Review
Actually, before describing the functions of the phone, I would like to elaborate on the design. Since the Nokia 6210 is primarily a business device, the design is made accordingly. The phone looks strictly, balanced and restrained. Small in volume (95 cc) and easily fits into a jacket pocket (129.5x47.3x18.8 mm). The weight of the phone with a standard battery is about 114 g, and when using a thin battery, only 100 g. The phone fits comfortably in the hand and it is pleasant to talk on it. In total, Nokia 6210 is available in three colors - blue-black, gray-green and red. No additional front panels are provided for the device, but this is understandable. The body color is "chameleon" - that is, the color shade changes depending on the lighting. Curious fact. Last summer, the design of the phone was tested in Italy, where users are very influenced by fashion and often change cell phones. The design of the device was approved, and people only appreciated the design and were not aware of the capabilities of the device. One of the questions asked what kind of people this device is aimed at and the majority answered that serious users. That is, even the design is focused on business users. Similar testing took place in Germany. In Moscow, during testing, I showed this device to many people. The design of the Nokia 6210 evoked only pleasant feelings in the majority, and then there were questions about the inside of the device and its functionality. Contents of delivery The phone comes with a standard battery, a user manual in Russian and a travel charger. Everything is very simple and tasteful. Unfortunately, in my kit, the instructions were not printed, but this is understandable, since the phone is not yet on sale and this sample is one of several available in Moscow. I forgot to mention that the instructions are in English. As usual, all actions with the phone are described in great detail in the manual and there are no questions about using the device. To be honest, I looked into the instructions only out of curiosity, what is written inside, since the phone is very easy to use and there were no difficulties. The Nokia representative office in Moscow reported that the phones officially delivered to Moscow will be completed with instructions in Russian. The standard battery is the back panel of the phone, while it is located in the grooves of the phone case and when closed, the latch snaps into place. Simple and reliable system. Most of all, I liked that the back wall of the battery is not flat, but has a relief. According to the technical characteristics, the standard battery also looks good. Lithium-ion battery 900 mAh, which allows the phone to work in standby mode from 55 to 260 hours, and in talk mode from 2.5 to 4.5 hours. Practical tests have shown that when using the phone for up to 25 minutes a day, it is really possible to spend three days with it. The battery is very powerful. If someone decides to sacrifice battery capacity for a lighter phone weight (by 14g), then you can install the BPS1 slim battery. This is Nokia's first lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 650 mAh. Of course, the operating time of the phone from such a battery is reduced, but the possibility of using the phone without recharging for several days will remain. It should be noted that the presence of a high-capacity battery (standard) bundled with the phone is a big plus, and the situation with the competitors of this device is somewhat worse. Functions Nokia 6210 does not have any fundamentally new features. But at the same time, the device combines all the best from other models. This phone combines Nokia's developments over the past two years. So, in particular, support for eGSM and voice dialing was borrowed from the 88 series, transfer of picture messages to Nokia phones from Nokia 3210, support for WAP from 7110, and for the first time in wearable mobile phones in Nokia 6210 data transfer speed in switched networks up to 43.2 Kbps became possible. /c (requires a special card, not included in the standard package). Let's take a closer look at the phone itself. The SIM card holder is made in such a way that one edge of the card is clamped by a sliding metal plate, and the other is covered with a plastic ledge. Unfortunately, moving the metal plate to fix the card is not very convenient, but the card is held in the slot very firmly. The phone's power button is separate and is located next to the IR port window at the top of the phone. The button is made tight and pressing it requires a certain effort, I think that accidental pressing during use does not threaten. To turn the phone on and off, in addition, the button must be pressed for a little over a second. When the phone is turned on, it shows a branded screensaver from Nokia. You can also customize the welcome message in both English and Russian. The inconvenience in this case is that when typing a message, Cyrillic characters come first, and then only the Latin alphabet. On the keyboard, respectively, only Latin characters are applied. After switching on, the display shows the name of the mobile operator company, the battery charge indicator (5 divisions), the signal strength indicator (5 divisions), the clock and the inscriptions for the keys on the phone Menu and Names (access to the menu and address book, respectively). The display is large, high-contrast with a resolution of 95 x 60 pixels. The backlight is green, in the dark the information on the display and keys is clearly visible. This model has a proprietary menu from Nokia. It is thought out to the smallest detail and makes it easy to navigate the points. Each menu item and sub-item has its own number; thus, this hierarchical menu is easy to navigate and each item is unique. For example, the clock setting item is the digital number 4-2-2, or sequentially, Menu - Options - Clock. Knowing the numerical sequence of the desired menu, you can easily access it by typing numbers on the keypad. (Setting should be done by pressing Menu first). Working with the menu on Nokia phones is not difficult, and you quickly get used to the logic of placing items. After Nokia, the menus on devices from other manufacturers seem confusing and complicated. The main menu has only 10 items and each has its own animated icon. Very nice and pleasant. I don’t know about other people, but I immediately climb on the new phone to listen to the call options. This phone is no exception. There are several configurations available in the Modes menu item, namely Normal, Silent, Meeting, Outdoor, Pager, Headphones. These are the so-called profiles, i.e. phone settings for different environments. Each profile can be customized by you to your own taste. You can choose the volume of the call, the melody, whether the vibrating alert will be turned on simultaneously with the sound signal. For example, when you enter a clinic or other public place, you either turn off the phone or turn on the vibrator, or maybe just mute the ringer volume. Nokia 6210 allows you to turn on any profile in almost two taps, you just need to press the phone on / off button (do not hold it for a long time if you do not want to turn off the phone) and you will see a list of profiles from which you can select the one you need. The ringer volume can be adjusted in 5 positions, you can also set the ringer to increase or decrease in volume. If you carry your phone in your pocket, then the vibrating alert feels very good. But back to the melodies. You can choose a melody from 35 presets. It is also possible to receive a melody via SMS from another phone or an Internet server that provides such a service. Sensitivity and speech quality For all the time of use, this phone showed itself only from the best side. There were no communication failures as such, the effect of echo, hissing and other troubles during the conversation was not observed. In fairness, it should be noted that there were such effects a couple of times, but I attributed them to network congestion. Against the general background, these several times simply disappear. As every time in the reviews, I will make a reservation that the sensitivity was not specifically measured, but the assessment was made while using the phone in Moscow. We can say that the sensitivity is average and at the level of Nokia 8210 and Nokia 6150. But the average sensitivity from Nokia is the trouble-free operation of the device almost everywhere. My personal opinion is that this device fulfills its main task, namely, providing high-quality communication for five plus. The sound in the speaker during a conversation is natural and soft. I was expecting this phone to have a system similar to the one on the Nokia 8210 and include a slight hiss of the speaker during a call. But maybe it is, I didn't notice it. Phone book Nokia 6210 has a large phone book that allows you to store up to 500 phone numbers in the phone's memory in addition to the memory available on the SIM card. When storing a name in the phone memory, you can save up to 3 numbers with two test fields (for example, e-mail, address of residence or just a note) or a name with three numbers and one text field with it. For additional numbers, you can select the phone type, namely home, mobile, work, fax, or general. Accordingly, each type of phone has its own icon. It is also possible to store numbers in the SIM card memory, as well as operations for copying numbers between the phone and card memory and vice versa. The phone book is accessed through the Names item. Here you can set up the view of numbers in the phone book, so you can see only the names of subscribers, the name and number, and the list of names. I opted for the option when the phone shows the name and number of the subscriber. There is also the ability to view the number of empty memory cells. Up to 10 numbers can be assigned for speed dialing and 10 numbers can be dialed by voice command (activated by long pressing the Names key). This function works well even in very noisy and crowded places. For each number from the phone book, a group of subscribers can be selected and the type of sound signal and priorities can be set accordingly. From the phonebook, a contact can be transferred to another Nokia phone via infrared or by a simple call. These functions are also accessed via the menu. There is also the possibility of sending pictures to Nokia phones, initially there are 10 pictures, but you can add your own and also save the received ones. To date, already 7 phones from Nokia support this function, which allows you to work comfortably with it. In addition to graphic messages, the menu item Messages - Templates also contains text blanks. They are in English, but very simple and clear, for example, "Please call". When sending SMS messages (more precisely, typing them), you can use predictive text input based on T9 technology. Unfortunately, the T9 dictionary is only for English. At the same time, it is possible to receive SMS messages in Russian. Nokia PC Data Suite for this model is expected soon. Then it will be possible to easily write messages on the computer and then send them. Communication with a computer can be carried out both using the IR port, and through a cable that already exists in a proprietary version. Accordingly, with this software, it will be possible to edit the phone book on a PC, which is incomparably more convenient than trying to enter many contacts from the keyboard. A cord may, however, be needed today to use this phone as a modem connected to a PC. The data transfer rate (without an additional adapter) is 14400 bps, which is more than enough for cellular networks. WAP browser version 1.1 makes it easy to navigate among WAP resources. The settings do not cause problems and are quite simple. All sorts of amenities The phone has an alarm that will wake you up even when the phone is off. At the same time, until you turn it off, it will continue to wake you up at certain intervals. Unfortunately, you cannot set a melody for the alarm, there is only one signal. When the alarm clock is running, the inscription "Rise" appears on the screen and bells run along it. The inscription Doze also appears, then the alarm clock will work again after a while if you press the corresponding key. The built-in calendar (up to 220 notes) can remind you of an event at a specified time. The disadvantage is the difficulty of entering large texts. Therefore, notes in the calendar are too concise. Ability to view notes by day or week. You can remind yourself of an important call, event, meeting and something else. In this case, you can set a warning signal for 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes before the event. The time interval can also be set manually. The phone has a standard set of games:
A calculator and currency converter can help in the absence of a full-fledged calculator. My personal opinion is that the calculator and currency converter are inconvenient to use and lose a lot to any calculator. Accessories for this model are suitable for 51 and 61 series phones. The compatibility of most accessories is extremely convenient, as they are widely represented on the market and there will be no difficulty in finding them. For men, we can recommend leather cases for carrying the phone on the belt. Almost any case fits this phone, and cases made for the 6150 can also be used with this model. Conclusion There are no shortcomings in this model as such. The biggest drawback can be considered the price, but there's nothing you can do about it. Uninteresting games and an inconvenient calculator, as well as the inconvenience of entering texts on the phone, I personally do not attribute to shortcomings. The telephone is primarily a means of communication, and not a tool for bookkeeping and recording important thoughts. But this is my opinion. A standard battery allows you to recharge the phone for a very long time, while the weight of the device with it is only 114 grams, which is quite acceptable.
