MOTOROLA V100

Phone, I will call it that way (or just v100), because it cannot be considered a full-fledged communicator - so, the phone looks like a book; The body is made of transparent plastic, through which you can see the stuffing of the phone, or its electronic giblets. The hulls come in three colors: Ocean Jaxx (a blue is bluegreen), Klub Blue and Explosive Sonic - all colors are catchy, especially the last one, which I would call acidic. The antenna of the device, oddly enough, is external and is located on the outer surface of the case; holding it, it is very convenient to open the phone.

On the side surface of the case, on the left, there is a connector for a telephone headset, which is supplied in the kit and has the same color as the phone case. On the right is the connector for connecting the charger.

In continuation of the conversation about the case, we need to mention the battery compartment, which is covered by a special lid with a latch. Under the standard 650 mAh lithium-ion battery is the SIM card holder. The design is visible in the photo and does not need additional explanations.

Battery life according to the manufacturer varies widely and ranges from 40 to 125 hours in standby mode and from 2 to 2.3 hours in talk mode. With the number of calls up to 15 minutes a day and without turning off at night, the phone can work up to 4 days, sometimes more. A full charge of the battery takes about an hour and a half, which is quite acceptable.

The dimensions of the v100 inspire respect: 92 x 72 x 25 mm and weighs 130 grams. The phone is perceived as heavy, but thanks to the thoughtful shape, it fits comfortably in the pocket of both jeans and jackets (not shirts). The headset can be attached to clothing using a special plastic crocodile clip, which holds tight enough and does not fall off. This device can also be worn on the belt: the kit includes a comfortable leather holster that opens access to the keys on the outer surface, with the help of which incoming calls are rejected or received, voice dialing is activated.

Opening the phone, we see the keypad, because of which this device is called a communicator. The keys with the designations of Latin letters are small, round. It seemed to me that the keys are too small and strongly recessed into the case - they are inconvenient to press. There are no separate numeric keys on the keyboard, they are combined with alphabetic ones, which seems very inconvenient at first. There are separate keys for activating the voice recorder, calling up the menu, calling up the quick menu, locking the keyboard, calling up the message editor, etc. In general, working with the keyboard is difficult, a similar device for Ericsson T10s with comparable dimensions is much more convenient.

Phone features

As already mentioned, this model has a very large graphic display with a green backlight. The screen is made according to standard technology and differs from those installed on other models of phones from this company only in size and resolution of 126x64 pixels. When writing an SMS message, up to 6 lines of text are placed on the display, and this is in addition to the line of icons and the bottom line with labels for the function keys. Information on the screen is easy to read, the font size is convenient.

The standby screen displays the battery indicator (3 bars), the signal indicator (5 bars), and the carrier name and clock. In addition to the clock, the phone has an alarm clock that can be configured for 5 events, and for each you can enter a text note up to 40 characters. It is possible to set alarms for daily, once, weekly operation, and also view their list. Opportunity to work from Monday to Friday and from Monday to Saturday inclusive.

There is a very convenient voice recorder function that allows you not only to record parts of a conversation on the phone, but also to create voice reminders, for each of which you can set an alarm. A total of up to 3 minutes of audio can be recorded. At the same time, comments can be deleted not only all together, but also individually selected.

The menu and other features of the v100 are completely identical to those of the v50. There are no innovations or changes. The only drawback I noticed, or rather an inconvenience, was that in the absence of the Caller ID function in the list of missed calls, the records did not have a time and date stamp. Thus, the list simply did not fill up.

I will briefly describe the main characteristics common to both phones:

  • WAP 1.1
  • SMS
  • predictive typing iTAP (similar to T9 from Motorola)
  • voice dialing up to 25 numbers
  • voice commands (up to 9)
  • shortcut menu
  • vibrating alert
  • 11 tones and melodies of a call, possibility of record of the melody
  • two talk timers, minute and arbitrary
  • hours, schedule
  • up to 5 alarms that can be set to sound once on a certain day and time, as well as daily or weekly. It is also possible to set a specific day of the week every week or from Monday to Friday (to Saturday)
  • phone book memory for 100 numbers in addition to the SIM card memory
  • 3 games
  • list of last 10 dialed, 10 made and 10 missed calls with date and time.

All functions work as expected, no questions (for me, at least) did not arise.

Impressions

Insufficient ringtone volume and a small selection of melodies do their dirty work: the phone is not always well audible. True, this applies only to very noisy places, in a normal situation, the call signal, set to the maximum, is heard very well. The vibrating alert of this model is not the strongest: even if you carry the phone in a holster, the vibration is barely felt, only the beep saves.

Talking with a headset is quite convenient, the microphone is located on the wire a little lower than the earpiece, and the interlocutor clearly hears all the words. There were no failures of this kind when using the phone, subjectively the quality of the connection is very good. Sensitivity is similar to the latest devices from Motorola, in particular, it is quite comparable with the similar characteristic of the v50 model.

Of course, you should not expect stereo sound from a telephone headset, but it provides, nevertheless, a clear sound of the interlocutor's voice, which is already good. In a word, in terms of the quality of communication, this is quite a worthy device.

The almost one-touch voice dialing capability for up to 25 numbers makes the phone extremely easy to use. If the desired number is not among these 25, then you will have to get the device and climb through the menu. Voice functions are implemented at a very high level, and recognition works even in conditions of high noise levels.

The shortcomings of the phone include the inconvenience of using the keyboard, which turns it into a conventional device with a not quite familiar shape. It seems to me that this phone is quite specific, and you need to be a big fan of this design in order to get v100. In other words, this is an ordinary device, and, in my opinion, it makes no sense to purchase it, since it is impossible to use it for its intended purpose without a headset, and no new functions associated with the presence of a keyboard appeared in v100. In particular, working with e-mail seems to be something for granted for this model, but in reality there is only sending e-mail messages via SMS. This device is a kind of hybrid keyboard with a regular cell phone from Motorola, which does not have any new features and capabilities.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Jurassic crickets singing bass 22.02.2012

An international team of researchers say they have recreated the song of a cricket that lived 165 million years ago. This is the most ancient night song of the Earth, under which dinosaurs fell asleep in the parks of the Jurassic period.

It all started with the fact that Chinese paleontologists managed to find a fossil cricket that lived in the era of dinosaurs and is surprisingly well preserved. The cricket was named Archaboilus musicus, because on the wings of an ancient insect, a microscopic "musical instrument" remained intact and intact - comb-like structures that chirp when the wing is rubbed against the wing.

Upon hearing about the cricket, British insect expert Fernando Montealegre Zapata of the University of Bristol approached the authors of the find and asked permission to investigate it. Together with his Bristol colleague Daniel Robert, who, like himself, specializes in the biomechanics of song and hearing of insects, they studied the “combs” on the wings of a fossil cricket under a microscope, compared them with similar “tools” on the wings of 59 species of modern crickets and recreated a serenade , with which the ancient insect delighted the hearing of sleeping dinosaurs and at the same time called for a girlfriend.

The serenade is a pure note with a frequency of 6400 hertz. Each sound of her lasted 16 milliseconds. It was similar to the songs of modern crickets, but in a lower tone. We can say that the crickets of the dinosaur era were more bass. Their chirping could be heard from several tens of meters away - apparently, the "Jurassic" cricket needed to shout over the sounds of the night forest - the sound of waterfalls, the sounds of other insects, the chorus of frogs, etc. Such late-night singing, says Dr. Zapata, was a very risky business for the performer.

Feathered predators, like the same Archeopteryx, did not threaten the cricket, they hunted during the day, bats that love the cricket diet appeared on Earth a hundred million years later, however, small mammals of those times - such as morganukodon, an animal similar to a small rat - could well go to the sound of the song.
