Where did the coconut originate? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? Where did the coconut originate? Coconut grows on a coconut tree. It is useful and well known to millions of people. But here's the strange thing about this tree: no one knows where it came from! At the dawn of history, this tree already grew in every tropical country and seemed to be a natural feature of the landscape. Scientists think that nuts in ancient times were carried by ocean currents and man from one tropical country to another. In this way, they spread throughout the world so long ago that we cannot trace their path. Where is their homeland anyway? A small mark, barely noticeable on the nut, is the place where the nut was attached to the tree. The coconut is an oblong fruit, reaching 30-45 cm in length and 15-20 cm in diameter. Before use, the coconut is cut into three pieces and allowed to dry. The white pulp is then taken out and dried further. Dried coconut kernel is called "copra" and has a heavy, suffocating smell. But it is used to make a very valuable coconut oil that has been eaten for thousands of years. Today, it is also used to make soaps, oil substitutes, cosmetics, and many other industrial products. Of course, coconut is also used in the confectionery industry. Did you know that people living in the tropics use all parts of the coconut tree in one way or another? The trunk and leaves decorate the dwelling. From unopened flowers, the inhabitants of East India and the southern seas extract the juice, which is called palm juice. It is drunk in its natural form or added as an additive to liquor. The middle of the flower is cooked like a vegetable. Coconut milk is a liquid that perfectly quenches thirst. Strong ropes are produced from a large number of fibers surrounding the nut. The nut shell is a valuable fertilizer. Furniture is made from the wood of the tree. From long leaves create a material suitable for weaving hats. You can see that the coconut palm is one of the most useful trees anywhere! Author: Likum A.
