The French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who was entrusted with the creation of the statue, needed the help of an engineer, because the statue was very large. And this engineer was Gustave Eiffel - the future creator of the Eiffel Tower. He designed a steel support and a frame that holds the statue's skin (it is hollow inside).

The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Paris World's Fair. It was supposed to stand for only 20 years, but remains one of the sights of Paris right up to the present day. The tower was built in record time - 2 years, 2 months and 5 days.
