MOTOROLA T191

The dimensions of the device are small - only 120 x 42 x 18 mm and weighs 98 grams. Initially, it was supposed to have a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 550 mAh, but in order to reduce the cost of the model, it was decided to equip it with a nickel-metal hydride battery of the same capacity. According to the manufacturer, the device's operating time is up to 80 hours in standby mode, and up to 1.5 hours in talk mode. As usual, these indicators in harsh Russian conditions turn out to be far from reality: the operating time in Moscow is about 2 days with 3-5 minutes of calls per day. Full charge time is about 2.5 hours. Exclusively for the Asian market, the model will be supplied with a lithium-ion battery, which is also part of the back of the phone; at the same time, the backlash of the battery, if any, is very small, and its hypothetical presence should not affect the operation of the device. The design of the SIM card holder is ordinary.

Pleasant to the touch keys are made of plastic and have a green backlight that is clearly visible both in the light and in the dark. Numeric keys are small in themselves and are also located close to each other, which is not very convenient: when dialing a number, the finger, of course, does not press adjacent keys, but it does touch. The phone is controlled using two soft keys, as well as a two-position navigation key.

Graphic display T191 has a resolution of 98x64 pixels, which allows it to display up to 4 lines of text of 16 characters. The green LED light is quite bright. In standby mode, the screen displays signal and battery levels (4 divisions), date and time, information about the operator and icons for soft keys - a phone book and quick access to the wap-browser. Using the central key below the screen, you can access the menu.

The organization of the menu is very simple: there are two rows of icons in front of you (8 in total), when you select one of them, a signature appears on the screen. Each item and sub-item of the menu corresponds to a number; quick navigation is provided using digital sequences. Unfortunately, the items are not numbered, so at first you will have to memorize the sequences yourself. In addition, it is possible to configure up to 9 shortcuts.

The first menu item is Phonebook. Up to 100 numbers are stored in the phone's memory, the same number - in the SIM-card memory; one name corresponds to one phone number. You can type names both in Russian and in English; but predictive input will only be available with the new firmware version. In the phone book, the length of the name should not exceed 15 letters (the phone's memory), the length of the number should not exceed 20 digits. It is possible to assign a voice tag to the number (10 in total) - then, by rejecting the navigation key, it will be possible to activate voice dialing. In addition, any number can be associated with one of 5 groups of subscribers, for each of which a personal icon is configured that is displayed when a call comes in, the ringtone and its type (melody; ringtone + vibro; vibro, then ringtone; disabled altogether), and also a warning about a new SMS message. In total, there are 27 call signals and a place for 5 user-created melodies. The T191 has such a function as copying one or all entries from the phone book in the phone's memory to the SIM card or vice versa. Previously, this function was not available in Motorola devices. Naturally, the two types of memory are separated, and you cannot work with them at the same time.

The same Phonebook menu contains lists of the last 10 received, missed and made calls with the time and date of the call. What is interesting and convenient - when the keypad is locked, a missed call can be viewed without removing the lock (after viewing, it will automatically turn on). Manual blocking is turned on by long pressing the # key, and turned off by the right soft key and then by pressing the * key.

The Messages menu allows you to write and read SMS messages. The phone has 20 non-editable templates and 5 empty slots for your templates. There is such a function as SMS Chat, which is no wonder, since the phone supports the EMS standard, which allows you to send and receive icons, graphics and melodies. With T191, by default, you can send one of 25 preset animated icons. By the way, the phone supports connected messages up to 765 characters long (in English).

One of the interesting features of the device is the auto-on/off function that can be configured for both single and continuous operation at a certain time. A nice feature of the phone is a cute screen saver, which is an animated picture in which a crocodile catches a spider. There is also the option to install up to 5 additional screen savers.

I won't dwell on wap-browser settings (version 1.1): they are simple and understandable.

The alarm clock, which works even when the phone is turned off, can be set to sound once or every day. Unfortunately, the only preset alarm sound cannot be changed. The function of automatic time control (the phone compares the set time with the time in the operator's network) can be very useful when traveling. The device has an hourly beeper that reminds of itself - I'm not sure if anyone might need this function, but suddenly ... A simple stopwatch and a regular calculator are provided.

In the Organizer (Calendar menu) you can view the dates for the month, as well as enter small notes (19 characters) for a specific date. Sound warnings are set for reminders - everything is very simple and uninteresting.

The last thing I haven’t talked about yet is about 6 games: Snake, Tetris, Numbers (fifteen variant), Bricks (arkanoid), Five stones (tic-tac-toe) and Box World (logical game with a lot of levels). I really liked the last game: it is unusual and makes you break your head; the rest of the games are standard.

Impressions

The communication quality of the T191 is acceptable, the sound is a little muffled, but it would be strange to expect something different from the initial phone. It seemed to me that in terms of sensitivity the novelty from Motorola is comparable to such devices as Alcatel 301, Panasonic GD35 or the same Motorola m3788. Unfortunately, the vibrating alert is quite average, while the ring tone is clearly distinguishable. The functions of this phone are very diverse, some of them you will not find even in more expensive and advanced models. In general, the device turned out to be very balanced; a large number of games, opportunities for creativity (5 own melodies and the same number of screen savers). It is these features that attract users who buy phones in this price category.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Fasten your seat belts, backseat passengers 15.07.2002

After studying one hundred thousand car accidents, the Japanese scientist Macao Ichikawa came to the conclusion that passengers in the rear seats should definitely wear seat belts.

In a head-on collision, the front passenger and driver are six times less likely to die if the rear passengers are buckled up. If not, inertia throws them forward. At a speed of 50 kilometers per hour and with an average Japanese weight of 70 kilograms, the push can be fatal for those sitting in front.

Now seat belts are mandatory in only 14 countries around the world.
