LG 7005

The LG200 is the youngest of the cell phone line from LG. The appearance of a new player in our market did not go unnoticed - this brand immediately found fans. The 200th model is a phone with dimensions of 106x44.7x19.7 mm and a weight of 89 grams. Not every entry-level device can boast of such small dimensions. The phone is available in three colors (Blue, Pearl White, Dark Silver), I liked the blue body more. Around the display is a silver matte insert; the screen displays a maximum of 4 lines of 16 characters each. The resolution is very good - 128x64 pixels, but the font is too small. Green backlight provides the ability to fully work with the phone at night. The display contrast is set in the Display menu item. In general, the size of the LG200 display is very similar to the Nokia 8210.

The Russian font used in the phone's menu deserves special mention. Some letters are larger than their neighbors, for example, the letter "b" in the word "messages" is higher than any other, although it is in the middle. In the word "protection" the letter "u" is smaller than the other letters. And I give examples only from the main menu, and the deeper, the more "typos", let's say, more. A few words should be said about Russification: of course, it is not bad, but made without a soul. Some menu items are translated very inaccurately, and in order to understand their true meaning, at first you have to make a lot of mental effort, then, of course, you get used to it.

Here is the most striking example. The phone software provides 6 profiles (Audio profiles menu): Standard, Silent, External, Car, Meeting and Specific. Selecting one of them, you will see a submenu with two items - Activate and Apply. In Russian, these concepts are equivalent or at least close in meaning. By experience, we find out that the Apply item hides the profile settings: the ability to set the sound for pressing the keys (enable or disable), select the type of call, its volume, configure other sound alerts, and finally enable or disable the vibrating alert.

So, having set up a standard profile and set the vibrating alert to work mode, I decided to check whether the melody would be selected correctly. But the phone refused to play the melody - it only vibrated. It should be noted that the vibrating alert in the LG200 is not bad - it is felt even through outerwear. But I didn’t manage to get the vibrating alert and the regular call to work at the same time, and the very short instruction didn’t help me either. By the way, you can disable or enable the vibrating alert by long pressing the * key.

Keyboard LG200 is made of transparent plastic and is very pleasant to the touch. When typing, it rattles a little, drowning out the sound that accompanies pressing a key. There is a dedicated key for accessing the phone book, a rocker key for navigating through the menu. From the keyboard, you can quickly turn on the lock and just as quickly unlock the keys. Using the keyboard is not that uncomfortable, but not very comfortable - let's just say, everything is at an average level.

The menu is worth a closer look. You can get into it from the standby mode by pressing the rocker. The main menu consists of 9 items, each of which corresponds to a nice picture (sorry, not animated) and a number. As you may have guessed, using number sequences, you can quickly get to the desired menu or submenu. Knowing that the phone provides for the possibility of correlating certain items with keys, I tried to find this function - on a whim, I couldn’t do it, I had to go into the instructions. It turns out that it is hidden in the Advanced menu, in total you can specify values for 9 items. I immediately chose different profiles for keys 2, 3 and 4. Everything worked without problems: in standby mode, it was enough to press and hold the corresponding key.

If we talk about other functions - not everything is so smooth with them. In particular, the Recent calls menu stores the last 20 missed, received and made calls with the time and date. The problem is that if you get a call from the same phone 20 times within a couple of minutes, then this number will fill the entire list. The same for outgoing calls: if the called number is busy, it will be added to the list again when redialling. By the way, redialing is a separate song. For example, you called a friend, and his phone is busy; you do not want to use auto redial (that's 10 attempts with an interval of 10 seconds). So, what are the options: dial the number again, select it from the address book, or use redial. Of course, the last way is the fastest, but not always, as it turns out. In LG200, pressing the call key displays the list of recent calls; if you want to dial a number, you need to press the call key again - but this time nothing happens: a menu appears with the items Calls and Save in Phonebook. To start a call, you have to press this key again - the system of repeated calls in this device was not thought out.

Speed dialing is sometimes more convenient. So, each number in the phone memory (40 numbers in total) or SIM-card is assigned a personal digital designation, for example #11. Here's what the manual says about speed dialing (on page 19): "You can speed dial a number from the phone book, which is directly accessed using the (#) key." The writing is not very clear, but a few minutes of thought lead to a discovery: for speed dialing, you need to enter "11" and then "#", and not vice versa - then a number appears on the screen that you can call. Of course, phones from other manufacturers often have this function implemented in exactly the same way, but this is unknown to a beginner. The instruction is too concise, it's just a line with a brief description of the phone's menus, however, how to use them is not indicated in most cases, there are also no examples.

By the way, we haven't finished talking about the phone book yet. The dedicated key for accessing the book calls up a menu with two items - Search and Search in tel. As you might guess, the first item is the search for an entry in the SIM card memory. Having found the phone or just viewing the entry, you can edit it (assign a number, for example #11, unless, of course, the cell is busy), delete the number, and also assign a group for the subscriber (there are 5 of them: Family, Friend, Colleague, VIP, Rejected). For each group, you can set your own type of call from 23 tones and signals presented in the phone, in addition, you can create your own melody. When a subscriber who is assigned to one or another group calls, the group name is displayed on the screen and the selected melody is played. It is also possible to set a group identification icon in the phonebook, this is done in the Phonebook menu as follows: Tel. Group and then in any group of the submenu Set. Photo. However, no matter how much you select and click, the icon next to the name in the phone book will still not appear. Perhaps this is due to my curvature, but how to understand the fact that segmentation into groups is not provided for at all in the phone book of the device, why then such a heterogeneous memory is needed in the phone ?! In any case, there is a separation between the memory of the phone and the SIM card; it is impossible to view numbers from two types of memory at the same time. It remains to note in the end that when entering a new number and saving it, an automatic transition to a new empty cell occurs, and if it is accidentally saved, it will be displayed in the list with an empty # field and an empty name.

Go to the Messages menu. Everything is very simple here: the phone does not have its own memory for SMS messages, but there are 5 categories of templates in Russian. You can enter new SMS only in English. Apparently, the translation of the templates was made from Korean: some phrases sound very funny. Here, for example, how do you like it: "Accept my special favor to you." Or the following phrases from the Love section: "Loving you is very right", "I will love you in the next future life." The most annoying thing is that some of the templates are not finished, and you will have to finish them yourself, and in English. There are about 10 templates in each category. Now the most interesting thing: default templates are correctly accepted only on LG phones, Nokia devices with support for receiving Russian messages write: "Message display is impossible", the same with Siemens phones. The non-proliferation of LG phones turns templates into a rather useless feature - if they were, at least in English ...

The phone, in addition to the date and clock (analogue clock in standby mode), has two alarm clocks; for each of them, you can set a short text label. Alarm clocks only work when the phone is on. There is also a function of "world time": the time in various cities is displayed against the background of the map (the list, however, is small - Moscow is not included in it).

By selecting a day, you can set a note for it, a small text and set the alarm time, if desired, the type of reminder is also configured. You can create up to 9 notes in total.

In the Extras menu you will find a traditionally inconvenient calculator, as well as seven games. The first is a logical Chinese game, not very interesting, in my opinion, the second is Number, a variant of tags with 19 bones. The Memory game is more fun: you are shown bones with different pictures, then they are covered, and you need to choose pairs with the same pictures - then they are removed. Pipe is another logic game in which you need to stretch a pipe from point A to point B using equipment of different configurations. Brick is an arkanoid, I dare say, quite trivial. The snake is a beloved snake: the toy is well drawn, but it's hard to play: the keys are uncomfortable. Magic brick is nothing but tetris; eyes get tired of the toy quickly: everything is very small.

This is where the description of LG200 functionality should end: it can't do anything else. It remains to say that the phone uses a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery, which lasts for 3-4 days of standby time (up to 5 minutes of calls per day). With a large number of calls (up to 20 minutes a day), the device will work no more than two days. The battery charging time is about 1.5 hours.

Brief Summary

The connection quality of the LG200 is quite good, the sound is surprisingly pleasant and clear. Somewhat spoil the impression of interference in the speaker (it hisses, but quietly), audible in quiet rooms. The sensitivity of the device is average, but nothing else can be expected from an entry-level phone. The capabilities of this device are very small, and those functions that are, implemented very badly.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

LiO2 can replace Li-Ion 02.02.2016

Despite technological progress in the smartphone industry, users of many models complain about insufficient battery life. The task of creating a high-capacity battery with compact dimensions is urgent, and the best minds in research laboratories are trying to create the battery of the future.

Scientists from the Argonne National Laboratory (USA), the University of Utah (USA), the University of Louisville (USA), the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA), Hanyang University (South Korea) have created a prototype of the so-called "lithium-oxygen" battery. This novelty uses lithium oxide (LiO2) and has five times the capacity of modern lithium-ion batteries (according to the source). Interestingly, attempts have already been made to create a battery of this type, but they have remained at the project stage, since lithium oxide is difficult to synthesize in pure form. The researchers were able to establish that crystalline LiO2 can be stabilized through the use of graphene cathodes.

The results of the study showed that the LiO2 in the battery can remain stable even when the battery is continuously charged and discharged at a relatively low voltage of 3,2 V. According to the inventors, their discovery is an important step towards creating a new type of high-capacity battery.
