When the bedroom is spacious, it is possible to install the bed in the most convenient way - with the head end against the wall. This is especially important for a double bed: approaches to the bed are saved from two sides, and on each side you can put a bedside table with a lamp, rationally arrange a bedside box for bedding.

If there is a free corner with a small wall at the head of the bed, then use the design proposed by the Hungarian magazine Ezermeshter, and it will seem to you that the room has become larger, more spacious.

And all this thanks to the built-in corner wall cabinet behind the bed, which combines the functions of several pieces of furniture at once. Its top panel is, in essence, a long open shelf, which will accommodate a night light or a lamp, an alarm clock, a transistor. photographs and other decorative things that give comfort.

The panel below is another no less capacious shelf, which will also take on a lot of necessary (to be at hand) items, books read for the coming dream.

The cabinet containers can be used in a variety of ways. The corner cabinet-wall is also convenient in that it can serve as an addition to an existing bed, the design of which will need to be modified accordingly.

As for a homemade bed, for its manufacture it is best to use commercially available spring mattresses, to the plank frames of which you only need to attach the simplest legs from a wooden block (this has been repeatedly described in our magazine).

Given that during the day the bed can serve as a sofa, it is advisable to sheathe the mattress with a suitable upholstery fabric for upholstered furniture. At the same time, the visible side and end parts should be covered with decorative panels sheathed with the same fabric.

It is more expedient to make the cabinet-wall itself not as a single structure, but consisting, for example, of three independent blocks: the head (end) and two side ones. Attached to each other, they form an angular wall.

Sleeping corner
Corner set of a wall cabinet and a bed (A head block; B, C - side blocks): 1 - bedside table door; 2 - front wall, fixed; 3 - piano loop; 4 - sidewall; 5 - back wall; 6 - cabinet cover; 7 - shelf-lid of the bedside table; 8-door of the side block, sliding; 9 - bed (spring mattress); 10 - leg; 11 - bed panel, decorative; 12 - foam rubber strip; 13 - furniture fabric.

The blocks are manufactured according to a single scheme, although in the design of each of them there may be some differences depending on the intended functions. We will consider the simplest option, when one of the side sections with sliding doors, and the second and head ones act as bedside tables. Bedding is placed in one of them in the morning - and the bed becomes a kind of sofa, and in the other in the evening, on the contrary, accessories of the sofa are placed: soft armrests, foam rubber pillows, and a blanket.

The material for such a corner cabinet will be chipboard or furniture veneered panels, all the main horizontal and vertical panels, shelves and doors of the structure are prepared from them.

Consider the manufacture of the head section. Its box consists of two vertical panels - sidewalls and two horizontal - top and bottom. For a more durable connection of the joined panels, round plug-in spikes (dowels) and screws are used. If the structure is not supposed to ever be disassembled, then the joints are reinforced with glue (carpentry, casein, PVA).

Under the lid, a shelf is built into the same connection elements, which, in turn, plays the role of a lid for the niche of the bedside table. To do this, two more vertical panels are built into the frame from the side of the bed: a fixed lower one as high as the bed and an upper one attached to it with a piano hinge - the bedside table door.

To keep the closed door securely, magnetic latches are provided. And to make it convenient to open, the necessary cutouts are made for the hands in the front edge of the bedside table roof.

Wall cabinet head unit

The last structural element of the head unit (and the rest too) is the back wall of hardboard sheet, which is nailed to the frame with small nails, giving it additional rigidity and strength.

It should be noted that the head unit in the corner does not reach the side wall of the room, but only the front edge of the vertical panel of the side unit, so that the bedside table door opens. And only the cover of the head unit reaches the wall - it is 250 mm longer than the bottom. This eliminates the gap at the corner junction of the blocks.

It has already been noted that the side blocks are best assembled as separate structures. Such a general solution is more expedient, it allows, if necessary (for example, when repairing, when updating wallpaper), it is easy to move the cabinet.

If the cabinet blocks are made of furniture panels, then only the sawn edges of the panels will require additional finishing: they are glued with special strips of plastic or veneer on PVA glue, followed by heating with an iron. And panels made of chipboard can be stained and varnished. The wall cabinet will look just as good if it is painted with light-colored enamels.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Hydrogen train from CRRC and Chengdu Rail Transit 01.02.2023

The world's largest rail vehicle manufacturer has released a zero-emission train that uses a combination of hydrogen fuel and a supercapacitor as a power source.

The train consists of 4 cars, has a range of 600 km and can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, making it the fastest hydrogen rail vehicle in operation today.

The development belongs to the state-owned industrial enterprise CRRC and Chengdu Rail Transit. The train operates 5G, as well as automatic start, stop and return to depot modes.

Hydrogen is considered a clean energy source because water vapor is the only by-product that is released when it is burned. It does not produce harmful substances, pollutants or greenhouse gases. In addition, hydrogen can be produced from a variety of sources, including renewable resources such as wind, solar and hydropower, further increasing its potential as a clean energy option.

Germany leads the way in the production of such vehicles, with 14 Alstom hydrogen-powered trains already operating there. The CRRC car is faster than the German trains by about 20 km/h, but those in turn offer a greater range - up to 1000 km.

In 2019, the United Kingdom launched its first HydroFLEX hydrogen train, a modified version of the Class 319 electric train.

Previously, Japan and Korea were the most active countries pushing for hydrogen as a "green" transportation solution. However, recent data shows that it is China that is taking the lead in the actual deployment of hydrogen filling stations. There are only about 1000 hydrogen stations in the world, and about a third of them are located in China.

This could be a telling move: the country that controls the vast majority of the lithium battery supply chain is also slowly switching to hydrogen. Considering that declining lithium resources could cause a price spike and stop the electric revolution that is currently accelerating, it would be wise to prepare hydrogen alternatives in advance.

China is setting a bold goal to stimulate the growth of the hydrogen energy sector. According to the plan published by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration (NEA), by 2025 there will be about 50 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the country, and between 000 and 100 tons of hydrogen will be produced annually from renewable energy sources. .
