Electrical networks and installations must be designed so that their current-carrying parts are inaccessible to accidental touch.

The inaccessibility of current-carrying parts is achieved by their reliable isolation, the use of protective fences (casings, covers, grids, etc.), the location of current-carrying parts at an inaccessible height.

In installations with voltages up to 1000V, the use of insulated wires provides sufficient protection.

In the case when it is impossible to achieve reliable insulation or fencing of live parts, apply blocking (electrical and mechanical) for automatic disconnection of dangerous voltage when a person enters the danger zone.

Structural execution fences depends on the installation voltage. Guardrails must be designed so that they can be removed and opened with keys or a tool. Mesh fencing of current-carrying parts in residential, public and other domestic premises is not allowed. Fences should be solid here.

Application of low voltages

POT RM 016-2001 / RD 153-34.0-03.150-00 "Intersectoral rules on labor protection (safety rules) for the operation of electrical installations" establishes voltage limits for manual current collectors for rooms of various categories.

For especially dangerous rooms:

  • hand tool - voltage up to 50 V;
  • portable lamps - voltage 12 V;
  • miner's lamps - voltage 2,5 V.
  • For hazardous areas:
  • hand tool - voltage 50 V;
  • lamps - voltage 50 V.

If it is impossible to use a voltage of 50 V, it is allowed to use the power tool on U = 220 V in the presence of a residual current device or reliable grounding of the body of the power tool with the obligatory use of protective equipment (gloves, mats).

Safety isolating transformers are used as low voltage sources. The use of autotransformers as low voltage sources for powering portable power tools is prohibited.

Double insulation

With double insulation, in addition to the main working insulation of current-carrying parts, another layer of insulation is used, which covers metal non-current-carrying parts that may be energized. It is possible to manufacture electrical equipment cases from insulating material (plastic, nylon).

The widespread use of double insulation is limited due to the lack of plastics and coatings that are resistant to mechanical damage. Therefore, the scope of double insulation is limited. It is used in electrical equipment of low power (tools, portable current collectors, household appliances).

Protection against loss of attention, orientation and wrong actions

This protection is carried out through the use of interlocks, alarms, special equipment coloring, markings, safety signs.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Europe in sulfuric acid 15.01.2000

Great hopes were pinned on one of the satellites of Jupiter - Europa. Pictures from the US spacecraft "Galileo" showed that the planet is covered by the ocean. On its surface is an ice crust with intersecting cracks. There was an assumption that some primitive life could exist in the depths of the ocean. And some enthusiasts even saw roads or pipelines laid by intelligent beings in the pattern of cracks. Now, however, those hopes appear to have been dashed. The same "Galileo" received infrared spectra, which indicate the presence of fairly concentrated sulfuric acid on Europa.

Selecting in the laboratory various aqueous solutions that give an infrared spectrum closest to that obtained with Galileo, American scientists discovered that a solution of sulfuric acid gives such a picture. Where does it come from?

According to one hypothesis, it is thrown out from the depths of Europe by underwater volcanoes, according to another, sulfur ions come from space, from the neighboring satellite of Jupiter - Io. It has huge volcanoes that emit sulfurous gases. Sulfur ions from Io's upper atmosphere can be picked up by Jupiter's magnetic field and brought to Europa.

As the authors of the discovery point out, if a research probe is sent to Europe, as planned, it will have to be covered with a layer of gold - otherwise the sulfuric acid will corrode.
