Why didn't Kubrick respond to a letter of admiration from Kurosawa?

Stanley Kubrick was noted for his meticulous directing and always demanded to shoot a large number of takes of one scene. His assistant, Anthony Frewin, spoke about Kubrick receiving a letter of admiration from Akira Kurosawa in the late 1990s. Kubrick himself was a great admirer and follower of the Japanese, so he thought for a very long time about the correct answer, writing down many drafts. And when the letter was finally ready, the news came that Kurosawa had died.

Do animals see colors?

Everywhere we look, the world seems so colorful and beautiful to us, and it's hard to imagine that someone sees it in a completely different way. But how can a person determine whether animals see colors if they cannot tell about it?

Scientists have conducted many experiments to answer this question. Bees have been the subject of hundreds of such tests because it would be interesting to know how a bee finds a flower, if not by color. The following experiment was carried out: a little syrup was poured on a blue card, and a red one was left empty. Released bees flew blue. Then everyone did the opposite: they poured syrup on the red one, but not on the blue one. But the bees still flew to the blue one. So it was proved that they distinguish colors.

Two strange features of the perception of flowers by bees were soon discovered. First, they do not distinguish red. They see it as dark gray or black. Secondly, they perceive ultraviolet rays as color, although for a person it is only darkness!

Male birds are often brightly colored. Does the female perceive these colors? In experiments conducted with chickens, it has been proven that they see all the colors of the rainbow! But here's what's amazing: a man's friend - a dog - does not distinguish colors. For a long time it was believed that the dog is as perfect in perceiving colors as in distinguishing smells, sounds, sizes, and so on. But true dog lovers were not very disappointed after this discovery, as the flair completely compensates for this shortcoming. By the way, cats also do not distinguish colors.

Monkeys have a very good sense of color, but most other mammals, including the bull, do not see colors!

The reason for this phenomenon is that most of these animals hunt at night, when they do not need to distinguish colors at all, moreover: they themselves most often have a dull color, so this ability is of little importance in their life.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Raven is not inferior to primacy in mental abilities 30.12.2020

Biologists from the Institute for Cognitive Sciences at the University of Osnabrück have found that the mental abilities of ravens are not inferior to great apes. Birds can communicate with each other and are able to learn.

German scientists led by Simone Pick compared the intelligence level of ravens with great apes using a series of tests for primates. Eight crows raised at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology were selected for the study. Their ages were four, eight, 12 and 16 months.

During the study, the biologists analyzed spatial memory, understanding of object permanence, understanding of relative quantities, numbers, and addition, as well as the birds' ability to communicate with other crows and learn from the human experimenter. The results obtained were compared with those obtained in two species of great apes ? 106 chimpanzees and 32 orangutans.

The researchers concluded that the intelligence of birds is formed by the age of four months. The researchers also found that, with the exception of spatial memory, the cognitive abilities of four-month-old ravens are very similar to those of adult great apes.

The test results confirm the general assessment of the high intelligence of ravens.
