A simple and reliable version of the conversion of the domestic heating micromotor TsSTKAM 2,5K into a compression one was developed by the instructor of the Palace of Pioneers of the city of Chelyabinsk I. Yarov. After modifications, the motor obeys even novice modellers. "Diesel" is especially good for performances in the "air combat" class.

Here's what's changed. Instead of a regular cylinder head, a new, easily removable one was used. This allows you to change the gaskets when choosing the volume of the combustion chamber, to switch to the head of the GSK type in the incandescent version. The very same transfer to another type of fuel takes a few minutes - just unscrew the shirt and install one or another insert.

The regular finning of the cylinder jacket is removed. In its place, a thread M21X0,75 or M21X0,6 is cut. When performing this operation, a mandrel is used to ensure the alignment of the cylinder seat and the machined surface. A new shirt is wrapped on the resulting seat. Its material is aluminum alloy type AK-4, D16T or D1.

For the convenience of working with a removable shirt, it is useful to make a key, the spikes of which fit into the slots in its upper end. At the other end of the key plate, a groove is cut for the hexagon of the glow plug body.

The insert for the compression version is machined from AK-4 alloy (in extreme cases, from D16T), the seat for the counter-piston is rubbed on the mating part. The counter-piston is brass (LS-59), to increase the resource after grinding, the working surface is chrome-plated.

The counter-piston fitted to the insert should sit in place from strong hand pressure or under light blows of a 25 g hammer. Passing gases through this interface is unacceptable, otherwise all the advantages of the micromotor will be nullified. With careful execution, the converted TsSTKAM 2,5K motors in the compression version significantly exceed the well-known KMD-2,5 even of early production in their characteristics.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

The clatter of keys as a personal mark 26.09.2006

American scientists have come up with a new way to identify computer users.

Thirteen years ago, Dr. Marcus Brown of the University of Alabama, together with his graduate student, came up with a system for identifying a person by his handwriting while working at the keyboard. For this, a neural network program was compiled, which not only very accurately measures the time intervals that a person spends pressing and releasing a key, but also knows how to draw the appropriate conclusions.

Scientists patented this method and successfully forgot about it. However, in 2004, the Center for Technology Commercialization appeared at the university.

"We want to ensure that university staff are confident that even the most significant result will be noticed and appreciated, and more than once" - this is how the university's vice president for research, Dr. Keith McDowell, formulated the main slogan of the center. In full accordance with this idea, the staff of the center managed to find buyers for the patent of Marcus Brown, and he, along with his former student, received $ 15 each.

"Honestly, I never imagined that the idea that we were engaged in as entertainment, could bring such a significant result," - says the scientist.
