What monster was inspired by the scars of the survivors of the nuclear bombing?

The Japanese-invented monster Godzilla has woken up and gained power from testing a hydrogen bomb. To emphasize Godzilla's connection with nuclear weapons, the designers took keloid scars from the survivors of the bombing of Hiroshima as a model for drawing his skin.

What is the difference between unireme and bireme and trireme?

The first warships of the ancient Greeks were relatively light ships, no more than 35 meters long. Depending on the number of rows of oars, at first they built unirems and two-tiered biremes. On a 12-15-meter unireme, there were usually 25 rowing oars on each side. The vessel was also equipped with a ten-meter ram. It was these ships that the Greeks used during the siege of Troy.

The development of the navy did not stand still. In the end, the triremes (the Greeks called them triremes) became the main ships of most Mediterranean fleets. The ships got this name for three tiers of oars. The total number of oars on such a ship could reach 170, and the crew now consisted of 200 people, where, in addition to warriors and slave rowers, there were also sailors to control the sails.

Triremes reached a length of 40 meters. Some of them even had several masts. The ship had a solid combat deck, a conning tower for the commander and an impressive three-meter underwater ram. Sometimes a metal beam was installed above the ram, which broke the enemy's oars. Historians believe that the first triremes were built in Corinth.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Aliens pollute the universe 13.02.2010

It is generally believed that civilizations existing in space can impersonate "radio noise" in the VHF band. But the history of the development of terrestrial technology has shown that the era of free radio emission in all directions is relatively short: only half a century has passed since the beginning of the widespread use of television, and television signals mainly began to propagate either via cables or through satellites that radiate strictly to the Earth.

American astronomers propose to look in space for traces of synthetic compounds produced only by a fairly advanced civilization. They can be found by infrared radiation. For example, a particularly sensitive infrared telescope is able to detect Freon-type compounds in the planet's atmosphere, even if their concentration is only one part per trillion.

Many other synthetic air pollutants also have a characteristic infrared spectrum.
