When did the schools start?

Since prehistoric times, man has passed on his experience to the youth. If this did not happen, the children could not survive. They did not know which animal was dangerous, which plants could be eaten, how to maintain a fire to keep warm. Over the centuries, man learned to write down what he knew. Thus, he could preserve knowledge and pass it on to children and grandchildren.

With the invention of writing, schools appeared. The first schools we know of were those of Mesopotamia and Egypt. They are three or four thousand years old. Thus, schools appeared to pass on knowledge to the younger generation and prepare them for life. But the society was arranged in such a way in ancient times that schools and a good education were not available to all youth. In Egypt, for example, very good education was given to those young people who were going to become priests, government officials or doctors. But there were very few of them.

Another ancient people, the Jews, had a deep tradition in education. Previously, before the loss of independence, the father of the family himself taught his children the history of his people, its laws, religion. Later, the Jews were conquered and they feared that traditions and faith might be lost. They formed schools where both the rich and the poor - all together - were taught the language, religion and history of the Jewish people. For the first time in the history of mankind, the same education was given to both the poor and the rich.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Electronic tablet instead of textbooks and notebooks 29.08.2002

The Taiwan Computer Association (TCA) has created a group to promote the spread of electronic school bags in the country - computers that should combine school textbooks, notebooks, diaries and everything else a student needs to study.

Many experts, not only in Taiwan, predict that these devices will gradually replace traditional printed books. Their advantages are not so much in their low weight (a 10-inch tablet PC weighs only a little more than 1 kg), but also in the fact that switching to them will create a new, with incomparably greater opportunities, learning environment.

In addition to the fact that several dozen textbooks with pictures can be "stored" in such a computer, teachers can centrally check the work done on them and distribute materials and homework or, using electronic boards, transmit their lectures.

"Electronic backpacks" are created on the basis of tablet computers equipped with wireless communication. One of the tasks being solved now is to increase the duration of work, since students will have to use backpacks throughout the school day.
