Bell. Legends, myths, history

Onion bell (Rapunzel bell)

Wonderful creatures of nature - bluebell flowers - appeared on earth long before man. And later, several millennia ago, people made the first man-made bells.

There are a lot of beautiful legends about bells. And in almost all legends, bell flowers are associated with their relatives - sounding bells and bells.

From time immemorial, bells have been ringing in Rus'. Bells on church towers measured the course of days in towns and villages, church bells accompanied everyday life, rejoiced with the good news on holidays. The bells and bells of the coachmen brightened up the monotonous way for travelers.

How did bells originate? They say that the familiar flower, the bell, served as the prototype of the bell. No wonder the Latin name of the bell (campanula) comes from the word "satrap" - a bell. In Italy, the bell tower is called the campanile.

Bluebells, or as these flowers are called in the Pskov region - bells, are a charming plant. Even in the old days, the bell flower adorned both noble estates and rural front gardens. We often meet him in meadows and fields, next to forest paths. And indeed, it is simply impossible to call it otherwise than a bell or a bell, the bell-shaped form is so clearly expressed in its flowers. Wonderful blue and purple flowers nod their beautiful heads, and a tender feeling embraces us.

Similar feelings were experienced by Pontius Myronius Peacock the Merciful (353-431), Bishop of Nolan. One day he was returning to Nola (a city in Ancient Rome) after reviewing his diocese. And he sat down to rest on a hill overgrown with bluebells. Amazing, fabulous beauty of the place enchanted.

And then, half asleep, he saw angels. They hovered around and, together with a light breeze, swayed the bells on their thin stems. The bells made gentle silver sounds, sweet as angels singing. Pontius Myronius wanted to share what he had heard with all people. Saint Peacock ordered a bronze copy of a wild flower from the master. Since then, we can all enjoy the wonderful ringing of bells.

But this is a legend, and archaeologists have discovered that the bells came to people from ancient times - even the Egyptians knew about them. But when the very first bell appeared is still a mystery.

Many legends about bells and bells circulated in Russia as well.

One of them spoke about the monks who created bells by analogy with the forest bell.

Another, even more romantic legend, told that the monks loved to see the bathing of virgins.

With pleasure, they listened to the ringing voices of the girls. And in order to prolong this pleasure, the monks invented bells - the bell shapes repeated the graceful forms of Russian beauties, and with their ringing they resembled wonderful girlish voices.

There is also such a legend.

One village girl was weaving wreaths of bells for herself, and her heart, open to the miracles and charms of magic, heard a wondrous sound, and the girl became sad, and began to melt before her eyes. A blacksmith lived nearby. And that blacksmith fell in love with her without memory, and he decided that he would create a sound similar to the sound of the sky. This is how the first man-made bell appeared.

Ancient Slavic legends claim that bells, along with other flowers - lilies of the valley, carnations, cornflowers, love to dance at night, with ash flower torches. They will gather, set fire to a dozen or two ash trees and quietly have fun. The sight is so curious that even the stars begin to blink in surprise.

And once a year - on the night of Ivan Kupala - you can hear the quiet chime of bells.

They also say that many flowers-bells appeared when dashing coachmen's songs and the ringing of bells under an arc announced the surroundings, and flowers sprouted exactly where the chimes of bells fell to the ground.

The people gave bells many affectionate names: bells, bells, bells, tambourines, doves, eagles, gorlanchiki, keys.

Bell in ancient times was considered a strong love spell. In order to attract her beloved, the girl tore off the bell at dawn, and then attached it to the shutter.

And if you carefully pick a flower and put it in a shoe, then luck will certainly accompany you. Remember to only ask: "Bell bell, bring me good luck until tomorrow night." But there is one condition - while you wear a flower, you will have to tell only the truth.

According to the Celtic flower horoscope of the Druids, the bell is the flower of people born from 1 to 11 June. It is believed that bell people keep little secrets all their lives. They do not like to reveal all the cards to others, they are successful in almost all areas of activity. Bell people are smart, conservative, reliable, good family men, they know how to find a pleasant company and good acquaintances, they love disputes.

In the language of flowers, the bell means: humility, humility, constancy.

According to another legend, the hat of the most musical gnome in the world, which he forgot in the meadow after a midnight concert, turned into a bell.

Onion bell (Rapunzel bell)

And here is what a lovely English fairy tale tells.

In ancient times, there lived a little elf girl called Forget-Me-Not. She was very beautiful and romantic. One day she heard the beautiful distant sounds of the village church bells. Divine sounds delighted her and she announced: whoever can make a bell that will make the same sweet and gentle sounds, she will give her hand and heart to him.

Whatever miracles of invention the elves showed, but they did not succeed.

But one elf guessed to resort to the help of fairies and asked them to tell him how to make wonderful bells. Fairies created tiny bells from pieces of the sky. They hung these bells on green stalks and put in them a small fragment of magic stars.

When the magical night passed, and a light morning breeze shook the lowered heads of the bells, a beautiful quiet ringing was heard to the delight of the elves. Gentle and pure sounds seemed to embody the most wonderful sounds of the universe. And Forget-me-not ran straight to the elf, threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.

The legend of the flower fairy and the spirit of the Deep.

The Spirit of the Deep, on one of his walks, met a flower fairy - the daughter of the Forest Spirit and fell in love with her. The owner of underground riches presented his beloved with excellent emeralds, sapphires, topazes, rubies; brought her bunches of grapes from solar amber.

But the fairy smiled and said:

- Your stones are beautiful, but there is no life in them.

Then Nedr prepared a new gift and invited the fairy to his underground kingdom. In a luxurious hall, a bouquet of unknown flowers flaunted in a crystal vase. Their stems and leaves were made of emerald, and the flowers were made of amethysts and sapphires. The shape of the flowers was unusual: five fused petals formed elegant cups, and the fairy admired the flowers.

Bowels gave a sign to his friend - the Wind. At the touch of the breeze, the stamens swayed, lightly hitting the petals, making gentle sounds at the same time. A divine symphony sounded in the Nedra Hall, and the fairy whispered:

- They're alive.

The flower fairy liked the bells made of gems so much that she instilled a soul into them, breathed life into them and settled them all over the planet.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Linguistic abilities of rats 06.06.2005

Rats can be taught to hear two languages. Spanish psychologists from Barcelona, under the direction of Juan Toro, trained a group of eight rats to press the feeder lever when they were played phrases in Dutch, and another similar group in Japanese.

Rats quite confidently distinguished "their" language from "alien". They distinguished languages even if they were presented with phrases that they had never heard before.

Until now, the ability to distinguish languages by ear was known only in humans and tamarin monkeys (the smallest of the higher primates).
