mm long and the same width.

In nature, the range covers the mountainous areas of Western Europe. How alien naturalized in North America.

Gorichnik nasturtium

It grows high in the mountains (in the Alps above 1000 m, rarely below); prefers calcareous soils and silicas of mountain meadows, banks of streams, wet bushes.

The rhizome of the mustard (Rhizoma imperatoriae, Imp. albae or Osturthii) is used in folk medicine.

The therapeutic effect is provided by the furanocoumarins (imperatorin), essential oils, aromatic bitterness, tannins, resin and starch contained in the rhizome. In areas where gorichnik is abundant (Austria, Switzerland), it is used for steam baths (inhalations) for asthma and bronchitis.

The best time for harvesting rhizomes is early spring or late autumn.

In cooking, it is used to make Swiss green cheese. The rhizome is also used to make schnapps.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Nasturtium (Peucedanum osruthium) is a perennial herb used in traditional medicine to treat a number of ailments. It grows in the mountainous regions of Central and Southern Europe.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing nasturtium boletus:

Cultivation:

  • Prefers a sunny or semi-shaded place with good drainage capacity of the soil.
  • The soil should be light, fertile and retain moisture well. To improve the soil, you can add compost or natural fertilizers.
  • Seeds of nasturtium mustard should be planted at a depth of 1-2 cm and the distance between them should be at least 30 cm.
  • Water the plants regularly to keep the soil moist, but don't water it to avoid root rot.
  • Fertilize with nasturtium compost or natural fertilizers once a year.
  • Water your plants regularly, especially during hot weather.
  • Remove any dry or damaged leaves and stems to allow better air circulation and reduce the risk of disease.

Workpiece:

  • Harvest nasturtium roots during fall or early spring.
  • Clean the roots of dirt and earth and wash them in cool water.
  • Dry the roots in the sun or in a dryer at a temperature not exceeding 40 ° C.
  • Store dried roots in covered containers in a cool, dry place.

Storage:

  • Store dried nasturtium roots in a cool, dry place to avoid spoilage.
  • Use the dried roots to make tea or to season your dishes.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Changing red blood cells to activate the immune system against covid 18.03.2022

Physicists, chemists and immunologists from McMaster University (Canada) have modified red blood cells to carry viral agents that can safely trigger the immune system to defend the body against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, creating a new potential vaccine delivery vehicle.

The new method represents a completely unique approach to vaccination. Scientists removed all the "insides" of red blood cells and attached spike proteins to the outside of the cells to mimic the coronavirus. These empty cells can be filled with a large dose of viral proteins - without the genetic material of the virus.

Once in the body, the modified cells activate the immune system and produce antibodies, a study in mice showed. At the same time, the new method of vaccine delivery causes few side effects compared to existing methods.

"Some of the vaccines developed have shown side effects. This delivery platform opens up new opportunities for vaccines and therapeutics," the authors of the paper note.
