ERICSSON T10S. Mobile phone review Review Many people like Ericsson phones, but many people say that they are unattractive. By and large, this is purely a matter of taste, but the performance characteristics of one of the most popular phones from Ericsson can be considered in more detail. Of course, you already guessed that we are talking about T10s with firmware from T18s, which adds the ability to voice dial 20 numbers. This modernization was made possible due to the identity of the iron parts of both models. At a relatively low price, the T10s had voice dialing, which its direct competitors in its class, for example, the Motorola cd930 phones, did not have. We will not position this phone here, but will talk about how it works. Finally, I would like to note that the T10 with firmware from model 18 is sold not only in small companies, but even by some networks of communication stores, although warranty service is provided only by the companies that sold the phone. Most of these devices come to our market from an Estonian factory. Design and functionality Each person has his own idea of taste and beauty, and therefore we will not evaluate the attractiveness of this phone. Let me just say that it is quite weighty - 146 grams, and its dimensions 105x49x24 mm allow you to carry it in a shirt pocket. But another question is that carrying a phone in a shirt is not very convenient because of its weight; it’s better in jeans or in a jacket pocket. The T10's external antenna is fixed and can be easily unscrewed if necessary, unlike the Siemens C25. The phone has a keyboard cover that covers the keys when closed. The big drawback is that the lid is inactive, i.e. opening the lid when calling does not lead to anything. The presence of an active cover would immediately increase the value of this device for many. On the back of the phone there is a hole for attaching the clip that comes with the phone. To install it, just remove the rubber plug and screw the clip in with a screwdriver. I must say right away that the clip is inconvenient due to its small size. It is not possible to carry the phone on a belt, as it constantly tends to fly off, and I dropped the device this way several times. To the credit of the phone, we must note its durability; after falls, no deterioration in performance was noticed. Next to the clip mount, on the left there is a slider with which the SIM card is ejected (with the battery removed, of course). The battery itself is also the back wall of the phone. The battery snaps into the socket quite tightly and no play is observed. Despite this, problems periodically arise with power supply to the phone, since the contacts between the battery and the phone itself are poorly aligned. The conference constantly discusses the issue of stripping contacts and how to bend them. Moreover, the problem is inherent in the vast majority of T10 phones. The Ni-MH battery itself has a capacity of 750 mAh. Standby time is up to 100 hours, and talk time is up to 4 hours. Actual use of the phone shows that it lasts for two full days, and when used for the third, the battery may suddenly die and then it will be very disappointing. The SIM card holder is made in the form of a slot in the case, where you need to insert the card until it stops. The picture taped to the case under the holder shows the correct orientation of the card. The disadvantage of such a holder is that if you accidentally touch the slider to eject the card, the phone will stop working and say “Insert card”, and you may not even know about it. To be fair, it should be noted that this situation arose only a couple of times over the course of several months. And most importantly, this model is available in several body colors. Initially, these colors were cornflower blue, turquoise, dazzling pink, violet blues and grape yellow. Now T10 is also available in graphite color. We call by phone When you turn on the phone, an inscription with the name of the cellular operator appears on the display, as well as a clock, a signal strength indicator (6 bars) and a battery charge indicator (4 bars). The display of this model is graphic and can display up to 3 lines of information. The bottom line also displays icons informing about a particular event. The backlight of the display is green and is quite enough to illuminate the screen in the dark. In my opinion, the display size is clearly not enough for comfortable work with SMS messages. Pressing the bottom side key shows the current date for a while, and then the clock is displayed again. The top key in standby mode activates voice dialing. For this feature to work properly, you need to add voice tags to your phonebook entries. When recording a new number, you will be asked if you need a voice tag for this number, and if you answer by pressing Yes, it will be recorded and played back to you. In the phone book menu you can view a list of voice tags and listen to them. But adding a voice tag to an existing recording is a truly confusing process. You can’t just write down a tag; you must enter edit mode, find the record by number in memory or by the subscriber’s name, and after you click Yes a couple of times, you will be prompted to enter a tag. At the same time, voice dialing itself is implemented very well and works even in noisy places. In total, it is possible to assign voice tags to 10 numbers from the phone book. The phone book in the phone's memory can store up to 100 numbers. When recording a new number, you indicate the name and number and then the phone number is recorded. In the future, you can access the number through “Search by name” or “Search by number”. The last function is to search by the number of the cell in which the number is stored. The memory of the phone itself and the SIM card are separate, and you can copy entries between these two types of memory. When viewing numbers, an icon is displayed on the screen indicating in which memory the number is stored. Please remember that if you save voice tags in the SIM card memory and then remove it from the device, you will have to enter them again. The phone's memory stores the last 30 numbers you called or called you. Moreover, if the caller ID function is enabled and the number is present in the phone book, then the name of the subscriber is displayed on the screen, and not just his number. For each number in the call list, the date and time of the call are indicated, and the icon shows what type of call it was (incoming, outgoing, missed). The phone's keyboard is made of plastic; the keys are small, oval-shaped, but pressed elastically and easily. The distance between the keys, in my opinion, is ideal and working with them will not be difficult. Now comes the fun part. The sound quality of this device is not bad, although there are occasional extraneous noises and echoes. You can attribute their appearance to the congestion of the cellular network, but it seems to me that the main problem is the very average sensitivity of the device. Of course, this is a subjective opinion and Ericsson T10s has greater sensitivity than, for example, Nokia 3210, but, nevertheless, it is not enough. In some buildings or places where reception is difficult, the phone falls into the mode of emergency calls only, and when you go out into the open with it, it is in no hurry to switch to normal operation. It’s easier to turn off and turn on the phone again, but you don’t constantly look at whether your device is working or not, and neither do I. Many simply cannot get through to such a device with the inscription on the screen “Only 112”. Accordingly, you cannot call anywhere. Within the city, the quality of communication did not raise any complaints, and the sensitivity in open spaces is very good. The Sound of Music and Other Joys T10 allows you to select a ringing signal from 4 tones and 7 melodies. You have the opportunity to create your own melodies with a total of no more than two. Entering a melody is not difficult. But those tunes that are available, unfortunately, do not cause delight. (listen in this file, mp3, 233 KB). The vibration alert on your phone is very powerful and you can feel it even if the phone is in the side pocket of your bag and you are walking somewhere. The phone has a built-in calculator. He is completely ordinary and worthy only of mention. There is an alarm clock that can be set for a specific time. The squeaks are disgusting, so you have to get up willy-nilly. The alarm clock also works when the device is turned off. In the "Access" menu, you can set various restrictions on calls from your phone, for example, you can block outgoing international calls. There are many settings and they are very flexible, convenient if you are going to give the phone to your friend or child to use. It is impossible to carry a phone with its original clip (it is possible, but inconvenient), but there are branded cases of various colors to match the phone body. They make it very convenient to carry your phone on your belt and this case looks very nice. And finally, the most interesting thing. You can connect a keyboard to this device and you will have the opportunity not only to edit your phone book, but also to comfortably write SMS messages. Indeed, a very convenient thing, and at a low cost (about 10 dollars) it justifies itself. Results This model is a typical urban device. Sensitivity is average, but many people don’t need more. There are certain shortcomings in the design of the case and the battery mounting, but they are not fatal, although they are very annoying when actively using the phone. Having a keyboard for your phone is a huge plus for people who actively use SMS messages to communicate with others. With free incoming and outgoing SMS messages, this keyboard turns the phone into a full-fledged means of written communication, and also very inexpensive.
