It was known as the "flower of the Sun" and symbolized the connection between man and the divine. Datura Indian was also used in magical rituals and as a narcotic substance. The narcotic properties of the plant have been known for many centuries, and its leaves and seeds have been used to make traditional narcotic drinks, such as ayatli, which were used in rites and ceremonies.

Datura Indian

An annual grayish-fluffy herbaceous plant 60-150 cm high, of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

The stem is forked, with alternate long-petiolate, broadly ovate greyish-green leaves.

Flowers solitary, large, up to 20 cm long, white, located in the forks of the stem.

The fruit is a drooping spherical box of grayish-green or brown color, 3-6 cm long, densely covered with needle-like spikes. At the base of the box is a bent cup. Seeds are scythe, grayish, up to 5 mm long.

Flowering in July-October, fruiting in August.

Range and habitats. Homeland dope Indian - Central and South America. For industrial purposes it is cultivated in Central Asia.

Chemical composition. All parts of Datura contain dangerous levels of poisons and can be fatal to humans or animals if swallowed. In some regions of the world, the purchase, sale and cultivation of Datura is prohibited.

All parts of the plant contain alkaloids (from 0,15-0,24% in the stem to 0,83% in the seeds). The main alkaloid is scopolamine, the content of which in various organs of the plant varies in leaves 0,005-0,16%, in stems 0,04-0,12%, in roots 0,08%, in flowers 0,34%, in fruits 0,38, 0,41-0,77%, in seeds up to XNUMX%. The plant also contains hyoscyamine, norgioscyamine, tigloidin, meteloidin, atropine, tropine, and pseudotropine.

Application in medicine. As a medicinal raw material, the seed of Indian dope (lat. Semen Daturae innoxiae) is used. Raw materials are harvested during the period of browning of the lower boxes. Dry at a temperature of 45-50 ° C. The raw material is used to obtain scopolamine hydrobromide, used in psychiatry as part of Aeron.

Datura innoxia (Datura innoxia) is a fast-growing annual plant of the night violet family that can be grown in warm regions as an ornamental plant or as a source of medicinal substances.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing Indian Datura:

Cultivation:

  • Datura Indian loves a sunny location and well-drained soil.
  • The plant can be planted outdoors when danger of frost has passed, or in pots for growing indoors.
  • The plant can reach a height of up to 1,5 meters, therefore, when planting in open ground, it is recommended to leave a distance of about 60 cm between plants.
  • Datura Indian needs moderate watering, as too dry soil can lead to wilting of the plant, and too wet can lead to root rot.
  • Remove wilted flowers regularly to encourage new growth.
  • After flowering, it is recommended to trim the tops of the plant to encourage the formation of new buds.

Workpiece:

  • Flowering branches of Datura Indiana can be used to make medicinal tinctures, ointments, and tea blends.
  • The flowers and leaves of the plant can be harvested at any time, but for the best quality of raw materials, it is recommended to collect them in the morning, when the content of active components is highest.

The fabric of the future is changing shape and color 02.05.2023

Scientists from the University of Waterloo have unveiled a smart fabric that can change shape and color at the same time. It was created by interweaving several durable structures. This allows it to be strong, flexible, yet soft to the touch.

If you heat the development with a hair dryer or any other device, it will change color from purple to blue. The main rule is to get in the temperature range from 20 °C to 60 °C. Otherwise, "magic" will not happen.

When the fabric cools down, it will return to its original purple color. So far, this option only works with two colors, but later the palette can be expanded.

Another development feature is shape change. Under the influence of electrical impulses, the tissue straightens or, conversely, contracts. It can become softer and more flexible, or it can become so rigid that it becomes difficult to bend.

The fabric was woven using a device that looks like a traditional loom. The materials used were polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and thermochromic microcapsules (TMC) with blended yarn of stainless steel fibers. The latter gave it electrical properties, while PET provided the shape memory.

Given the cost-effectiveness - the polymers used were from recycled plastic - the researchers see great promise in their new smart fabric.

"As a wearable material, it has almost limitless potential in games and experiences with artificial intelligence, robotics and virtual reality," Milad Kamkar, one of the study's authors, said. "Imagine feeling a warmth or a physical trigger for a deeper adventure in the virtual world."
