MOTOROLA T260. Mobile phone review Review The phone fits comfortably in the hand, which is primarily due to its not the smallest size (130 x 47 x 24 mm) and weight of 108 grams. The length of the device is optimal, the speaker is against the ear, while the microphone is as close as possible to the mouth. It is very convenient to use the volume keys, the smart key and the voice recorder key on the right side located on the left side of the phone: they are moderately tight - you can feel the pressing, and no extra effort is required. On the left side, at the very top, there is a connector for connecting a telephone headset. It should be noted that the antenna of the T260 is external, fixed. Near the antenna there is an IR port window, and, finally, on the top, closer to the front side of the phone, there is a green service indicator flashing when working in the network. The silvery keyboard is made of rubber. The number keys are slightly easier to press than the menu keys, scroll keys, and others. The on/off button is recessed into the case. The back cover covers the battery compartment, which also contains a SIM holder that securely fixes the SIM card. The battery in this model is lithium-ion with a capacity of 500 mAh. Don't let the relatively small battery capacity fool you: it can work up to 140 hours in standby mode and up to 4 hours in talk mode (according to the manufacturer). In the tested phone, the battery in one case worked for three days with a small number of calls (about 10 minutes a day) and in the second case - about two days with a fairly heavy load (about 30 - 40 minutes of calls per day). A charger is supplied with the device, which charges a completely discharged battery in about an hour. The three divisions of the battery charge indicator displayed on the screen are clearly not enough, but if you wish, you can get more detailed information about the battery status - a very convenient feature that most modern phones from other manufacturers lack. Display, menu The device is turned on using a separate key at the bottom of the keyboard. When turned on, the Motorola logo appears and quickly disappears. In standby mode, the display shows the indicator of signal strength (5 divisions), battery charge (3 divisions), the name of the mobile operator, and the clock. The bell icon you see in the photo indicates that the sound signals on the phone are turned on. The screen is holographic with a resolution of 96 x 32 pixels, while it contains 5 lines of text, a line of service icons at the top and a signature for the OK soft key at the bottom. The display contrast is adjustable. The light green backlight makes it comfortable to work at night. The menu in this device is the same as in other models from Motorola. Some people like it, some don't. Although the menu of the T260 differs from the menus of other manufacturers, in my opinion, you can quickly get used to its organization. You can navigate through the menu items using the navigation keys or the * and # keys. To go up a level, press the C key. There are no numeric sequences to access a particular menu item - so you have to scroll through it to the desired item, and given that all phone settings are combined into one item, this is not very convenient. You can, however, create up to 9 shortcuts to menu items, which will allow you to access them in just two clicks. In addition, you can also record voice tags that will activate these items. Nine shortcuts are enough for the eyes to access the most used functions. Communication quality, sensitivity The evaluation of the sensitivity of the device is the most subjective parameter of any review. The connection quality of the Motorola Timeport T260 does not cause any complaints: the sound is clear, the interlocutor is heard well, the words are distinguishable even in street noise. True, the volume of the speaker, although I had it at the maximum, was not always enough. Ringtones and other features As is typical for Motorola phones, the set of tones and melodies is extremely scarce - only 11. Of these, one can be manually configured by the user and even sent via SMS to another device. Depressing meager number of melodies, limiting the choice. Typing a melody on the keyboard is quite difficult, and in a crowded place, grabbing the phone after hearing a familiar call is not always convenient. The vibrating alert saves: it is quite powerful and feels great even in the pocket of a down jacket. Another useful feature is the voice recorder (maximum recording time is 3 minutes). You can record multiple voice memos during a call as well as in standby mode. The disadvantages include the impossibility of deleting a single entry. Calling the voice recorder and starting recording is carried out using the key on the right side of the phone. The phone memory can store up to 100 entries (in addition to the SIM card memory). For 25 numbers, voice tags can be recorded. This feature works well even in noisy environments. It is possible to edit and delete individual voice tags. You can set up to 9 shortcut numbers in the phone book. The phone remembers the last ten received and missed calls, as well as the last ten calls. In this case, only the phone number is recorded without specifying the date and time of the call. The last dialed numbers can be accessed by pressing the OK key in Idle mode. When writing SMS messages, you can use iTAP predictive text input (English only). You can also write a message only in English; however, there is no support for the Russian language here, as well as in the phone book. WAP browser version 1.1 works correctly, the setup also does not cause problems. This model supports GPRS, but in our country it will be irrelevant in the next year and a half. Сonclusion The phone is made very soundly; battery life is quite acceptable. T260 operates in three bands, which is an undoubted advantage when traveling in the US and using roaming. The large size of the phone requires the use of a holster or case. The device functions properly, however, it cannot boast of a wide variety of services provided. Phones of this class from other manufacturers offer more service for the same money. In conclusion, I can say that the T260 performs its main purpose, namely the provision of communication, perfectly, but at the same time it does not even provide for such a common function as an alarm clock.
