Safe Operation

1. General safety requirements

The section is set out independently on the basis of the Standard Instructions TOI R-07-001-98 "General safety requirements for professions and types of work performed in the field" taking into account the specifics of a particular forestry enterprise.

2. Safety requirements before starting work

On footpaths and roads crossing the developed forest area where logging operations are carried out, safety signs and warning signs should be installed prohibiting the movement of people and vehicles in dangerous areas.

A worker engaged in cleaning logging residues, before starting work on a cutting site, is obliged:

  • receive instructions from the foreman or foreman - which area of the forest should be cleared (unauthorized transition (moving) to other areas is not allowed);
  • check the availability and serviceability of the tool, fixtures: the ax must be well mounted (84 degrees), wedged and the blade sharpened, the polished ax handle is made of dry hardwood, its length must correspond to the height of the worker, have a carrying case;
  • check the serviceability of the knotter, while its operator must pay special attention to the protective devices and sound alarms;
  • make sure there are no people in the danger zone;
  • check the availability and serviceability of overalls, footwear, protective devices, special equipment and fire extinguishing means, put on protective equipment and constantly use them at work.

3. Safety requirements during work

3.1. The worker and the operator of the pile picker must inspect the working area and clarify with the foreman the sequence of operations provided for by the technological map. During the operation of the knotter, coordinate the alarm and actions with its operator. When carrying out work, there must be at least 2 people.

3.2. It is forbidden to clean logging sites and other work within a radius of 50 m from the place of felling and violate other dangerous zones during logging operations; collect logging residues in large piles, which can lead to a forest fire; do not use fuel to light a fire.

3.3. The distance between those working on the same site must be at least 5 m, and when performing the work of a knot picker - at least 10 meters.

3.4. When collecting logging residues and stacking them in a pile, care must be taken to avoid facial injuries and bruises when crossing. Correcting a burning fire, it is necessary to be on the leeward side and not on a pile, being close to a pile, be careful.

It is necessary to carry branches with small burdens, in mittens, having a good view of the road in front of you; when burning branches, it is necessary to take into account the direction of the wind and ensure that sparks do not fall on clothing. You can not hold an ax in your hands or behind your belt when collecting and carrying branches, as well as throw it to another person.

3.5. During mechanized clearing of logging sites from logging residues, it is necessary to first buck deadwood into segments 3-4 m long. Branches should be laid no closer than 5 m from the forest wall, seed clumps and individual trees.

4. Safety requirements in emergency situations

4.1. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman, foreman and other work manager of each accident, provide the victim with first aid, if necessary, take measures to deliver him to a medical facility, and preserve the situation of the incident.

4.2. Work must be stopped at a wind speed of 11 m/s, during heavy rain, during thunderstorms, heavy snow and thick fog (visibility less than 50 m).

4.3. During a thunderstorm, metal objects and mechanisms are placed away from people, and people, if possible, take shelter indoors, occupy free space in a clearing, between trees growing from each other at a distance of 20-25 m; in the mountains, in hilly areas - closer to the middle of the slope; are located on insulating material (moss, birch bark, dry fallen wood).

It is forbidden during a thunderstorm to hide under trees, lean against their trunks, stay under the wires of telecommunication lines, come closer than 10 m to separate trees, poles, lightning rods, towers, large stones and other objects, be on top of a hill, near and under a power line , closer than 10 m from the mechanisms.

4.4. If a fire is detected, start extinguishing it using the available means, observing safety, inform the immediate supervisor, the forestry, forestry, other organization, if life is threatened, leave the danger zone. Do the same for any other hazard (radiation, chemical, environmental).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Synthesized a new type of antibiotic to fight superbugs 25.03.2018

The struggle of scientists against superviruses and superbugs continues - today another significant breakthrough in this area has been made, providing specialists with a lot of food for thought and a lot of material for study. The fact is that a talented team of microbiologists from the University of Lincoln, UK, managed to synthesize a new type of antibiotic that can effectively fight superbugs, being introduced as the basis for modern-class antiviral drugs.

The preliminary results obtained by specialists cannot but surprise, since they managed to defeat one such superbug in experimental mice.

This antibiotic is, at its core, a chemically measured "version" of a natural antibiotic called teixoblastin, discovered by American researchers in 2015 - it is known that its properties allow it to effectively fight viruses such as MRSA and VRE. Scientists from Lincoln University were able to synthesize a simpler form of this natural antibiotic by working with a change in the location of key amino acids in its structure - thus, they were able to obtain several strains of this antibiotic at once.

Further, their colleagues from the Singapore Eye Research Institute used one of the strains to try to treat some superbug in experimental rats - and they succeeded. But in addition to its primary function of treating and eliminating superbugs, this modified antibiotic also significantly prevents the further growth of such bacteria, creating a special environment in the human body.
