How did a crocodile cause a plane crash?

In 2010, a Czech-made Let L-410 crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, killing 20 people. The only survivor told the cause of the disaster: one of the passengers decided to carry a crocodile in a large bag, which got out of it shortly after takeoff. All passengers, along with the stewardess, rushed in a panic towards the cockpit, causing the plane to lose balance and crash to the ground. The culprit of the accident, the crocodile managed to survive.

What do fish eat?

If you've ever been on a fishing trip, you must be convinced of anything but what you offer them as bait. City boys often fish with bread on a hook. Village boys use worms for this. Trout fishermen take flies for this purpose. And some fish are tempted by the sight of another fish on the hook. Since there are thousands of species of fish, it is impossible to describe everything they eat. But the struggle for existence under water is so intense that the fish are accustomed to not being too picky about food.

Some fish are vegetarians and do not eat any living creatures, but most of them are predators, that is, they eat other fish or marine animals and insects. It is curious that many fish are happy to eat small crustaceans or shell animals. Although fish are very different, they still have a few things in common. For example, most often fish have an elongated, pointed shape that allows them to move quickly in the water.

Most fish use their tail as propulsion and control their movement with both their tail and fins. They breathe with gills, through which water constantly passes from the mouth.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Wooden dollars 12.12.2007

Recently, at the request of the mayor of New York, a census of trees was held in this city. It turned out that there were almost 600 thousand of them in the city.

The total value of the services they provide to the city is estimated at $122 million. Trees earn 11 million by filtering out air pollution, 28 million by shading houses in the summer and reducing the need for air conditioning. Another 36 million trees save the city by absorbing some of the rainwater and thereby reducing the load on the sewer, and 47 million is estimated at the "aesthetic" value of green spaces that adorn the city.

The total value of U.S. urban tree plantations by the same method is estimated at $14,3 billion. Some of the green spaces adorning US cities are purely temporary. So, for the summer in Chicago, bananas are planted on lawns in the city center, and in the fall they are removed to the greenhouse.
