Did you know?

Are locusts dangerous?

Locusts are very dangerous in the gregarious phase. Kuligi - an accumulation of locust larvae - move in thousands of masses on the surface of the earth, destroying crops, forests and plantings. Adult insects (imagoes) are capable of long-distance flights.

A swarm of locusts that flew over the Red Sea in 1899 numbered 500 billion insects and weighed a million tons. Having descended to the ground, such a cloud destroys all life - both animals and plants.

What do we not see in the sky?

"Black holes". They absorb light. Such a hole in the Magellanic Cloud, with a diameter of only 6 km, has the mass of ten of our Suns! There are also supermassive "black holes" a couple of kilometers in size and a hundred solar masses.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

SSD 7,68 TB from Kingston Technology 26.05.2020

Kingston Digital has announced the availability of the 500TB DC450R and DC7,68R SSDs. These SATA SSDs are designed for data centers. In June of this year, the DC1000M U.2 form factor drive that supports NVMe will be added to them. In all cases, 3D TLC NAND flash memory is used.

The DC500R benefits from VMware Ready certification, which confirms that this SSD supports virtualization and is well suited to work in environments with a large number of read operations, including web servers, virtual desktop infrastructure, operational databases and real-time analytics systems. The drive demonstrates sequential read and write speeds up to 545 and 490 MB / s, respectively. Performance on random access operations in blocks of 4 KB reaches 99 IOPS in read mode and 000 IOPS in write mode. The resource is equal to 25 TBW or 000 full overwrites per day during the warranty period.

The description of the DC450R notes a "special feature set" for read-heavy applications. This model is designed for content delivery networks, edge computing systems, and a wide range of software-defined storage architectures. The drive demonstrates sequential read and write speeds up to 560 and 504 MB / s, respectively. Performance on random access operations in 4 KB blocks reaches 99 IOPS in read mode and 000 IOPS in write mode. The resource is equal to 19 TBW or 000 full overwrites per day during the warranty period.

As for the DC1000M, this drive is hot swappable and fully compatible with today's servers and storage that support U.2 drives. It comes with enterprise-grade features including end-to-end path redundancy, power failure protection, and telemetry monitoring. The sequential read speed reaches 3100 MB / s, write - 2800 MB / s. Performance on random access operations in 4 KB blocks reaches 485 IOPS in read mode and 000 IOPS in write mode. The resource is declared equal to 210 TBW or 000 complete overwrite per day during the warranty period.

The DC500R, DC450R, and DC1000M drives come with a five-year warranty.
