How to deal with diphtheria?

Diphtheria is a serious disease caused by a bacterium. The disease begins a few days after the bacterium has entered the body. Diphtheria bacteria usually enter the body through the mouth and nose and infect primarily the throat. Usually, the throat becomes inflamed, there is a temperature and a feeling of malaise. Gray or whitish films appear on the tonsils and at the back of the throat. The infection can spread to the larynx and block the air supply here.

Diphtheria has a serious effect on other parts of the body. The reason for this is toxins, or poisons, released by the body. Serious harm can be done to the heart and nervous system. Children between the ages of two and five are most susceptible to diphtheria.

The cause of diphtheria is a small, rod-shaped bacillus. This bacillus was discovered in 1883. Once this microorganism was found to produce a toxin that causes disease, the next step was to make an antitoxin that could neutralize that toxin. This was done by a man named Emil von Behring in 1890. The antitoxin helps to avoid the serious poisoning effects of this disease, although the infection still remains. Diphtheria is much less common these days because it can be partially prevented.

You can make the toxin harmless. When a person is injected with this harmless toxin (called a toxoid), antibodies appear in the body, which protect the body from bacteria. The degree of immunity to diphtheria that a child may have is determined using a test developed by Bela Schick in 1913. A small amount of diphtheria toxin is injected into the skin.

If a child does not have enough antitoxin in his body, then a red spot appears on his body after four to seven days. Thus, children who might get sick can be treated to protect them from the bacterium.

How is Batman related to the English idiom about stupid people?

In England, there is the village of Gotham, famous for the idiom "Wise Men of Gotham", meaning simple and stupid people. According to legend, the inhabitants of Gotham, having learned about the plans of the king to settle nearby and having estimated their expenses for the maintenance of his court, decided to play fools in front of the royal ambassadors. To do this, the villagers indulged in stupid work, for example, drowning an eel in a pool of water or building a fence around a cuckoo sitting on a bush, and the king eventually chose another place for the house. New York's nickname Gotham came from a comparison in a satirical short story by Washington Irving. It was later chosen to be the name of the city where Batman lives.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Thecus N4810 NAS 05.08.2016

Thecus introduced the Thecus N4810 NAS, thereby expanding the range of NAS based on the Intel Braswell family of chips. The basis for the novelty was the Thecus N2810PRO model announced in June, from which the Intel Celeron N3160 SoC was borrowed.

This microcircuit received four cores with a frequency of 1,6-2,24 GHz, and the estimated heat dissipation is only 6 watts. The DDR3 RAM is 4 GB, but it can be upgraded up to 8 GB. Four 3,5" drive cages support up to 10TB drives each. The SATA interface is used, drives can be combined into an array of RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 with support for hot swap and spare. The entire array can be encrypted using the AES algorithm with a 256-bit key.

Two Gigabit Ethernet network ports support seven aggregation modes, doubling the throughput to 2 Gbps. In a home network, the presence of HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs along with an S / PDIF connector is useful. In addition to them, there are four USB 3.0 ports, an external 90 W power supply and an internal fan (92 mm), whose speed depends on temperature and the noise level does not exceed 25 dB.

ThecusOS 7.0 features data synchronization between two Thecus NAS, VPN remote access, personal cloud using mobile devices, and Kodi multimedia shell for 4K video playback.
