For a modest family evening, the guests brought a beautiful box of sweets from the "Volshebnitsa" confectionery factory. The hostess liked the truffles in it, and I was interested in the packaging itself: it seemed very unusual. It was not easy to open it without disturbing the appearance, because there were no usual folds, valves or traces of gluing. A careful examination helped to understand only that the box was somehow folded from one sheet.

And the casket opened quite simply: it turned out that it was only necessary to pull the ring handle down into the slot under it - and the package (for some reason, it reminded in its appearance of a hat with earflaps when its "ears" were raised and tied at the top) as if by magic swung open .

I realized that, using the original design of this package, you yourself, when you are going to visit in the same way, can make such a beautiful box of any required size for your gift in a few minutes. And without any glue and ribbon ties, using almost only scissors.

Express Packing
Collapsible packaging made of paper: A - "casket" in finished form; B - blank before assembly

The material can be any thick paper sheet of large size. for example, a printed poster or whatman paper. The contour of the package is transferred to it using a scale grid (and in the future, with practice, it will be possible to cut out this figure by eye). It is convenient to cut holes in the ring handles on the main part of the figure, as well as slots in the side petals with nail scissors. At the same time, it is important that the dimensions of the slots and the base of the handles are the same - then connecting them into a single unit will be reliable.

Express Packing
Packaging pattern on a scale grid

After the figure is cut out, all four "wings" of it are bent in turn to the same "antipode" - the opposite element. As a result of this, a square or rectangular area is formed in the center for placing a gift. Wings with handles converge over it with their tops, as if hugging an object placed on the platform. On the rings of the handles tightly pressed to each other, the side lobes of the figure, which are raised in turn, are placed with their slots. At the same time, the edges of the slots go under the bases of the handles, catching on them: a kind of lock is formed that securely holds all four wings together in the assembly - the package is ready for the road.

Express Packing
Patterns of parts for "dry" assembly and gluing of packaging: 1 - "upper" part, with slots; 2 - "lower", main part (with handles)

If a poster was used to make the box, its drawing and font will "automatically" serve as an outdoor decoration. And you can decorate paper packaging yourself using acrylic paints, gouache or just felt-tip pens and markers. Those who are not confident in their artistic abilities can resort to applications by sticking suitable pictures specially cut out of illustrated (especially glossy) magazines or exhibition brochures on the sides of the package (better, of course, before assembling the box).

By the way, there will be no problems with decorating the finished package either, if the remnants of beautiful wallpaper are chosen as the material for its manufacture. In this case, it is not necessary to have a segment of a large area; trimmings in the form of strips are also suitable. Then you can use the options for the patterns shown in Figure 3. The blanks are cut out separately, and then bent, each, as described above, and superimposed in the middle one on top of the other so that a platform is formed. Moreover, the bottom should be the one with handles, and on it - the one with slots. For strength and greater rigidity of the resulting packaging area, its halves can be glued together. After laying the gift, the wings of the figure rise above it and "close", as in the first version.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The bandage will take care of the wound on its own 04.01.2016

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a new type of bandage with electronics and drugs inside that can monitor and care for a wound without human assistance.

The durable bandage is made of hydrogel, it is flexible enough and does not restrict movement, even if you are on your knee or elbow. It also has innovative sensors that monitor skin temperature and automatically release anti-infection medicine.

The hydrogel is 90% water and is designed to mimic the properties of human skin. The gel creates a strong bond with materials such as titanium, aluminum, silicon, ceramic, gold and other substances commonly used in electronic components. Titanium wires running through the gel make the bandage conductive, allowing it to be embedded with electronic devices such as semiconductor chips. It also has LEDs installed, they light up when the temperature in the wound reaches a certain limit or the medicine runs out. Reservoirs for medicines are created in gel and delivered to the wound through special channels.

The next step for the bandage is to remotely alert the doctor if the wound needs urgent expert care. The lead researcher and creator of the new bandage, Zuanghe Zhao, hopes to create flexible, organic smart gel-like electronics that can be implanted directly into the body or even into the brain. A hydrogel internal device can serve, for example, as a glucose level sensor, and similar materials can also become the basis for creating neuroshunts.

“The brain is a bowl of jelly,” says Zhao. “Right now, researchers are testing different soft materials to achieve long-term biocompatibility of neurodevices. We offer a more durable hydrogel as an ideal material for neurotechnology, since it can be created with the same mechanical and physiological properties like the brain."
