What are weather satellites used for?

These satellites are located in geostationary orbits, that is, they seem to hang above the surface of the Earth. Every 30 minutes, such a satellite sends to Earth a photograph of the cloudy layer of the atmosphere over a certain area of the surface.

The combination of such photographs gives a complete picture of weather conditions, the movement of cloud masses and cyclones and allows you to make more accurate weather forecasts.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Chromebook with invisible pixels 22.02.2013

Google has officially unveiled the Chromebook Pixel laptop based on the Google Chrome OS cloud operating system. The Chromebook Pixel "combines the best hardware, software and design," according to a Google blog post. The company explained that the goal of creating the computer was to provide the simplest, fastest and most secure system for accessing email, sharing documents and Google+ Hangouts web chats. The company also believes that the new model will serve as a template from which future Chromebook makers Samsung, Acer, Lenovo and HP will build.

The Chromebook Pixel features a 13-inch 3:2 aspect ratio panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels and a resolution of 239 ppi, thanks to which the "pixel disappears from the screen", that is, it is so small that the human eye cannot recognize it. Apple is using the same idea with the Retina displays found on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and MacBook Pro. The resolution of the display in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, for comparison, is 227 ppi. The standard pixel density in laptops today is 118 ppi.

In addition, the display on the Chromebook Pixel is touch-sensitive. "The touch screen makes it easier and more intuitive to organize tabs in the browser, navigate between apps, and edit photos (including using the Pinch-to-zoom gesture)," Google explained. Special attention was paid to the design of the laptop. The case is made of anodized aluminum, has an active cooling system with hidden holes and invisible screws, the keyboard is backlit, and the stereo speakers are hidden under the keys. The trackpad is made of glass, the webcam (720p) is complemented by three microphones to suppress ambient noise.

Chromebook Pixel features a 2GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 1,8, 4000GB DDR4 RAM, 3GB SSD, Wi-Fi 32 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 802.11, two USB 3.0 ports, a Mini DisplayPort interface and an SD/MMC card reader. The battery provides up to 2.0 hours of operation.

Google has started selling the Chromebook Pixel on its Google Play online store in the US and UK for $1299. In April, the company plans to release in the United States a modification with an integrated LTE modem and a 64 GB SSD for $1449. All Chromebook Pixel customers will be able to get 1 TB of free Google Drive cloud storage for 3 years.
