Did you know?

Was Jesus really born in a stable?

No.

At least not in the New Testament. The theory that Jesus was born in a barn is an assumption that arose from a single phrase from the Gospel of Luke: "The baby was lying in the cattle trough."

Likewise, no authoritative biblical source mentions the presence of animals at Christmas time. Of course, we are all very familiar with the scene in the manger that we see in churches and schools every Christmas Eve, but in fact, 1000 years have passed since the birth of Jesus before this "biblical" image was invented.

It is believed that the first person to set up a Christmas manger was Saint Francis of Assisi. On Christmas Eve 1223, in a cave on the hills above Greccio (Italy), he placed an armful of hay on a flat stone (which can still be seen today), placed a baby on top and added carved figures of an ox and a donkey (but without Joseph, Mary, wise men, shepherds, angels and lobsters).

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Who invented scuba gear?

People have always been curious about what is happening under water, in the underwater world, and tried to get there. But how to get a supply of air to breathe underwater? It was quite difficult. Two problems had to be solved: the difficulty of moving in water and the problem of constant pressure changes in the underwater world. Diving with a supply of air could only be done by very trained people, dressed in complex bulky, deep-sea suits with helmets that were under air pressure.

In 1943, Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan invented the scuba gear. He allowed to discover the secrets of the underwater world. With this equipment, the diver could stay underwater for a long time. The supply of air, compressed under pressure, is contained in cylinders that are mounted on the back of the swimmer.

Breathing in an underwater swimmer is as natural as on the surface. The regulator mounted on the cylinder supplies air at the same pressure as at the depth at which the scuba diver is. There is a valve for this. The only thing a diver has to do to get oxygen is to take a breath. Scuba will give him a portion of air under the necessary pressure, depending on how deep he is. After the invention of scuba diving, scuba diving has spread widely throughout the world.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Complimentary Telly TV with additional advertising screen 21.05.2023

The American startup Telly has introduced a TV available free of charge to users, but with one feature - the constant presence of advertising banners.

The new TV consists of a main 55" Theater display with 4K resolution and an additional display called Smart Display. Smart Display constantly displays widgets with news, weather, stocks and, most importantly, advertising banners.

Advertising on the Smart Display does not interrupt the playback of content on the main display. However, if the main display remains inactive, the TV will automatically turn on to show ads. In addition, users are invited to participate in surveys, for which they can receive gift cards from companies such as Netflix, Starbucks and others.

Telly's privacy policy mentions that the company may collect information about the audio and video content viewed, search queries, and "the physical presence of you and any other person using the TV at any given time."

The user has the right to refuse the collection of data, but in this case he undertakes to return the TV. If this does not happen, the company will write off $500 from the bank card specified at the conclusion of the contract. The TV is controlled by the Telly OS operating system with a voice assistant function, 40 games and support for music services.

There is a camera in the soundbar that separates both screens. It is useful for video calls and fitness applications with motion tracking. Telly claims that the camera can be closed with a built-in shutter. Deliveries of 500 free TVs will begin this summer.
