sago palm

The real sago palm (sago palm) is a species of palms of the genus Metroxylon (Metroxylon). One of the most famous species of sago palms, they are valuable food plants, from the core of the trunk of which the starchy food product sago is obtained.

A plant with a trunk about 9 meters high and 30-35 cm in diameter. The leaves are paired, up to 5-7 meters long, with linear-lanceolate narrow pointed leaves, about 1 meter long and about 5 cm wide with bristly pubescent veins below.

The leaves are planted on strong petioles, grooved on top, about 1 m long, with thorns. The inflorescences are apical, about 4 meters long, branched, sometimes with thorns.

The plant dies after the first fruiting.

It grows in tropical forests and on the coast of the islands of Southeast Asia in Indonesia, the Malay Archipelago, Fiji and New Guinea, as well as the Moluccas and Malaysia. It is found in the Philippines, but was probably brought there by humans.

The palm is of significant commercial importance as the main source of sago, which is obtained from the core of the trunk by washing the crushed wood of the core of the trunk with water.

The starch obtained from palm wood is used for culinary purposes, for example, sago pancakes are one of the staple foods of the local population.

The leaves can be used as straw for walls and ceilings or for building rafts.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

The sago palm (Metroxylon sagu) is a tall palm tree grown for the production of sago, a starch obtained from the starchy heart of the plant's stems.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing sago palm:

Cultivation:

  • Growing: The sago palm grows in tropical conditions and prefers high humidity, warmth and abundant rain. It can grow up to 20 meters in height and have a trunk diameter of up to 45 cm.
  • Soil and Light Choice: The sago palm grows best in fertile, moist soils. It can be grown in a variety of soil types, but prefers soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6,0-6,5). The plant also needs good light, so choose a location where it will get enough sunlight.
  • Planting: Sago palm should be planted during the rainy season. The plant can be planted both with seeds and with the help of shoots. When planting seeds, it is recommended to use fresh seeds that are soaked in water for several days in advance. Landing is carried out at a depth of 2-3 cm.
  • Spacing between plants: Sago palms need ample space to grow, so plant them at least 4-5 meters apart.
  • Care: The sago palm needs abundant watering and regular fertilization. It is recommended to water the plant every week, especially during the rainy season. You should also fertilize the plant once a month using fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. It is also necessary to regularly remove dry leaves and trunks.

Workpiece:

  • The starchy core of the sago palm trunks is harvested by cutting the trunks.
  • The core must be washed, cleaned of fibers and dried in the sun.
  • Once dried, the core can be crushed and used to make a variety of dishes such as cereals, soups, puddings, and more.

Storage:

  • Sago can be stored in a dry and cool place in tightly sealed containers.
  • You can also freeze sago to keep it fresh for a longer time.

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

GTX Titan accelerator with cooling system from Gigabyte 19.06.2013

Gigabyte has officially announced the version of the GeForce GTX Titan 3D accelerator with the WindForce 3X 450W cooling system. As we wrote earlier, due to the Nvidia ban, the new CO is not installed directly on the card, but comes with it. The user is invited to replace the CO himself, for which he will find instructions, thermal paste, bolts and everything else necessary for installation in the box. In this case, the guarantee remains. Of course, provided that when changing CO, the elements of the map were not damaged.

The cooling system itself is a combination of a double radiator, six heat pipes and three fans. The core frequencies are not listed on the official website, but the Videocardz resource claims that they are 928 MHz and 980 MHz in Boost mode. The 6 GB memory runs at 6 GHz. Judging by Idealo.de, the cost of the card is on average not much higher than the price of regular versions of the GTX Titan. An additional bonus for the buyer will be the presence of a gaming mouse pad in the delivery set.

This accelerator has 2688 CUDA cores and a 384-bit memory bus.
