MOTOROLA V70

It would seem that today all possible variants of a mobile phone device have already been invented and patented. However, Motorola's designers managed to bring to life a fundamentally new design of the device (by the way, it was this company that introduced a clamshell cell phone). Image model Motorola v70 differs from all currently existing phones by opening mechanism called Rotate. The top cover of the phone moves up in the same plane as the body of the device itself - an ambiguous solution, but very original. Opening the phone with one hand, or rather with a finger, is quite inconvenient - you have to connect the other hand. When the cover is closed, you can not talk, but you can reject the call by seeing the number of the caller on the display.

The lid moves with minimal effort, while accidental opening is excluded. The 360-degree rotatable cover in any direction only locks in the 180-degree position, i.e. in the standard state when talking. Turning the lid, you hear a slight click - the latch works. Opening the phone when there is an incoming call automatically starts the conversation.

Many people ask if the opening mechanism of v70 is reliable and if the phone will not deteriorate after six months of active use. I think not: the mechanism leaves a feeling of strength, only the reliability of the structure in the open state raises doubts. The fact is that the plastic cover with a thickness of 3 to 7 mm is attached only around the screen, i.e. the area of its contact with the body is very small. Therefore, when you take the phone in your hands, you will feel a slight play in the top cover, and if the device accidentally falls in the open state, the cover may get irreparable damage.

The ring around the screen can be changed to one of the additional ones available as accessories. At the moment, golden, dark gray and light gray rings are sold on our market.

The display in this model is notable for its shape: it is round. That is, it is, of course, rectangular, but the designers have hidden the corners behind the curves of the case, thus creating a complete illusion of a non-standard screen. The feeling intensifies when you turn on the phone for the first time: the display is inverted. This means that all points of the screen are usually painted in inky (almost black) color, and information is displayed through discolored areas (white letters on a black background). Those. if in ordinary phones what is written on the screen is painted over, then in v70 the opposite is true. Until today, inverted displays have been used in PDAs, but not in cell phones.

The resolution of the screen is not the highest - only 96x64 pixels, which allows you to display three lines of text at the minimum font size and two - at the maximum, as well as a line of icons. It is convenient to work with any font, because the screen is very contrasty, and the information is clearly visible on it. The backlight of the display is dark green, not very bright, but almost always provides comfortable working conditions.

In standby mode, the screen displays indicators of signal strength and battery charge (3 divisions), date and time, the name of the operator's network, as well as an icon of the current call mode. In conclusion, it is worth saying once again that the screen is small: the developers tried to make the phone as compact and light as possible.

Indeed, the height of the device in the closed state is only 94 mm, the overall dimensions of the phone are 94x38x18.3 mm and the weight is 83 grams, which is largely achieved by reducing the weight and size of the battery. The standard lithium-ion battery that comes with the v70 only has a capacity of 430 mAh. According to the manufacturer, on a single charge, the battery should work from 70 to 190 hours in standby mode and from 120 to 190 minutes in talk mode. Real figures are much less. So, in the Moscow Beeline network, the phone functioned for about 2 days with 40 minutes of calls, using reminders and games (15 minutes in total). For a battery of this capacity, these are quite good results, but they cannot be compared with similar characteristics of other modern phones. The time to fully charge the battery is just over an hour.

A larger battery (70 mAh) is also available for the v700, but you will have to buy it separately, besides, this battery, which has a different back cover, increases the thickness of the phone. The back cover, which is part of the case, is made of anodized aluminum, as in the v60 model. Removing the cover reveals the battery and the SIM card holder located above it - not quite a typical Motorola solution, dictated by the desire to miniaturize the phone.

At the bottom end of the device there is an interface connector, at the top - a connector for the supplied headset. Those who wish can replace the standard device with an FM headset, of course, with a surcharge. Finally, on the left side surface there is a key that controls the volume of the call and the speaker (during a call).

The v70 is delivered to Russia in one color version (silver), while the colors of the keyboard backing may vary (light gray and dark blue). The backlight in both cases is blue. The symbols printed next to the keys are not always clearly visible: sometimes the backlight makes it difficult to see them. Plastic chrome-plated keys are separated by a decent distance, but at the same time they are quite small in size. Keyboard comfort is average. On the top cover is a scroll key, similar to the one on the keyboard. When the phone is closed, the keys are connected to each other by means of rubber protrusions. The button on the top panel allows you to view an incoming SMS message without opening the device. On the ring itself under the screen are two soft keys, as well as a key to access the menu.

Menu

It should be noted that v70 supports Russian input, the menu is also localized. Russification is done well: everything is more or less clear, the fonts are drawn well. Separate menu items, however, are cut off, as they do not fit on the screen. Functionally, this model is almost a complete analogue of v66.

The main menu consists of several items, each of which in turn has sub-items. Navigation using digital sequences is not provided, but it is not needed: the menu is well structured and working with it does not cause difficulties. Any menu item can be assigned a shortcut shortcut, to do this, when viewing the desired item, just press the rocker button in the middle. This dialog provides an opportunity not only to assign a shortcut to a specific key (from 1 to 9), but also to create a voice tag. The latter cannot be entered without a key number - so you have a total of 9 shortcuts at your disposal, which is more than enough in my opinion.

From the main menu, you can view and edit the full list of installed tags, and you will see if a voice tag is configured for the shortcut, and if it is, listen to it.

Phone book

The notebook has a capacity of 500 cells. For any name, different types of numbers (home, work, mobile, fax, pager) are indicated, each of which is represented in the phone book by a separate entry. You cannot enter an email address or company name - only phone numbers. You can search through the phone book and sort numbers by sequence numbers of entries in memory, names or voice tags (of which there can be up to 25). The voice dialing function works well, a check for uniqueness (the impossibility of storing two identical labels) is performed.

Recent calls

Call lists are stored in this menu, notable for the fact that you can not only see the time and date of the call, but also find out the duration of the call. Each list (incoming, outgoing) can have up to 10 entries. It's a shame that the same numbers can be entered in a row: for example, if you made 10 unsuccessful attempts to reach Misha's subscriber, then the entire list of outgoing calls will be filled with his name alone.

The Notepad item allows you to enter a phone number right during a call and later save it in the phone book - a rather convenient function.

Diary

The memory of the device is designed for 500 records, for each of which the type, signal response time, number of repetitions are indicated. You can even set the time during which old records will not be deleted - the v70 organizer will suit even the most demanding user. Although, of course, the impossibility of viewing the calendar for a month (there are not enough screen capabilities) is an absolute minus.

Messages

The phone, as already mentioned, has Russian-language input; 10 templates are provided, mass mailing (selection of numbers from the directory or any list). MMS and EMS messages are not supported.

Search system

This is nothing but wap-browser version 1.2.1. There is nothing to talk about in this case: everything is traditional.

Calculator

Nice enough calculator with currency conversion function (one exchange rate).

Games

The games installed in the phone (Blackjack, Puzzle and Squash) seemed rather boring to me. It's hard to kill time with their help, and the screen is too small - you have to peer.

Parameters

This menu contains all phone settings. The most interesting is the ability to sort the main menu items by moving up the most frequently used ones. In addition, you can assign different functions to both soft keys in standby mode. Here you will also find a music editor in which you can record up to 32 melodies. By default, the phone has 32 melodies (including tones) of the call, as well as 5 schemes for vibrating.

Finally, a few words about packet data transfer (GPRS 4+1). In the absence of an infrared port, you can use this function to send short messages and view wap-resources, if you have a cable - also to transfer data to a PC. By the way, among the additional accessories there is TrueSync software that allows you to synchronize organizer and phone book data with a PC.

Impressions

The new product from Motorola has no problems with the quality of communication: the sound in the speaker is clear, the volume is always enough. The ringing of the phone is perfectly audible both outdoors and indoors; the vibrating alert is also pretty good (especially if you take into account the size of this tiny model).

Now about the sad. The phone does not have such a function as an alarm clock, and using reminders from the organizer for this purpose is not always convenient. The phone book, despite the large amount of memory, is quite simple: there is no possibility, for example, to add additional text fields. The standard battery has too little capacity and therefore provides a very short run time. There is no voice recorder, although it would be appropriate in a device of this class. The v70 is identical to the v66 in terms of features, and the only reason in favor of buying it is a purely unusual design.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Processing bioplastic into biosolvent 26.05.2020

A team of scientists from the University of Birmingham has developed a fast and efficient way to convert bioplastic into a biosolvent that can be used in a wide variety of industries, including cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Bioplastics made from polylactic acid (PLA) are becoming more common in products such as disposable cups, packaging materials and even children's toys. As a rule, once they reach the end of their useful life, they are thrown into a landfill or composted, while the biodegradation process takes several months.

Scientists have proven that a chemical process using a zinc-based catalyst can be used to break down real consumer plastics and produce a green solvent called methyl lactate.

The scientists tested this method on three separate products - a disposable cup, some XNUMXD printer waste, and a children's toy. A cup has been found to be most easily converted to methyl lactate at lower temperatures, but even the bulkier plastic in a child's toy can be converted to a biosolvent, just at higher temperatures.

The chemical process was tested on 300 ml of this solution. The next stages of experimentation will include scaling up the production of the biosolvent so that it can be used in industrial settings.
