Since when has our solar system existed?

It is believed that 5 billion years ago, as a result of compression of a gas and dust cloud, the Sun and planets were formed. If we imagine this time as one day, 24 hours, then humanity on Earth exists for only 1/50 of a second.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Steering wheel with grip sensor for robotic vehicles 25.10.2017

Toyoda Gosei announced a new type of grip sensor steering wheel for use in vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The novelty was developed jointly with specialists from Toyota Motor Corporation. It is noted that modern cars are equipped with autopilot tools that can support movement on highways, carry out automatic acceleration and braking. But the driver must keep his hands on the steering wheel in order to quickly take control if necessary.

The created capture sensor determines with high accuracy whether the motorist is holding the "steering wheel" or has completely removed his hands from it. Based on these readings, a warning signal may be given or the machine may be forced to stop.

The sensor array is integrated with the steering wheel heating element. It is claimed that such a solution is applied for the first time in the industry - previously these components existed independently of each other. The integration made it possible to reduce the total mass of the rudder structure, as well as to get rid of the negative effect of the grip sensor on the heating intensity.

The new type of steering wheel will be the first to receive the flagship Lexus LS sedan. Then, probably, the solution will find application in other cars.
