Siemens C35i

When I asked for a C35i, I received a small light box with a phone inside. On the front side of the box, a close-up of the phone model was shown, and its name was written on top. It immediately became clear what was inside. Everything is very simple, but with taste ...

Looking into the box, in addition to the device itself, I found a battery, a charger and instructions in Russian, which was especially nice.

Having written the word "instructions" in the plural, I was not mistaken, because there are actually two of them. One is complete, with a fairly sensible and detailed description of all the functions of the phone, and the other is short, on six pages, describing only the main, most important functions. So, if you are too lazy to go into the Talmud for explanations, then you can look in a much more compact copy. However, in my opinion, this does not save much time, but it makes more sense when you use a complete guide to action. But back to the phone itself...

It seemed to me that the design of this device is equally well suited for both men and women. In appearance, it is strict, elegant and very ergonomic. The phone has a curved shape, and due to the convex stripes on the cover that covers the battery, it just fits perfectly in your hand. This is also facilitated by the small dimensions of the device (118x46x21 mm). When you take the phone, it seems that someone made a cast of your hand, and then specially cast the shape of the handset for it. It hurts so well she lies! The most interesting thing is that the size of your hand itself does not play a special role, well, unless, of course, you have the palms of a baby or a supergiant. And, given that the device does not weigh that much (about 110g), representatives of both sexes are equally comfortable with it.

Perhaps the black color of the case gave more severity to my phone. But it should be noted that these models are also available in other more cheerful colors, for example, green, blue, yellow. A total of 6 colors are available. This is what anyone likes...

The battery of this device, frankly, is not the best. Nickel-metal hydride batteries (500 mAh) are included as standard. However, the phone can work up to 180 hours in standby mode and up to 5 hours in talk mode. With enough active use of the phone, the battery lasted me for a couple of days. This is taking into account conversations (about 15-20 minutes a day), as well as constant access to the menu in order to listen to melodies, then look at pictures, then get into the Internet (WAP), or even just play toys. A full charge of the battery took about 1.5 - 2 hours.

The charger of the Siemens C35i is not particularly remarkable. Rather, a very unusual function of this model attracts attention - "battery care", the meaning of which is to extend the life of the battery. When the battery life starts to decrease, you can connect this phone to the charger and enable this feature. Then a full discharge and then a full charge of the battery is carried out, which eliminates the memory effect and restores the battery life. In time, this procedure may take 3-5 hours, depending on the condition of the battery.

First start

Inserting the SIM card into the holder, I turned on the phone. Despite the fact that the holder turned out to be plastic, the SIM card was securely fastened, as it was additionally fixed in the slots of the phone. A design similar to a sliding drawer in a table. Nothing new…

After switching on, the phone showed a nice animated screensaver made in the form of a blinking beacon and a welcome inscription. The good news is that everything can be changed. In this model, unlike just the C35, there are three pretty screensavers to choose from. In addition to the lighthouse, you can choose a dog that catches a bone, or an igniting I&C sign. The welcome line is also being edited. Although only English or another European language is available.

I’ll say a few words about the Russification of this phone right away. It is executed quite competently, the translations are understandable, you do not need to think for a long time what is meant by the name of a particular function. The only, perhaps, a small drawback, which, however, you quickly get used to, is the use of only capital letters in the names. When the menu item "Capital letters" is enabled, the font is enlarged several times, and the name of only one function starts to be displayed. Honestly, it looks terribly scary. I want the letters to decrease, and they become even larger. One gets the impression that in all other languages there are lowercase letters, but in Russian they are absent.

Unfortunately, all entries can only be made in Latin, Cyrillic is available only when receiving SMS messages.

After a quick registration on the network, the phone beeped and displayed the name of the mobile operator, signal strength (5 bars), battery charge level (4 bars), date, time, and at the bottom - hints for the top keyboard buttons that allow you to control the Menu. You can determine the purpose of the top left button yourself. It serves either to quickly enter some point (for example, the Internet, Games, etc.) or to quickly dial a phone number.

The display itself is graphic, high-contrast. It allows you to display up to 5 lines of text with 16 characters each. Fonts can dynamically change their sizes. The screen, of course, is not very large, but it is enough ...

The backlight is a soft green color that does not hurt the eyes. When turned off, it does not immediately go out abruptly, as in many other models, but slowly and smoothly, which is very nice.

Hello Hello…

Before I even had time to properly set up the phone, the first bell rang. After talking, I was satisfied. It sounded good, no echo, maybe just a little noise, but it wasn't annoying.

With further use of the device, there were also no particular complaints about the quality of communication, except for reception in the car. The phone caught well even in places with poor reception, although there were some failures, of course, but when talking in a car, it began to act up in earnest, up to a disconnection. I can't complain about the sound quality in the speaker. In noisy crowded places it was easy to talk without much straining. Subjectively, I would rate the sensitivity of the device as average or even above average.

From the unpleasant, I can add that the device, rarely, but there are some oddities. A couple of times it turned off spontaneously. And when I turned it on, the date and time settings were knocked down. Having sinned specifically on my device, I decided to talk with other happy owners of this model, and found out that other devices sometimes suffer from this.

Making phone calls is a pleasure. The buttons are small, with a rubber coating, well located. Therefore, pressing them is not difficult. Fingers themselves fall on the desired keys.

During a call, it is possible to use a lot of functions such as adjusting the sound volume in the speaker, mute the microphone, alternate conversation on two lines, and others. Sometimes it is very convenient, and sometimes it is quite useless. So, in my opinion, for example, the function of displaying the time or cost of a call specifically in this menu is not entirely appropriate. While you use it, skip what the interlocutor on the other end of the wire says, because in order to get into this menu and look at the time, you will inevitably have to tear the handset away from your ear, because this model does not have a speakerphone function. And then, while you say goodbye, some more time will still pass, and the figure that you saw will already change. In short, the deep meaning of the whole idea did not reach me ...

Selecting a ringtone

Having finally seized the moment to play around with the phone settings, the first thing I did was to change the tone of the call, since the default one didn’t really inspire me. A total of 21 melodies were available. They all seem very tall to me. Therefore, although among the proposed options were not bad, I still preferred to write down my own. By the way, it turned out very well ... I recorded my call through the melody editor, just by myself, choosing the notes and the duration of their sound, but you can get the finished melody via SMS from another phone or by downloading it from the Internet.

In this model, you can also set your own melody for SMS messages, for VIP calls and for an alarm clock. The main thing is not to confuse which means which ...

The ringtone itself is very loud. The dead will wake up! It is well heard even in very noisy places. But I can’t say anything good about the vibrating alert. It is almost not felt even if you wear the phone on yourself ...

For convenience, the phone has several profiles that remember the individual settings for certain functions. You can change the ringer tone, turn off or turn on the vibration signal, set the desired volume, etc. Three factory profiles are available - "Normal", "Silence" and "Noise", but you can create your own. Thus, if you find yourself in a place where it is impossible or not decent to make noise (theater, etc.), then you can turn on the "Silence" profile. Then the volume of all calls automatically becomes minimal, the vibrating alert is turned on, and when scrolling through the menu, even light clicks disappear, indicating that you have moved to the next menu item. So you don't disturb anyone.

Everything for comfort

The Siemens C35i developers made sure that the phone could be used not only as a communication device, but also to perform a number of other functions. So, purchasing one handset, in addition, you get an alarm clock, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a calculator (not available in Siemens C35), a currency converter, a calendar with reminders (30 entries), electronic games, etc. In general, a lot of interesting and entertaining things ...

An alarm clock and a calendar with reminders (the "Meetings" item) are almost the same thing. Although there are two different menu items for them, in the end you will still find yourself in a common submenu. Lots of alarm settings. It can remind you of something daily, weekly and even yearly (like birthdays).

Toys are great for killing time and draining batteries. There are four of them: "Labyrinth", "Reversi", "Quattropoli" and "Sapper". Perhaps, of course, I did not have enough spatial imagination, but "Labyrinth" did not impress me. "Reversi" and "Quattropoli" - logical toys to fill in the cells. When there is nothing to do, it's quite ... "Sapper" - the usual minks from Microsoft. You can play them, but only for a person with very good eyesight, who is not afraid to spoil it. On the display of the phone, the cells look microscopic, and for some reason a magnifying glass is not included in the kit. Maybe if the screen was bigger, everything would not be so tragic, but, alas ...

I found a timer that counts the total time of conversations, but after a long search. For some reason, it was in the menu "Time / Fee" - "Set up tariff" - "Cost".

Work with SMS-messages is facilitated to a minimum. In addition to the T9 system, which simplifies text input if you write in English or German, and complicates it if you type Russian words in English letters, the phone has 3 more message templates. When sending messages, you can also insert graphics. In total, there are 25 cute images in the database.

The device is also equipped with a built-in modem and WAP browser (version 1.1). With WAP, you can easily surf the Internet and get the latest information.

In general, the phone is very convenient. It is pleasant to work with the menu, it is controlled by only two keys, it is built quite logically. There is a hint point where brief explanations of the most important functions are given. The menu size is also adjustable. You can use an abbreviated version with basic functions, or you can use a complete one. Everything is done to increase user comfort. And so that it is not boring, each main menu item is equipped with some kind of animation. So, for example, next to the inscription "Hints" you can see a drop-down book, and next to the item "Settings" - a hammer that hammers nails ...

Notebook

Getting into the phone book is very simple and easy. This can be done by pressing just one button with a picture of a book. Pressing it again opens the VIP section of the records. This includes, for example, the people you call most often and whose phones you need quick access to.

Using the phone book is very convenient. The required number can be found either by leafing through the book, or by using the search system by name (by the first letter).

In total, up to 100 phone numbers can be stored in the phone book (not including the SIM card memory). Up to 10 numbers can be assigned for speed dialing. The phone also automatically remembers the last 10 incoming calls, 10 outgoing calls and the last 10 remaining unanswered calls with ring time recording. You can view this entire list in the "Protocols" menu.

A new entry in the phone book can be added not only in standby mode, but also during a conversation, which again is very convenient, since you do not need to waste time looking for a pen and paper.

You can also add small icons with pictures to your entries in the phone book. A small but pleasant trifle, which is absent even in the more expensive Siemens S35 model. What is original is that you can add to the record not only a picture from the database (10 pieces), but also draw a "schematic portrait" of the subscriber. To compile such a kind of identikit, you can use 9 elements. When a call rings, if the "Caller ID" service is available, the display shows the name of the subscriber (an entry in your telephone directory) and a nice picture assigned to him. All recordings with graphics are stored only in the phone's memory.

Conclusion

If someone asked me to express my opinion about the Siemens C35i in a few words, I would most likely put the word "convenient" as the first number. It is really comfortable to hold; it is convenient to call on it; comfortable to talk without interference. Further, perhaps, I will not list. For a long time ... And the second word would be - "pleasant". Nice design, nice menu, a lot of nice pictures and animations. You can also add the word "functional", for a complete presentation.

Of course, there are shortcomings, and some of them may even seem very significant. This is, first of all, the presence of only a nickel-metal hydride battery as standard, not very good communication in the car, a frail vibrating alert, an insufficiently large screen and a number of other smaller ones.

But in general, the impression of this device is very favorable. In the presence of a mass of advantages, all the shortcomings smoothly fade into the background. In addition, we must not forget that this model belongs to the devices of the middle class.

Average price with good quality. This phrase was the answer to my question, which I asked at the beginning. Probably, it is for this that Russian buyers fell in love with Siemens.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Squid from the Ross Sea 10.07.2003

New Zealand fishermen caught a female giant squid Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni on the surface of the Ross Sea off the coast of Antarctica. The length of the still not quite adult mollusk is 5 meters, weight - 150 kilograms.

This is only the second whole specimen of this species that scientists came across (there were also finds of individual fragments in the stomachs of whales that feed on squid). The species lives at depths of up to two kilometers, it is an aggressive predator that can be dangerous for humans. The tentacles of the squid are studded with hooks as sharp as knives, the mouth is equipped with a powerful beak that tears the victim to shreds.

Until now, it was not known that a giant squid can hunt near the surface of the water, where it is able to meet a person (although it is unlikely that many of us would think of swimming off the coast of Antarctica). The mollusk was caught in the net when chasing a two-meter fish.
