PHILIPS AZALIS. Mobile phone review Review Firstly, with rather large dimensions (130x40x26 mm), the phone is light, only 100 grams, which is probably why it seems hollow - the impression is very pleasant. Azalis 288 is available in three colors: blue, brown and gray. Moreover, only the front part of the phone, or rather the keyboard and sidewalls, are painted in these colors, all other surfaces are silvery. The back of the phone is entirely made of black plastic. The phone keyboard is made of the same material; The size of the keys personally seemed to me optimal. Opening the back cover, behind which the battery compartment is hidden, we will see that the battery is attached to the phone using a special connector. This design is quite unusual, but extremely reliable, since the backlash of the battery does not affect the quality of the contact. The battery itself is fixed with several holders in the groove. Below it is a SIM-card holder, made in the same way as on other phones of this company. Its device does not imply frequent changing of the SIM-card (it is painfully inconvenient!), but, on the other hand, it securely fixes the card in one position. Let's get back to the battery. A slim 550 mAh lithium-ion battery is supplied as standard. According to the manufacturer, it can work up to 6 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby time. Before taking the phone for testing, I thought that these figures were greatly exaggerated, but, to my surprise, they turned out to be close to the truth. With 15-20 minutes of calls per day, the phone worked for about 4 days, and I used most of its functions. Even many business-class models cannot boast of such a result. The time to fully charge the battery is just over an hour. The Azalis 288 graphic display can display up to 5 lines of text and is backlit orange like the keys. In sunlight, they are clearly distinguishable, except for the navigation key, painted in silver - the icons merge on it. So, in standby mode, the display shows the name of the mobile operator, time (analogue or digital clock), date, indicators of signal strength, battery charge, vibration mode, etc. The screen supports two font sizes set in the menu (the function is called Zoom). You can adjust the screen contrast. In order to enter the menu, just press the navigation key down to where it says OK. A long press of the same key activates voice dialing or voice commands associated with menu items. I want to say right away that in addition to 10 voice tags for phones, the same number of tags are provided for accessing menu items or performing them, in particular, turning on the silent mode. The label is set up very simply - it is enough to pronounce it twice. The voice is recognized perfectly, even in noisy places; there is an interesting feature that allows you to rewrite the voice for a specific label. Unfortunately, the Russian-language instruction included in the kit is made very badly: not only the printing industry let us down, but also the description of most functions. If this phone is the first cellular from Philips, then in some places you will have to break your head a lot. It's a pity, because the phone is not bad. The menu itself is organized on the principle of a carousel, that is, using the left and right arrows, the icons scroll in a circle. To select a menu item, just press the OK key; the transition to a higher level is carried out by pressing the C key. There is no quick menu navigation, but it is possible to assign individual functions and menu items to 8 shortcut keys. It is with this list that voice tags are associated. On my own, I would add that the menu is well structured, it is hard to get used to it, but then it seems very convenient. Menu icons deserve special mention: they are made with humor and are simply beautiful. Let's move on to the main functions. The phone provides lists of the last 10 missed, 10 dialed and 10 received calls with date and time. When you press the send call key, it is not the general list that is displayed, but only the last dialed number, in order to view the entire list, you need to press the left arrow. The phone book is quite traditional, called with the right arrow. Pressing a letter key moves the list to the first name beginning with that letter. For each recorded number, you can set its type, and then the list next to the name will display a phone, fax or icon symbolizing data transfer. However, only one number can be set per name. All phones are stored in the SIM card memory. The Messages menu allows you to read and send SMS, of course there is no Cyrillic support. There are 10 English SMS templates and about 50 icons that can be sent to another Philips phone that supports this feature. You can also send a melody in the short message format. The organizer in Azalis 288 is very convenient: almost any event is configured, and a warning can be set in such a way that it works with some lead. This event can be repeated daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. As a full-fledged organizer, none of the presented phones can be considered, nevertheless, they can be used for reminders, the same is in this case. It is possible to view events using a separate list or by dates from the calendar. I really didn’t like that setting the repeat leads to the multiplication of events, i.e. for each day the list displays the same event with the same title, but with a different date - it becomes difficult to navigate in this maelstrom of events. The phone has a calculator and a currency converter. The alarm clock is quite common, it can be configured both for a single operation and for a weekly mode with or without days off. The arkanoid game could be interesting, but it's too small, it becomes hard to play after 5 minutes: everything blurs before your eyes. The last thing worth noting is the presence of a voice recorder that allows you to record one message up to 20 seconds long (but not during a conversation). WAP-browser version 1.1 is configured and works without problems. Conclusions The sensitivity of Azalis 288 is slightly above average, in urban conditions this is more than enough. In some areas, the phone can give odds to more advanced and expensive models. The volume of the speaker is sufficient both in a quiet room and on a noisy street. The vibrating alert is well felt from a jacket pocket, but not outerwear. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a holster case for this model due to the thickening at the top of the phone. You can look for a universal case in which the device will look very good. The phone memory stores 19 melodies and ring tones, you can also record 3 of your own melodies.
