NOKIA 3410. Mobile phone review
Review
As standard, the model comes in a greenish-gray color variant, which is better to see "live" than in the photo. The glossy bezel of the screen made of white plastic looks, in my opinion, quite cheap. But for the first time in an entry-level model, the keyboard is completely made of rubber, not plastic, so pressing the keys is now a pleasure. When creating the keyboard, the designers used a rather unusual solution - they combined all the numeric keys into horizontal rows (it looks, of course, unusual, but it does not interfere with work at all). The backlighting of the keyboard is green, and the keys are illuminated in their entirety, so the characters printed in black are clearly visible. Display backlight of the same green color; The screen itself is quite traditional in terms of performance technology. It displays up to 3 lines of text of 14 characters each, as well as a title bar and labels for soft keys. It seemed to me that the fonts have changed a little (Russian - for sure), in the new model they have become more elegant. However, in standby mode, the screen still only shows 4 bars of the charge level indicator and 4 bars of the signal strength indicator. At the top there is an on/off button for the phone, which is also designed for quick profile changes; to the right of it is a hole for a strap (not included in the delivery set). At the bottom there is a standard interface connector. The back cover can be removed easily - just pull it up (I remind you that in 3310 and 3330 this procedure caused difficulties: the panel was very tight). Under the cover are the SIM card holder and the battery. The design itself has not changed one iota, but the battery is different - BLC-1, a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 825 mAh. According to the manufacturer, from a single charge, the phone should work from 55 to 260 hours in standby mode and from 2 hours 20 minutes. until 4 o'clock 10 min. in talk mode. In the conditions of the Moscow Beeline network, the phone functioned for 3 days with a total talk time of 45 minutes, using an alarm clock and games (up to 30 minutes in total). As you can see, this device shows a good operating time, which is generally typical for the latest models from Nokia. The time to fully charge the battery is about 3 hours. Batteries from older models are not suitable for 3410, so the standard BLC-1 can only be replaced by the BLC-2, which has a capacity of 950 mAh. In this case, the gain in operating time will not be very significant - about 10-15 hours. The battery, by the way, is not very tightly fixed in the holder, and if you shake the phone, you will hear a rattling sound. I admit that these are problems of a particular instance, so if later, when the Nokia 3410 goes on sale, someone gets to know it better, share your observations on the battery with me. Three original replacement panels with graphic design are available for this model; their installation does not cause the slightest difficulty (the keyboard remains in place). Menu If in the first part of the review we put forward the thesis that there are no fundamental differences between the Nokia 3410 and its predecessors, then here we will refute this assertion. Of course, the main menu and lists have remained exactly the same: companies are conservative in terms of interface, and to some extent this is correct. So, the submenus are presented in the form of a list of items, quick navigation is provided using digital sequences. The phone has fully implemented Russian-language input, supported by the Russian dictionary T9. Consider the main functions of the Nokia 3410. Phone book No frills, just the essentials - one name per number. The phone memory allows you to save up to 200 numbers, the SIM card memory is also available, and all entered numbers are displayed in the general list. New phones are written to the SIM card or to the device's memory, depending on which type of memory you have chosen in the menu - in some ways, such an implementation is convenient. Only those who are used to duplicating numbers from the phone's memory on the SIM card will not like it, because in this case they will appear in the list at least twice. The 3410 has 8 speed dial keys (2-9). By default, they are assigned the first 8 numbers from the phone book (in previous versions, you had to make all the settings yourself). The phone book does not support caller groups, but you can set personal melodies for individual numbers. Finally, the 3410 has implemented (and very well) the voice dialing function for 8 tags. There is no check for matching labels when writing, so if you write the same label words to different numbers, the last one will be called. Messages The phone supports sending and receiving connected messages up to 459 characters (201 for Russian). There are 8 editable templates in Russian. You can insert emoticons into messages (5 pre-installed and a place for 3 of your own). The phone has 8 icons (all replaceable) that can be sent with short messages, but not via EMS, but via Nokia Smart Messaging. There are also sets of several pictures, some of which can be painted in a simple graphics editor. The handset supports mass messaging, but since there are no groups of subscribers, the implementation of this function is somewhat different from what we are used to. To send a message, you need to activate the Broadcast item and select a subscriber, and then, when the list from the phone book appears again after sending, select the next number, etc. The main thing is that all numbers should be written in the international format (beginning +7), otherwise this function will be useless. In this menu you will also find the SMS-Chat function and settings for receiving broadcast messages. Calls Quite a traditional menu that provides access to lists of the last 10 sent, 10 received and 10 missed calls with the date and time of the call. Here you can get information about the duration of the last call, find out the total time of all outgoing or incoming calls, as well as the total duration of all calls. Modes This is nothing more than profiles (6 in total) that are enabled in this menu or by pressing the power key. For each profile, you can adjust the sound level, vibrating alert, etc. Temporary activation of profiles in this model is not provided. Setting This menu stores all kinds of phone settings, I will note only the most interesting ones. As a screen saver, you can set the image of a clock or one of 22 animated pictures. Also available are the so-called 3D screensavers (5 in total), lovingly called Cartoons in the menu. They didn't make much of an impression on me. Ringer selection is implemented as standard: 13 tones, 21 melodies and 7 empty slots for user-defined melodies (recorded in the built-in editor or downloaded via the Internet). When the battery is disconnected, the phone does not remember the time and date. The time correction function does not help, since the input of new data is required when turned on - this is a clear flaw. And finally, the most interesting thing: the phone has an automatic keypad lock! You can assign a code to it, which will be requested when this function is deactivated. Download Here are collected various sub-items scattered throughout the menu. In particular, from here you can download new pictures, melodies, games through network services. Unfortunately, this is still irrelevant for our country. Reminders A simple to-do list of 10 events, each of which can be set a time signal. Games. Nokia's traditional set of toys: Snake II, Space Impact, Bumper, Bantumi. Additionally, you can install other games written in Java. In particular, I had Link5, one of the variations of tic-tac-toe, in my opinion, not very successful due to the too small size of the playing field. TicTacToe - simple tic-tac-toe with a field of 9 cells. The highlight of this game is that it does not exclude the presence of another person - just indicate his number. KKM is a XNUMXD labyrinth with a monkey jumping around and collecting musical stones. Children will be interested, adults - hardly. Applications This menu provides access to Java applications; the amount of available memory is 150 KB. As an experiment, I set myself a variation of Pacman - see for yourself: another toy. The number of applications is already quite large, the only "but": to download them, you have to call abroad. Extra This menu contains all sorts of things, such as an alarm clock. And now attention! Drumroll! For the first time, Nokia has implemented recurring events - from now on, the alarm signal can be set both for a single operation and for repeating on the days of the week. Everything works great. The calculator, as always, is ascetic. The stopwatch can take intermediate measurements, calculate the result; it is possible to save the received values in the list. The countdown timer, despite its name, counts minutes both backwards and forwards. The settings of the melody synthesizer and the graphic editor are also stored here. Impressions The sound quality of the phone is quite good, speech is reproduced clearly. The volume of the speaker is always enough: the call is perfectly distinguishable even in the noisiest places. In this phone, it is much better than in the latest models from Nokia, for example 6510. Vibrating alert is also on top: the call is clearly felt in the pocket of a light jacket and shirt pocket. Ergonomically, the phone is similar to its predecessor - Nokia 3330, only the keypad and the weight of the device have been positively changed. The undoubted advantage of the Nokia 3410 is the lithium-ion battery, which provides about the same operating time (or even a little more) as the 3330, which is equipped with a more capacious, but nickel-metal hydride battery.
