NOKIA 8910

The relatively small size of the device (103 - 140,5 x 46 x 20 mm) fits comfortably in the hand, but when compared with the 8850, it turns out that the new model is slightly larger. At the same time, the weight of the phone is 110 grams, which, of course, is extremely uncharacteristic for a fashion class device, but this is the price for a case made almost entirely of titanium (the only plastic insert that hides the antenna is located at the top back). The thickness of the case is such that it is not afraid of falling even from a great height; you need to be afraid for the safety of the electronics or the screen - the case, most likely, will not receive not only significant damage, but even any noticeable scratches.

Another unique solution is the opening mechanism of the phone. There are two keys on the side faces of the device, when pressed simultaneously, the phone "shoots" up (closing is done manually) - undoubtedly, an effective solution, especially for a fashion device, which should attract the eyes of others. The disadvantages include the fact that if the device is in a shirt pocket, the above-described keys are sometimes spontaneously pressed, opening the phone. In this case, the internal keys may be accidentally pressed despite the activation of the manual keypad lock function.

On the right, there is an IR port window, merging with the edging and almost invisible.

The keyboard of the Nokia 8910 is chrome-plated. Under the screen are the keys to send a call, hang up, scroll, and two soft keys. All of them are very easy to use, which, unfortunately, cannot be said about the numeric keypad, the bottom row of which is pressed with difficulty, since the finger constantly touches the upper edge of the case. In principle, this is not the biggest problem, since you will only use the bottom row keys if there is a "0" in the dialed phone number. Above the numbers in two rows there are designations, the first row is the Russian layout, the second is the Latin one. Small letters are not always clearly visible. In the dark, you will have to navigate by touch, since only the central row is highlighted, and the lettering is not visible. In complete darkness, you can dial a phone number, but not an SMS message, unless, of course, you learn how to use the keyboard blindly.

The 8910 display displays up to 4 lines of text and labels for soft keys, has a soft blue backlight (Pastel Blue). Information on the screen is well read both in the dark and in sunlight.

The battery is hidden behind the back cover, which is removed by pressing a small latch (in the open state) located at the top left. It is better to do this with the tip of a pen or some sharp object, although with a certain dexterity you can manage to press with your finger. Pulling out the back panel, you will see the BLB-2 battery, which is well known to users of older devices, in particular Nokia 8210. This is a 750 mAh lithium-ion battery, which, according to the manufacturer, can provide from 100 to 300 hours of standby time and from 2 to 4 hours of talk time. In the conditions of Moscow networks, the phone worked in one case for 5 days (40 minutes of calls, daily use of the alarm clock and reminders, playing up to an hour), in the second - 2 days (2 hours of calls, an alarm clock). These are very good results, and they can only be explained by the fact that the engineers managed to significantly reduce the power consumption of the device, as a result of which it became possible to use not a lithium-polymer, but a lithium-ion battery of the specified capacity. The time to fully charge the battery is just over 2 hours.

Menu

The Nokia 8910 provides a gentleman's set of functions similar to those presented in other models from this manufacturer.

Games

The phone has four games: Snake II, Pairs II, Bantumi and Snowboarding. All of them are familiar to users of previous Nokia models. It is possible to connect to games-services, for which you need to get an identification number on the Nokia website - and go ahead (but not for Russia, no matter how sorry!).

Calculator

standard calculator.

Cases

The title of this item could be translated as a to-do list. The user is prompted to enter up to 30 cases, writing down a small explanatory text for each of them (up to 50 characters) and setting the priority (high, low, standard). An entry from the to-do list can be transferred to the calendar if desired, which is very convenient.

The calendar

The phone's memory allows you to save from 100 to 250 calendar notes (depending on the amount of accompanying text). For each entry, you can set a warning signal and the degree of relevance (automatic deletion of old notes after the period you specify). But you can't view the calendar for a week or a month, as in 6310 - only for a day (apparently, it's a matter of screen resolution). It is impossible to consider the calendar installed in the phone as a full-fledged one, because the monthly view is one of the most frequently used functions in this menu.

IR port

Enable or disable the infrared port.

Bluetooth

In 8910, bluetooth does not work with third party headsets: when trying to connect to an Ericsson phone or a headset from the same manufacturer, the connection fails, although a new entry appears in the list of compatible devices. It was not possible to set the phone to work automatically with other devices, and not everything went smoothly in manual mode either.

Extra

This menu provides access to a voice recorder that allows you to record up to 3 minutes of a conversation (there are no restrictions on the number of recordings, the main thing is not to exceed the set time limit). You can listen to individual recordings, give them names, and finally delete them. To turn on the recorder during a conversation, you need to press the left soft key twice, to stop recording - once on the right; you get used to such management quickly.

Here you can also configure up to 5 voice commands to access individual menu items (which the device itself will offer).

In this menu you will also find a countdown timer and a stopwatch (up to 20 values can be saved individually). At the same time, the countdown timer is not displayed in standby mode (although its icon is present), therefore, to see the current value, you will have to open the corresponding menu.

Wallet functions in this device, unlike 6310, no.

Services

wap-browser version 1.2.1 menu with standard functions. You can configure wap-over-gprs.

Impressions

The sound quality of the Nokia 8910 does not cause any complaints: the voice is heard well, there are no failures in communication - this is a solid device. The speaker has a large volume margin, but during a call you can only adjust it with the scroll keys (there are no similar keys on the side!), Which is not very convenient. The phone has a traditional Nokia set of 35 tones and melodies; the sound volume can be described as average - the same as in all the latest models from Nokia. The vibrating alert, despite the titanium case, is felt, and in general, even not bad.

You should be aware of some features of the device that appear when receiving incoming calls. Opening the phone and bringing it to your ear, remember that, being open, the device continues to ring for a couple more seconds - wait a bit. Further, it is impossible to reject a call without opening the phone, since all the keys are hidden. Therefore, the automatic answer when opening will most likely have to be turned off - otherwise, you will have to perform miracles of tightrope walking to reject the call.

In general, the phone leaves an ambiguous impression. On the one hand, there are a number of inconveniences and shortcomings (bluetooth), on the other hand, on the street or at a party, you will certainly attract attention to yourself, and all thanks to this device: it opens up very unusually! In this model, the idea of a fashion phone is brought to its logical conclusion (at the same time, the case cover looks more like plastic than metal).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The molecular mechanism of hibernation in mammals has been discovered 25.02.2024

An international team of scientists has unraveled the molecular processes underlying hibernation in a variety of animal species, including both small and large mammals. The study found that the muscle contraction protein myosin plays a key role in the process of thermogenesis during hibernation, when heat is generated independently of muscle activity. In small mammals, cellular energy consumption increases in response to cold, allowing them to maintain core body temperature without shivering. In contrast, large mammals do not show such changes.

Studying the molecular mechanisms of hibernation in animals allows us to better understand how they adapt to temperature changes and maintain vital functions during periods of reduced activity. The results obtained open new horizons for biological research aimed at studying the adaptation of animals to changing environmental conditions.

Small animals that hibernate experience long periods of low metabolism known as torpor. They are able to increase body temperature during periods of awakening, restoring physiological functions. In large mammals the situation is different: body temperature remains constant during hibernation. Skeletal muscles, which make up the majority of the mass of large mammals, play an important role in the regulation of heat production and energy metabolism, but the mechanisms of hibernation are not yet fully understood.

Scientists have found that changes in the state of myosin may be associated with reduced energy consumption during hibernation. The study was conducted on the muscles of small and large mammals, revealing significant differences in response to cold and activity. However, analysis of phosphorylation of the Myh2 protein showed that changes are associated with torpor in small mammals, while in large mammals such processes are not observed, probably due to stable body temperature during hibernation.

These discoveries highlight the complexity of animals' adaptation to changes in temperature and the body's needs during hibernation, which opens new perspectives for studying the molecular basis of this phenomenon.
