What is nutmeg?

Nutmeg is one of the most wonderful and widely known spices. It is a hard core - "bone" - a tropical fruit.

There are about 80 species of trees and shrubs, in the fruits of which nutmeg is hidden. They mainly grow in the Philippines, Moluccas and Brazil. The most popular and practical value among them is fragrant nutmeg - a beautiful evergreen tree, the height of the trunk of which reaches 7 meters. It has many branches - from the foot to the very top. Small yellow flowers bloom on them, the smell of which resembles the fragrance of lilies.

After 8 years from the moment of planting, the trees begin to bloom and bear fruit. This process of flowering and fruit ripening continues throughout the year without interruption, but the main crop is harvested every four months. In size and shape, the fruits of the nutmeg tree resemble a pear. When ripe, they acquire a golden color and open into two halves. They consist of red dense pulp, inside of which is a nut-like seed. These seeds contain that part of nutmeg that is used as a spice.

After the nuts are separated from the pulp, they are dried in special ovens until their shells crack. Then they are taken out of the oven, the shell is easily peeled off, and the nut becomes usable. In order not to reduce the valuable qualities of nuts, they are transported over long distances and stored as a whole, although they are added to various dishes only in a finely chopped state. From nuts of lower quality, unfit for human consumption, an extract called nutmeg is extracted.

Where did kefir come from?

Kefir comes from the Caucasus, and its sourdough has been inherited since ancient times. According to one version, only at the beginning of the 20th century did Russian dairy producers manage to lure out a few peas and start producing their own kefir. The main microflora of kefir fungus is a complex symbiosis of several microorganisms, and so far it has not been possible to repeat it artificially.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Maxim MAX30208 and MAXM86161 medical sensors 12.09.2019

Wearable medical and fitness devices often measure vital signs such as body temperature and heart rate. When designing miniature devices, developers are limited by such factors as the low capacity of the disk battery and the small dimensions of the body of the wearable device.

Maxim's two new medical sensors, the MAX30208 and MAXM86161, provide higher measurement accuracy and are ideal for continuous monitoring of vital signs such as body temperature, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2).

The MAX30208 Digital Temperature Sensor provides clinically accurate temperature measurement (±0,1°C) and is able to quickly respond to changes in temperature. The device also meets stringent power and size requirements for miniature devices such as smartwatches and medical patch-style sensors.

Compared to competing products, the instrument is very easy to use, allows multiple sensors to be connected to a single bus, can be mounted on a conventional or flexible printed circuit board (FPC), has low self-heating, and consumes only half the power under typical operating conditions.

The MAXM86161 Heart Rate and Pulse Oximetry Monitor is the smallest all-in-one solution on the market today providing highly accurate heart rate and SpO2 measurements for wearable applications. Designed for headphone applications, this unit offers the industry's best small form factor (40% smaller than the nearest competitor) as well as the best signal-to-noise ratio (100dB SNR).

The MAXM86161 effectively combats ambient light with industry-leading measurement accuracy. It consumes approximately 35% less power than competing products, effectively extending wearable battery life (less than 10uA@25sps). In addition, the device includes a complete analog interface (AFE), eliminating the need for external ICs or AFE optical modules.
